Renowned sound engineer and producer, Appiah Dankwah, aka Appietus has called on all members of the Musician Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) to be blistering and have their names recorded in the voters list before 2019.

The multiple award winning producer added that Obour’s administration has put out new strategy ahead of voting. This strategy, according to him will limit many members to vote for a new MUSIGA President in 2020.

According to Appietus, during Obour’s second term election, only 150 were allowed to cast their votes thereby  disenfranchising many members.

After this, he raised a concern which was duly addressed. But this time members who are unable to register before 2019 lose the opportunity to take part in the voting processes in 2020.

He further pleaded with all members of MUSIGA to take the registration of voters exercise seriously from now till 2019.

Appietus said voting has now open to all members. But the new restriction to all members is that if any member refuses to register now loses the chance to vote when the time is due.

Appietus’ Speech

“Currently Obour is using another law to limit members who wants to vote. If any member of MUSIGA wishes to vote in 2020, he or she should register now. And those members who fail to register now will not be allowed to register in 2019 hence can’t vote in 2020. Please if anyone wants to vote for me (Appietus), he should go and register now,” he said.

Appietus has expressed his intention to contest the current MUSIGA president Bice Osei Kufour known as Obour. This will however be for the second time when the music body holds its next elections in 2020.

“If we are still alive and strong, I will contest but for now it is too early to declare my intentions”. Appietus said on Zylofon FM.

Appietus has worked and produced hits and classic songs from his Dansoman based Creative Studioz. He has worked with the likes of Kojo Antwi, Daddy Lumba (DL), Ofori Amponsah, Kwabena Kwabena, and so many others.

 

President of the Musician Union of Ghana(MUSIGA), Obour has revealed that the Union in the coming days will announce standard charges for musicians in the country.

According to him, the charges will be based on the ‘Class’ or Grade’ of the artistes.

Obour Speaks

He said, “We will have A-list artistes, B-list artistes, C-list artistes and MUSIGA is going to propose standard minimum wages that these artistes must be paid when you engage them for their services”.

He added that “We will mention the rates…what we will prescribe is not what the people will be charging but the minimum. It is one of the core mandates of MUSIGA just like the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) have their standards for lawyers. The lawyer works for one hour and there is an amount the lawyer must charge”.

Obour further stated that if musicians fail to comply with these new standards, “they will be ‘spoiling’ their own markets”.

The Musicians Union of Ghana is an umbrella group that unites all musicians in Ghana irrespective of their music genre.

Obour, born Bice Osei Kuffour is the current president of the association.

Bice Osei Kuffour, President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) says he doesn’t have any regrets since he took over the mantle to manage affairs at the union.

Mr. Kuffour was speaking in an interview with rainbowradioonline.com at a press soiree organized by MUSIGA to outline its agenda for 2018.

Instead he noted that if given the opportunity again, he would rather concentrate more on doing the work than telling the story.

‘’If I was to do this again, and with this kind of experience, I will pay more attention; I will have a very stronger communication team to make people know the things we’ve done,’’ he said.

Obour, (as affectionately called) however touted some of his achievements since since the power was vested in him.

According to him, ‘’there is so much we’ve done. I mean from the comprehensive study we did, the MUSIGA Academy, raising money and sharing it to our regional offices, training our regional executives, doing Ghana Music Week-where we take Ghanaian musicians abroad to perform…all these are achievements but people don’t know,” he stressed.

He added that people misjudge him due to misinformation and that has affected the perception people have about the union.

The MUSIGA president said he will within the period left for him to finish his term, work effectively by making his communication team stronger to make Ghanaians appreciate the good works of MUSIGA.

Short Bio On Obour

Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) is an umbrella group that unites all musicians in Ghana irrespective of their music genre.

Bice Osei Kuffour, aka Obour has been the President for the past 6 years. He was elected on August 18 2011 in Tamale in the Northern Region of the country. Other candidates who contested him at the time were; Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Nana Tuffour and Willi Roi.

The Musician’s Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has released the list of the top 20 most played songs on Radio in 2017.

Apparently, there was no Gospel music found on the list.

However, Ebony topped the list with her song, ‘Sponsor’, followed by Wutah’s ‘Bronya’, with Kidi’s ‘Odo’ at the third position.

Some songs from MzVee, Magnom, Patapaa, Kuami Eugene, Shatta Wale all made it.

The Top 20 Air-Play Chart 2017 powered by Qisimah Insights was announced at a press soiree held in Accra on 12th January 2018 at the BBNZ.

According to the President of the Union, Bice Osei Kuffour aka Obour, the list is based on data collated by the Union throughout the whole of last year. According to him, the initiative is part of efforts to make the Ghana music industry more data driven and empirical, so as to make data easily accessible to people who need more information about Ghana Music industry.

“Data in the industry is missing. When KPMG did the comprehensive study it was very clear that it was very difficult finding data. Henceforth, MUSIGA has decided that every year we will compile the top 20 songs for the year –  both gospel and secular,” he said.

He further explained that gospel music did not make it to the Top 20 songs, hence the decision to conduct a separate survey for the gospel music.

The 5th edition of the Musicians’ Union of Ghana(MUSIGA) grand ball came off a few days ago.

In attendance were many musician and some guests as well as the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo.

As usual, there were so many activities on the night. But one unforgettable moment was when President Akuffo Addo took the dancing floor. Joining him was Ghana’s first female Chief of Staff, Frema Opare Osei.

While the event came with its fair share of exhilarating musical performances and dance, the pair might have stolen the show.

Nana Addo ‘Boggies’ At MUSIGA Grand Ball

Initially having the dancefloor all to themselves, the President and Chief of Staff proved to patrons that they were not only about politics.

They both boogied as if they were still in their early twenties at the State Banquet Hall in Accra

The MUSIGA Grand Ball is an annual event hosted by MUSIGA. One of their aims is to raise funds for the ageing musicians welfare fund which supports musicians who are 60 years and above and assist musicians who are bereaved and incapacitated.

It also honors personalities and companies due to their unflinching support for the development of creative arts in Ghana and the music industry in particular.
