Mark Okraku Schools Kwaisey Pee On Who A Celebrity Is

Entertainment critic, Mark Okraku Mantey has rubbished highlife musician Kwaisey Pee’s assertion that there is no celebrity in Ghana.

Kwaisey Pee, in an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM on Thursday said no Ghanaian is fit to be called a celebrity.

According to him, comparing the social and financial status of celebrities living in the Western World to the ‘so-called’ Ghanaian celebrities, he is yet to see one in Ghana.

But reacting to this on the same Daybreak Hitz show, Mark Okraku Mantey who is also the

President of the Creative Arts Council disagreed with him.

Mark, explaining what celebrity means said it doesn’t involve the financial status of a person.

“He said we don’t have celebrities. It is untrue we do have. Bob Marley and Joseph Hill [Culture] dressed anyhow and didn’t drive luxurious cars but can you say they weren’t celebrities?

“Ethics is about how your society accepts something that is right or wrong. That’s why gayism is normal in the Western culture but not in Africa. Celebrity is the state of being known and talked about. A person who is widely known period per dictionary definition. So where from if you don’t have this or that, you’re not a celebrity?” Mark queried.

Mr. Okraku Mantey said “It’s not about richness. If Nana Addo goes anywhere the atmosphere changes because he is a celeb.. We have lots of celebs in the country from music to film, politics, and religion.

“I forgive Kwaisey Pee because he lived in the Western Culture for so long,” he concluded.

Creative Arts Court To Be Operational By Mid-2019 – Okraku-Mantey

The President of the Creative Arts Council has assured people in the creative industry the special court to deal with creative issues and disputes will begin work by mid 2019.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Mark Okraku-Mantey explained that lawmakers have

agreed on the operation of the court to protect the intellectual properties and rights of all people

in the creative art industry.

“People are just pirating music and works of many creative art people. Some of them think they are doing the owners of the arts a favour,” he told KMJ host of the show.

The President’s comments however come after the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture set

up Creative Arts Mediation Committee to deal with all matters relating to intellectual property

rights and disputes involving creative artists.

Furthermore, membership of the committee is made up of representatives of the Ghana Music

Rights Organization (GHAMRO), Audio-Visual Rights Society of Ghana (ARSOG), Musicians

Union of Ghana, Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) and Ghana Actors Guild.

The committee is chaired by Mr. Justice Samuel Brobbey, retired Supreme Court Judge, board

chairman of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) and chairman of the Brobbey

Commission that collated views from the public leading to the creation of six more regions in the country.

Mark Okraku-Mantey revealed the committee has begun looking into some cases already present.

“We’ve selected some people to sit with Justice Brobbey to go through some of the cases,” he revealed.

The Creative Arts Council president has meanwhile, assured industry players the creative arts special court has come to stay.

According to him, disputes and conflicts are inevitable. “We have always known there are issues but we did not know where to go.”

The court will moreover be made available at all times to all the people in the creative industry who

need their conflicts and copyright issues resolved.

“This is not an event that needs sponsorship to operate every year. No, it has the backing of the law,” he said.

Mr. Okraku-Mantey however warned the industry players to desist from bringing personal issues to the court.

Furthermore, Ministry and the Creative Arts Council is working to get the information about the court to all industry players.

“We will make sure all relevant TV and radio stations talk about and advertise the information across the industry,” Mr. Okraku-Mantey added.

Are Ghanaians Not Tired Of Zylofon Media?- Mark Okraku

Zylofon Media has come under lots of criticisms these past few days.

The organization, which is barely two years in the country has signed six artistes onto its record label.

Nevertheless, the media outlet has been making so many headlines for all the wrong reasons for some days now.

Although some have described the negative news emerging from the media outfit as mere publicity stunts, others believe things are falling apart at Zylofon.

A few Ghanaians, including the outspoken media personality Afia Schwarzenegger have however come out with their observations.

According to Afia, instead of the record label helping its artistes to prosper, they are rather dwindling. She took her time to explain her observations about each of the six artistes signed by the organization in terms of their career. There are a few who disagree with her but there are those who could not agree less with Afia.

It seems outspoken Producer and CEO of of Slip Entertainment, Mark Okraku Mantey is in concord with Afia.

According to Mr. Okraku, Ghanaians are actually getting tired of always hearing about Zylofon Media when no one even knows what they’re really doing.

He, therefore, questioned the record label’s significant contribution to careers of the acts signed on the label.

Mark Okraku Mantey Speaks;

“Where is the substance that Zylofon is selling to us?”, he quizzed on Showbiz A-Z on Joy FM with Naa Ashorkor on Saturday.

“If you say that you are selling a product, the product itself must be good before you can add the promotion to get the final consumption,” he added.

Mark Okraku Mantey also sought answers to what the signed artistes have been able to achieve since joining Zylofon Media.

“The artistes have they grown from when we knew them? I think we should be getting answers to some of those questions instead of every time Zylofon launching this or that cash thing,” he stated.

Mr. Okraku believes the company has the needed resources alright but lacks a solid foundation to propel its vision.

He also expressed his dismay at the communication strategy adopted by Head of Communications for Zylofon Media, Samuel Atuobi Baah, aka Sammy Flex.

He added that; “For me, some of the questions I would want to ask..all of us…are we not tired of Zylofon or discussing Zylofon?.”
