Driver of matatu that killed teen after fare dispute speaks
On May 19, the driver of the Embassava Sacco bus that ran over and crushed a 17-year-old boy refuted reports that the youngster was ejected from the vehicle for not having Ksh20 in bus ticket.
The child was allegedly searching for his phone that had fallen outside the bus, according to the troubled driver. WHo went on to explain:
“I ferried people from Pipeline, heading to town. When we got to Quarry (Kware), the conductor signalled me to stop to allow passengers to alight.
“In the process of switching lanes, I felt like I had stepped on something like a stone. When I checked the side mirror, I saw it was a person.
Benson Njoroge, chairman of the Embassava Sacco, agreed with the driver but also expressed regret to the family.
