Consumer Federation of Kenya Sues Stanbic Yetu Concert Organizers

The Consumer Federation of Kenya (Cofek) has filed a lawsuit against the organizers of the Stanbic Yetu concert featuring American boy band Boyz II Men. The lawsuit, which was filed under a certificate of urgency at the Milimani Law Courts, names Stanbic Bank Kenya, Radio Africa Events, and Homeboyz Entertainment Limited as the respondents.

Cofek is seeking compensation for consumers who were dissatisfied with the concert, which was marred by poor organization and technical problems. The lawsuit alleges that the organizers of the concert breached their contractual obligations to consumers by failing to provide a satisfactory event.

Justice Lawrence N. Mugambi has ordered that the respondents be served with the lawsuit within 14 days. He has also set a mention date of July 24, 2023, for the case.

The lawsuit is the latest in a series of legal challenges facing the organizers of the Stanbic Yetu concert. In May, a group of concertgoers filed a lawsuit against the organizers, alleging that they were misled about the quality of the event.

The Stanbic Yetu concert was held at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi on June 11, 2023. The concert was promoted as a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity to see Boyz II Men perform live in Kenya. However, many concertgoers were disappointed with the event, which was marred by long queues, poor sound quality, and technical problems.

The lawsuit filed by Cofek is a significant development in the saga surrounding the Stanbic Yetu concert.
