Starehe MP Charles ‘Jaguar’ released!

Two weeks after his arrest, Starehe Member of Parliament Charles Njagua Kanyi is now a free man.

This is after being taken into custody on Monday, June 29 for allegedly inciting youths to forcibly occupy stalls at Mwariro market in Nairobi.

An arrest her termed “unclear” but declared nothing was going to stop him from fighting for the rights of his constituents.

Well, Friday, July 10, the politician walked free after the courts dismissed charges leveled against him which it declared “unconstitutional”.

To this fact, the MP expressed:

Today is a great day for Starehe. My defense of Starehe’s traders continues. Trade is the principal economic activity in Starehe. We have to protect our traders from unfair foreign competition

Further reiterating his earlier statements that had drawn a rift between Kenya and Tanzania traders articulating:

The influx of traders from Tanzania and China at the expense of local business people is alarming. We have to think of Kenyans earning a living in Gikomba & other markets. Their interests ought to come first. We cannot allow foreigners to edge out our traders in our marketplaces.

The youthful parliamentarian coulf not understand how his constituency, Starehe, was hosting some of the largest markets in Kenya inclusive of Gikomba, Muthurwa and Kariokor and it’s very own locals were denied the freedom to earn a living from the markets. All because of foreign traders.

I have to defend my constituents. I am their MP.
