There’s Nothing Wrong With Playing Elderly Roles – Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin
There is currently an incessant use of young actors to play roles of the elderly in the Ghanaian movie indutry, especially in Kumawood.
A handful of veteran actors and film enthusiasts have expresses disappointement at this act by some producers.
But Kumawwod actor, Kwadwo Nkansah, aka Lilwin has asserted that there’s nothing wrong with a young actor playing the role of an elderly in movies.
The comis actor, who appears to have played such roles more than any other says it is an international practice and as such finds no fault with it.
“Even Jackie Chan is cast an old man” he said on Atinka TV’s Entertainment City, Saturday.
Lilwin further stated that, “once you play the role well, there is nothing wrong with that. The challenge is when you’re unable to interpret the role the best way you should.”
He told host, Oforiwa, that due to how keen he is about his profession, he has the finest makeup products which he gives to makeup artists on set.
“I bought them from US. It shows how serious I am. I won’t allow you make me up with substandard products or chalk. I don’t joke with my job” Kwadwo Nkansah said.
Meanwhile, critics of this practice have argued that older actors possess certain physiological traits necessary for the execution of the role.
Some have also argued that doing so is depriving the elderly actors the opportunity to act. This according to them is causing fluctuations in their career.
Hence, they see it inappropriate for a young actor to be given such roles when there are many old actors who can equally play them.
