Harambee Stars’ striker Michael Olunga now commands Kes 1 billion transfer fee after Victor Wanyama set history with Kes 1.6 billion

Kenyan players are shinning on the global stage; Michael Olunga and Victor Wanyama are now the most expensive footballers from Kenya.

In 2013, Victor Wanyama made history when he joined premier league side Southampton for Kes 1.6 billion from Celtic. His impressive form at Southampton saw Tottenham sign him for 1.4 billion in 2016.

And just like Wanyama, Michael Olunga’s value has also skyrocketed ever since he joined Swedish side Djurgardens from Gor Mahia for a transfer fee of Kes 16 million.

Olunga’s market worth is now fast approaching Kes 1 billion following his impressive form which saw him net 12 goals for his club last season.

Turkish giants Galatasary have tabled a Kes 550 million bid to sign Olunga from the Swedish club; the bid hasn’t been accepted yet.

Interests by other clubs could further push Olunga’s market value to Kes 1 billion; the Harambee Star’s striker has also attracted interests from Guishou Zhicheng FC (China), CSKA Moscow (Russia) and Tranzbonspor (Turkey).

Chinese clubs are known to known to spend hefty sum of money on players’ salaries to lure them from European clubs.
