Is This The End Of Rugby In Kenya? Safaricom Withdraws Its Multi-Million Sponsorship Deals

 

For some time now Kenyan rugby has been on the rise, just like athletics, putting Kenya among the top countries in the world in rugby competitions.

All this has been possible thanks to the dedication and proper structures that have enabled the spotting of talent from grassroots and tapping it for the benefit of the country.

Some of these proper measures include the multi-million sponsorship deals that Safaricom Kenya, the biggest telecommunication company in the region, has injected into the game.

However, the rugby sport in Kenya is now nose-diving after Safaricom withdrew its sponsorship.

The giant telecommunication company has said that it has continuously been frustrated by poor leadership in the rugby union.

This means that Safaricom Sevens and the Safaricom National Sevens Circuit have effectively died.
