Karua to square it off with Waiguru for gubernatorial post
Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua has declared she will vie for the Kirinyaga governor’s seat during the 2017 General elections.
Karua on Wednesday re-tweeted several endorsements for the gubernatorial seat.
She also appeared to revel in the huge online support urging her to compete with former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru.
Waiguru has already announced that she will be in the ballot seeking to become the first female governor.
Karua has in recent months been keeping many guessing on which political seat she will be gunning for in the upcoming elections.
Last month she had hinted at her supporters in Mombasa that she may vie for the presidency in 2017.
Karua came sixth during the 2013 presidential elections when she ran on a Narc-Kenya ticket.
Her entry into the race now brings to six the number of candidates who have expressed their wish to be the next Kirinyaga Governor.
She will face off with Waiguru, Kenya’s ambassador to the United States Njeru Githae, Kirinyaga Central MP Gachoki Gitari, and Businessman Bedan Kagai to unseat the incumbent Joseph Ndathi who has declared he will defend his seat on a Jubilee Party ticket.
Karua has in the recent past joined forces with Cord opposition leaders in criticising the government especially in the clamour of electoral reforms which eventually sent the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners packing.
However, Karua last week refuted claims that she had ditched her party and joined Cord and reaffirmed her allegiance to Narc-Kenya.
