Here is why Susan Mboya, Kidero’s wife, is more powerful than her husband

Not many people know Dr Susan Mboya, the wife to Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero.
However, the behind the scenes woman, is perhaps more powerful than her husband who controls the city of Nairobi.
 
Her leadership skills runs deep in her blood and is passed down from a powerful generation.
Dr Mboya is the daughter of Tom Mboya, the Kenyan nationalist leader, was a well-known Kenyan trade unionist, educationist, Pan Africanist, author and independence activist.
 
She boasts of an impressive CV and a wealth of experience  that not only makes her a powerful leader among her peers across the African continent, but also influential globally owing to her vast network and expertise.
Dr Mboya is currently the president of the Coca-Cola Africa Foundation (TCCAF) and group director for Women’s Economic Empowerment for Coca-Cola’s Eurasia Africa Group (EAG).
She leads the women’s economic empowerment programs and partnerships for the Eurasia and Africa markets under the 5by20 program, Coca-Cola’s global commitment to economically empower 5 million women by the year 2020.
 
As President of TCCAF, Mboya leads the Foundation’s initiatives in more than 50 countries across the continent.
She joined The Coca-Cola Company in September 2008 as the General Manager for Coca-Cola South Africa.
Previously, she worked in general management at Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Dr Mboya is also the chairman of Liberty Holdings, Kenya Limited and founder of the Zawadi Africa Educational Fund, a nonprofit organisation that has provided more than $60 million in scholarships for 350 young African women from marginalized backgrounds at 66 top colleges and universities in the United States, Canada and Africa.
She has also received worldwide recognition and won multiple global awards due to her work and experience.
In 2003, Mboya became the first African to be inducted into the American Advertising Federations (AAF) Hall of Achievement.
During the same year, she was awarded the Jack Averett Community Spirit Award by the AAF, and was named s Marketer of the Year in 2004.
 
In December 2010, Mboya was awarded the Elder of the Burning Spear (EBS), by the President of Kenya, in recognition of her dedication and service to the development of the country’s youth.
She has been awarded honorary doctorate degrees from Lakeland College and the University of Massachusetts in Boston for her work in empowering women and youth.
 
Dr Mboya holds a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in industrial pharmacy from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and a B.Sc. in pharmacy from the University of Connecticut in1990 and in 1995.
