5 arrested over the death of beauty who fell from 7th floor balcony
A college student, Catherine Njeri, died on Saturday, May 21, after allegedly falling from the 7th floor of an apartment in Gacharage, Ruaka.
Njeri had visited a friend for a party at the apartment when she allegedly fell from the balcony. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Five people, including the friend whose apartment Njeri was visiting, have been arrested and detained for 10 days to allow police to complete their investigations.
Kiambaa Deputy County Commissioner Peter Maina said the five, comprising three men and two women, were last seen with the deceased before the incident happened.
“At the time of the incident she was in the company of five people in that room and those are the people in custody now helping police with investigations,” Maina said.
According to the police report, Njeri left the house where they were holding the party at 9.30 in the company of her friend’s boyfriend and went to the rooftop where there is a pavilion.
The police are investigating whether Njeri fell from the balcony accidentally or if she was pushed.
Njeri’s death has shocked the community and has raised questions about the safety of women in Kenya.
In a statement, the National Police Service said it was committed to investigating the matter and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
“The National Police Service is committed to ensuring the safety of all Kenyans, especially women and children,” the statement said. “We will not tolerate any form of violence against women and we will ensure that the perpetrators of this crime are brought to justice.”
The death of Catherine Njeri is a reminder of the dangers that women face in Kenya. It is important for all Kenyans to be aware of these dangers and to take steps to protect themselves.
