Ghafla Poll: Do You Think It’s Time For The Government To Censor Radio?

There is a debate that has been raging in Kenya for over a minute with two very vociferous and almost antagonistic sides on either side. The debate of which I speak is whether or not Kenya should censor the radio. Proponents for censorship always bring up Maina and King’ang’i in the morning which the feel discusses subject matter that is too mature for it’s time slot -early in the morning.

For me all this means is that Maina Kageni has a hold on his audience -so much so that they always talk about him even when he isn’t around. That is one of the reasons why advertising on his show is so damn expensive!

After watching the debate that raged on NTV which I felt could have been better moderated, I have to ask what you as the Ghafla reader think. Is radio too much these days? Afterall, Maina and King’ang’i discuss things that pertain to marriage and sex at a time when children are going to school.
Or is this argument just hogwash? A business is a business and expecting profitability like the profitability shown by Maina and Kinga’ang’i in the morning (not to mention the popularity) is all that matters -besides, they are doing us a favour by discussing marital issues that most of us are facing anyway -and we’re too scared to ‘fess up?

Have your say below on whether you feel the relevant government bodies need to censor Kenyan radio:
