I Can’t Be Easily Replicated – M.anifest

It’s very common these days to see other musicians doing renditions of songs of their

colleagues in the Ghanaian music industry.

According to rapper Kwame Ametepe Tsikata, popularly known in showbiz as M.anifest

however he has not spotted anyone trying to do same with his songs.

The ‘godMC’ explained that this is because he cannot be easily replicated due to the level

of his skills.

“I don’t think I can easily be replicated because I have built my skill level and tried to find my identity that you can’t just replicate what I am doing,” he noted.

M.anifest further stated that, his genre of music is pretty odd from what Ghanaians are

used to and this differentiates him from his counterparts.

“I am okay that mine has been a gradual build of the under-dog and even now that I am quiet known, there’s still the under-dog status in the sense that, I really go left when the others are going right,” he added during an interview on Ghanaweb.

Manifestivities 2018: M.anifest Re-Unites With Sarkodie

Manifestivites 2018 made history over the weekends as the event which was headlined

by rapper Manifest thrilled patrons to electrifying performance last night.

The event which came off at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra saw thousands of patrons

jamming to the performances from some great musicians from Ghana and Nigeria.

The surprise of the night however came with the unexpected reunion between Sarkodie

and M.anifest who have been on each others throat for a while now.

Sarkodie who made a surprise appearance performed with M.anifest, sending

the audience agog.

Manifest and Sarkodie

Manifest and Sarkodie in 2016 embroiled in one of the biggest rap beefs the country has ever witnessed.

After Sarkodie released his ‘Bossy’ track, M.anifest who could not fathom why Sarkodie used

his name “in vain” replied with ‘godMC’. As industry persons argued over whether or not it was

necessary for M.anifest to jab Sarkodie, the BET award-winner replied the ‘godMC’ track with ‘Kanta’.

Interestingly, political talk shows even focused on the feud because it had become the talk of town.

As reported by GhanaWeb TV, M.anifest had this to say after the show:

“Before we went onto the stage, I think we sat in his car and I think we talked about an hour or more as musical comrades. It’s always been mutual respect so I think we had to show it to the people”.

Calling the ‘beef’ he had with Sarkodie a competitive rivalry, M.anifest stated that history has been made with his re-union.

He added: “A lot of people thought because of the competitive rivalry we had they didn’t realize the mutual respect we have for each other.

Even before we went on stage we spend a lot of time talking, just having a conversation because we both have respect for each other. And we just thought that this would be a great moment to show people that and we did.

“I think we made history together, we both have mutual respect for each other… I miss what people thought was such great ‘beef’. It’s just a competitive rivalry, there is nothing.

“We didn’t plan it like years ago, people thought it was orchestrated, we met recently and we had a quick conversation about it and big ups to the brethren for honoring his word.”

Other artistes who performed at the event were Simi, Burna Boy, Kwesi Arthur, King Promise and Efya.

Upon hearing the news, M.anifest took to Instagram to describe the rapper as ‘a merchant

of joy, kind-hearted soul, open-minded spirit’.

He said HHP’s death broke him but he is grateful that the multiple award-winning

legend shared his friendship with him.

M.anifest shared a photo with the late rapper with the caption:

“My brother Jabba. A merchant of joy, kind-hearted soul, open-minded spirit. Your charisma…enough to fill a room but you were generous enough to make space for everyone in it.

Rapper M.anifest has joined the tall list of celebrities who have reacted to Sarkodie’s ‘Advice ‘(Diss) song to Shatta Wale.

The song, since its release has got the whole nation talking and social media buzzing.

Unfortunately, Manifest also dropped a song titled “Fine Fine” the same day featuring Olamide.

Soon after Sarkodie released his song, Manifest made a tweet with the ‘I’m Dead’ emoji in

there with a hashtag of the title of the song “Fine Fine”.

This only implies that if he had known that Sarkodie would drop such an explosive hit,

he wouldn’t have also dropped his song.

Evidently, Sarkodie has killed the hype of his song. Even Shatta Wale who dropped

‘Mind Made Up’ music video is struggling to make it to the top of Youtube trends.

As of now Sarkodie’s “My Advice” song has clocked over 291, 137 views on Youtube barely 48hours after it’s release with over 700,000 downloads across music download websites in Ghana and Africa.

Shatta’s “Mind Made Up” is also around 90,983 views.

‘Fine Fine’ by M.anifest on the other hand has has 6,858 views as of the time of filing this story.

VGMA 2018: Most Popular Songs Awards Shouldn’t Be Determined By Votes – M.anifest

Awards-winning Hip-hop artiste, M.anifest says it is unfair to use votes in determining “Most Popular Song” at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).

M.anifest stated that he understands the motive behind the votes. However, he added that “it creates possibilities of rigging since those with money can buy votes”.

He therefore called on Charter House, organizers of the awards to change the metrics and basis upon which they determine the  winners in this category and reconsider the use of votes.

M.anifest was speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM.

“I get the idea behind the votes but I think it’s flawed. I would change it if I were in control. It becomes an election so the one with money wins…”, he said.

M.anifest, born Kwame Ametepee Tsikata, is however not the first person to call on the redress of this issue. Many industry players have called on the awards scheme to check the criteria used in selecting winners of that award.

This follows Patapaa Amisty’s huge lost in the Most Popular Song of the Year awards at the recently ended VGMAs.

Patapaa, who was highly tipped to win the award with his ‘One Corner’ song lost to his Northern partner, Fancy Gadam’s Total Cheat.

PRO of Charterhouse, in an interview on Hitz FM, indicated that the votes collated by the organizers suggested that Fancy’s fans voted massively for his victory in the category.

Notwithstanding, most fans of Patapaa and some other industry players felt he was cheated. This is because for them, Patapaa’s “One Corner” song went international compared to Fancy Gadam’s “Total Cheat”.

M.anifest further urged all industry players to pay less attention to awards. This according to him is because he believes it has the tendency to lower their efforts in the industry.

According to him, women songwriters give an interesting perspective to music and they are refreshing to listen to.

Asked why he thinks women in the music industry are few, the ‘Nowhere Cool’ crooner attributed it to the power dynamics.

M.anifest believes it is down to power dynamics where some men feel threatened by the talents of women, they prefer to let them be in the background.

“It makes it more exciting because you just can’t have this testosterone-heavy scene which makes it one way. I am anti one way.

Don’t Be In The Music Industry For Money – M.anifest

M.anifest has stated that if you want to make money; music is the wrong profession to go into. He stated this while on the Citi Breakfast Show. He said, “I always tell people that you don’t come into something like music wanting to make money, so if you do, just forget it. It goes beyond that and the fact of the reality is that a lot of people do not succeed,” he added.
However, M.anifest says he does not regret going into music saying it has brought about new opportunities to him.
He further added, “When you take the road less traveled you become an artiste and you do all these things that require a certain level of risk and unpredictability, you have to really have a strong sense of conviction that this is your calling and for me I have that. And also the fact that the longer I do this the more I can assume different roles not just be simply a musician but be many other different things, sometimes playing other rolls using the music as a vehicle. I’ve had the opportunity to write articles for the Guardian. I think every musician here is forced to be an entrepreneur”.
These remarks are interesting as it shows the struggles most musicians face and the opportunities that can present themselves when you persevere.
