Bodyguard Robert Ouko imprisoned for the murder of Kelvin Omwenga.

For illegally possessing a gun that was used in a shooting in which city auto dealer Kelvin Omwenga was slain, a former bodyguard of businessman Chris Obure received a one-year prison sentence.

Robert Bodo Ouko, Obure’s bodyguard, was given a 12-month prison sentence without the possibility of a fine by Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi.

Ochoi found Ouko guilty on two counts of unlawfully possessing a firearm and ammunition for the purpose of committing murder.

Following his conviction, the prosecution, which was overseen by state attorney James Gachoka, requested that the magistrate consider the accused as a first-time offender.

Ouko begged for forgiveness, claiming that he is a family guy and the sole provider.

He regretted what had happened.

I observe that the accused is a first-time offender and is sincerely sorry. In light of this, I sentence him to one year in counts one and two. While passing judgment, Magistrate Ochoi ordered that the punishment will be served concurrently.

According to Ochoi’s ruling, the prosecution established the case brought against the unlicensed body guard beyond a reasonable doubt.

According to Ochoi, the prosecution proved successful in connecting Obure’s bodyguard Ouko to the Senteu Plaza crime scene, where Kevin Omwenga was killed on August 21, 2020, using the aforementioned pistol.

Eight witnesses were called by the prosecution to the stand as part of their case against the defendant.

“I conclude that the prosecution has built a prima facie case against Ouko after analyzing the available facts and the available evidence in this case. As a result, I find him guilty on every count,” Ochoi declared.

When finding him guilty, Ochoi said that the evidence presented in court demonstrated that on August 20 at Senteu Plaza, Ouko went to his boss Obure’s office and opened a drawer before taking the safe keys that contained the revolver.

The magistrate reported that “Ouko, who was not a holder of a firearm, picked the pistol from the safe and walked out with it.”
