She noted:
Yes, we are exclusively breastfeeding.
This is the most asked question in my DM.
I appreciate all the concerns and I am aware of the mothers that are hesitant to breastfeed because they are HIV Positive.
Before explaining:
I breastfed all my two girls, and I am doing it with Kwe, because I have undetectable viral load. Meaning I cannot infect the child with HIV through breastfeeding because I have less than 20 copies of the virus in my system, which cannot be transferred.
Phenny Awiti also known as Mrs Spiefeld, revealed that she is basically HIV negative though the virus lives in her.
6-month exclusive
She went ahead to articulate that her breastfeeding is exclusively for 6 months after which she can now introduce mixed feeding to her baby boy.
Additionally, her breastfeeding is recommended for 2 years for as long as they both are on ARVs.
It is exclusive for six months. No water, no porridge, no nothing, only breast milk for the six months, then we introduce mixed feeding. (I will be breastfeeding for) up to two years as recommended by WHO for as long as I am on my ARVs and he is too, we are good to go????????????
The mother of 3 however noted that her son is on a syrup as well, to ensure he is at no risk of contracting the virus too.
My baby is also on ARVs syrup called Nevirapine, and septrin as well.
And her husband, Mr Spiefeld could only cheer on his wife for a job well done.
spielfeld.carsten Thank you so much my beloved wife for giving all the information to HIV positive pregnant women and encourage them to breastfeed. There is no risk for the baby to get infected by breastfeeding if the mother is HIV positive, as long as the mother is taking the HIV medicine regularly.
A fan was however quick to ask:
nthabaka I imagine there is still a chance, even a small chance that the virus might be passed. Unless the chances are zero, why would you take that chance even if it’s extremely small?
But Phenny calmly responded:
@nthabaka Easy! I am just choosing confidence and positivity in my journey. That’s how I am raising my two girls free from this virus. I do not feed my mind with anything other than what I share with you guys. I respect your opinion and reasoning as well????

Aaw nice. No baby should be denied the mother’s breast milk irrespective of her HIV status. Exclusive breastfeeding is the best option.
