Full-Time Acting Is Not Helpful – Yvonne Okoro

It’s obvious that talent alone cannot sustain one to the fullest these days.

Many musicians have already made this known and have ventured into other business avenues.

The situation in the music industry, seems not to be too far and different from that of the movies industry.

Almost the long-serving artistes and actors are now adding another source of income to that of their talent.

Actress cum producer, Yvonne Okoro seems to agree with the fact that, talent alone is no longer paying.

According to the actress, taking acting as full-time job is not advisable because the movie industry is gradually collapsing.

She told Abeiku Santana on the ‘Atuu’s Show’ aired on UTV, that currently the movie sector is faced with unsolved challenges for so long as compared to before.

“The movie industry now does not have enough producers and finance. It’s all because there’s no money in the industry lately. The actors and actresses have now turned into producers, which shouldn’t be so.”

She added that, it will not be advisable for up and coming actors and actresses to take film making as their full-time jobs.

“There should be something aside acting you can perfect at. Acting does not fetch money in Ghana right now. Compared to Nigeria where they have over 20 cinemas and a larger population as well, a good movie can sell in all cinemas and make huge sums of money, it is not so in Ghana. I’d advise these up and coming actors to go to school, get a constant paying job and maybe do acting for the passion of it.” She said.

Yvonne Okoro however revealed that, she has another source of income apart from acting and producing.

She explained that, she is a real estate developer, a job she learned from her father.

Aside that, she is also a law student at MountCrest University College

KOD, who doubles as a fashion designer, in a way confirmed the rumored engagement of actor John Dumelo prior to the wedding.

KOD

He posted a statement that suggested, men, preferred ‘homely’ women like John Dumelo’s wife, to those he described as ‘all over the place’.

He posted Dumelo’s love story, “Got me wondering why most men in the public eye settle for quiet/unknown women and not the ones all over. That could be a lesson for some of our sisters ooo. Men want women who can make a home and not be all over”.

His comments however, seemed to have not gone down well with some people including Yvonne Okoro.

Yvonne Okoro

She therefore decided to bounce back at him by responding to KOD’s post by writing;

She responded: “Kofi, @nineteen57bykod you could have congratulated the couple without needlessly denigrating other women. Who a man chooses to be with is a matter of personal preference and vice versa for women too. As you clearly believe that women should make all their life choices with marriage always being at the forefront of their minds, you should preach the same to men”.

Her comments may have suggested some bad blood between the personalities.

However Yvonne Okoro told Joy News’ Becky at John Dumelo’s engagement ceremony, everyone was entitled to their own opinion. According to her, there was no enmity between them.

The invitation, which came through social media (Twitter) is to prove which of the two music icons cooks the best Jollof.

However, they are yet to openly accept Yvonne Okoro’s invitation.

Yvonne’s invitation follows an earlier open challenge from rapper Sarkodie to Nigerian superstar Davido on Twitter. to put him and Davido in a kitchen in a bid to end the long jollof ‘war’ between their respective countries.

Flashback

It all started with a tweet from South African rapper Cassper Nyovest. Nyovest, whiles in Ghana hinted that he couldn’t tell which of these two countries’ Nigeria and Ghana’s jollof he loves best.

“Don’t know if I love Ghanaian or Nigerian jollof rice more…. what’s your preference?” he asked his followers on Twitter.

Davido replied his tweet by saying, “Looooool na we get the sauce oo”, literally meaning Nigerians cook the best jollof.

Cassper responded to Davido by adding, “Hahaha… Had some lit jollof at Davido’s house actually. Called him the next day like WHA??? @iam_Davido,” he tweeted.

But Sarkodie, who was definitely not amused, replied the tweets by saying, “Forget bro … you had no choice … You need options … hit me up I can even make you the best jollof cook via voice note.”

“No need for this bro just put me and Davido in the kitchen,” he added.

However, the Davido ran from kitchen challenge and rather called for a music challenge in the studio.

“Forget this one let’s do gbedu Competiton… make studio turn kitchen lmao,” he said in a tweet.

Back to the present;

But interestingly, Yvonne Okoro, who is a Ghanaian actress of Nigerian descent has waded into the ‘Jollof War’. waded into the argument with her open invitation to the two musicians to come on her cooking show to settle their difference.

“Helloooo….Come to my kitchen…What do you say???Let’s see who WINS @sarkodie @davidoofficial #diningwithcooks&braggarts,” she said on Instagram and Twitter.

As was to be expected, her invitation has attracted scores of comments from fans of both artistes. Many are calling on the two musicians to honor the invitation. But both artistes are yet to respond to Yvonne Okoro’s invitation though.

The ‘Jollof war’ between Ghanaians and Nigerians has always been an epic fun fight. It has revolved into many diverse means of challenges over the years and it doesn’t appear to end anytime soon.

We sure can’t wait to see these two great acts battling it in the kitchen. Perhaps, the winner will finally draw the curtains on the Ghana Vrs Nigeria Jollof War.
