I Almost Gave Up On Music – KiDi

Hiplife artiste, Dennise Nana Dwamena, born KiDi is obviously one of the top chart artistes in Ghana now. He has released back to back hit songs since he came into the limelight.

But the ‘Odo’ hitmaker has revealed that he almost gave up on music sometime ago.

In an interview with Showbiz, KiDi says he almost gave up because things were not going well after he won MTN Hitmaker.

READ:https://www.ghafla.co.ke/gh/87000-6/

After he won Hitmaker Season 4 in 2015, he released some singles but they didn’t fly and that discouraged him.

“I almost gave up on music, before the Odo and the others, I almost gave up, because things were not going as planned.

I remember in December 2016, I went to church on New Year’s Eve and prayed and asked God to turn things around if this is what I was born for and that has been it since,” he said.

Born Dennis Nana Kwaku Boadi Dwamena, KiDi is an alumni of Accra Academy and a graduate from the University of Ghana, Legon.

He looks up to people like Justin Timberlake, Kojo Antwi, Chris Brown, Bruno Mars and Usher.

When the 25-year-old is not busy in the studio or performing at shows, he spends his time watching movies.

He used to love painting as well but says doesn’t do much of that these days according to him.

Seeing Broke Veteran Musicians Scares Me – KiDi

Award-winning Highlife/Afrobeat musician, KiDi says he gets scared whenever he sees broke veteran musicians.

According to the ‘Odo’hitmaker, his fear is to end up broke in the future as he sees many

veteran musicians now broke any time he goes for events with his family.

“Sometimes when my family and my friends go out to see these veteran musicians and the way they are living now,

despite all the hit songs they released and the tours they did across the world, and seeing them like this today with no money,

some of them even ask for money to do their surgeries, it scares my family and they

ask if that is how I’m also going to end up, sometimes all these scare us,” he said.

He however advised his fellow musicians to invest while they are making money because good times do not last forever.

“I won’t blame Ghanaians that they don’t treat the industry people well, sometimes I feel like there is a hail period for every artiste to make money,

and, so, we should try to invest our money so that in the future if the money is not coming like the way it used to, we’ll still have something to work with,” he advised.

KiDi was speaking in an interview with Bismarck Boachie (DJ Premier) on Entertainment

Capital on Accra100.5FM on Saturday, 22 September 2018.

The 25-year-old singer shot to prominence in 2017 after winning MTN Hitmaker music reality show.

Musicians Entertain But Are Lonely – KiDi

Highlife and afrobeat artiste, KiDi, says although musicians per their job description

are entertainers, they are mostly lonely after leaving the stage.

According to him, musicians like himself keep asking: “Who is there to save the savior?”

because in his view, musicians lose friends as they become more successful in the industry.

KiDi, born Dennis Nana Dwamena was speaking in an interview with Bismarck

Boachie (DJ Premier) on Entertainment Capital on Accra100.5FM on Saturday.

He noted that;

“The reality of the whole thing is, as you climb up you lose friends.  It’s not supposed to be so but that is what it is, as God blesses you and the blessing takes you higher you lose your friends.

I wish that we all go up together but sometimes because of your busy schedule, you don’t even get time to hang out with your friends.

Some of them understand that this is what is happening so we have to adapt, but some also feel like you still have to have time for them.”

He continued: “It is very difficult to make people happy but when you are able to do that, you get home and it’s you alone, nobody entertains us, that is why we watch movies, we feel sad most of the time.”

The ‘Thunder’ hitmaker lamented that cyberbullying worsens the situation for them.

CHECK:https://www.ghafla.co.ke/gh/kidi-drops-visuals-for-his-latest-song-thunder/

According to him, musicians are humans, too, and the insults thrown at them on social media add to their sorrow.

“What makes it worse is the internet bullying because after all the work you have done as an artiste hoping to make people happy…

and you go back to sit alone trying to find your small happiness but go on the internet and people are constantly insulting you, we get worried.

Most of the time, we let go but sometimes, too, we are humans and some of these things get to us, so, people need to know that musicians are not robots, they are not God and, so, they need to give musicians that respect.”

I Didn’t Beg Davido And Mayorkun For A Collaboration – KiDi

Award-winning musician, KiDi has debunked reports that he begged or better still called on Davido and Mayorkun to re-make the chart-topping ‘Odo’ song.

According to KiDi, born David Kwabena Dwamena, his collaboration with the top Nigerian acts happened naturally which is contrary to what’s in the public domain.

He further stated that, both Davido and Mayorkun loved the song hence the collaboration.

Recounting the event that led to the collaboration, KiDi explained that Mayorkun was on a tour in Ghana when he released the original “Odo” single.

So, Mayorkun called and praised him because he liked the song himself and hinted on a possible remix.

Kidi continued that, he thought it had ended there until he was told by Mayorkun that he has shown the song to Davido who liked it as soon as he heard it.

“So, I was there one day when we had a call from Mayorkun to check my mail. Fast forward, I checked it out and saw Davido’s verse of the “Odo” track. Truly, it came as a surprise because I never thought of getting Davido on a song as a young artiste in the game.”

Kidi made this known in an interview with Fresh Boy Papa Jay on Enter Chat.

Fame Comes With A Lot Of Pressure – KiDi

For some who are not there, they will do anything to become famous. But for those who are there, being famous is a herculean task.

KiDi of ‘Odo’ fame, surely says so as well. He has joined a host of personalities and celebrities who have said fame is not an easy thing.

You suffer to get it and whiles in it too, it’s all pressure form every angle. Of course, as our old folks say, a child belongs to the mother only in the stomach, once born, the society owns him/her.

There’s also the fact that, once famous, you have to deal with the invasion of privacy and scrutiny from people.

Not forgotten that the media also has its eagle eyes on each of your movements and will not hesitate to make you their headline with the least missed step.

The Lynx Entertainment artiste, in a chat with Showbiz on Tuesday revealed that being famous has been tough for him.

“It’s been tough, it is not a walk in the park, everybody wants you to give them attention.

It’s a lot of pressure, everybody demands the right amount of attention,” he said.

That notwithstanding, KiDi, said he is very grateful to his fans for being there for him.

“Without them there is no me, I am very very grateful to them for everything they do for me, listening to my songs and watching my videos, I am really grateful to them,” he said.

He was asked what the magic was that did the trick for him after he emerged winner of music reality show, MTN Hitmakers.

“After Hitmaker I was still in school, I had to finish school and once I was done with it, everything started to fall in place and here we are,” he recalled.

He also disagreed with the perception of many that, the spotlight seems to be on his label mate, Kumi Eugene. Meanwhile, they are three artistes on the Lynx Entertainment record label; Kidi, Kuami Eugene and MzVee.

According to him,“There is nothing like one person getting attention, everybody has their plan and the team has time for everybody.”

He also hinted of his yet-to-be-released song, which he described as ‘deadly’.

“My next song is deadly, I am very excited about it and I can’t wait. I also have a lot of collaborations coming up so my fans should watch out for them,” he said.

Headies Nominated Kidi, Thinking He Was Nigerian – Richie

The CEO of Lynx Entertainment, Richie Mensah, has explained the sudden removal of Kidi’s name from the list of nominees for this year’s Headies in Nigeria.

Kidi was spotted on the nomination list for this year’s Headies, which is meant for Nigerian artistes.

The Ghanaian artiste had been nominated in the ‘Rookie of the Year’ category. He was placed in that category with Nigerian artistes Air Boy, Teni, Junior Boy and Peruzzi.

‘Rookie of the Year’ award at the Headies, which is organized by the Hip Hop World Magazine. This category, is presented to a young emerging Nigerian act who has performed creditably well in the year under review (July 2016 – December 2017)

However, Kidi, a Ghanaian, found his way into that category solely designed for Nigerian artistes. This was met with little protest from the public.

But his Manager, Richie Mensah, has explained why it took a while for the organisers to notice the mistake and subsequently took Kidi out of the category.

He spoke in a phone interview with Naa Ashorkor on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z last Saturday.

According to Richie, the whole incident was an oversight because, Kidi’s ‘Odo’ song had hit so much in Nigeria. Hence, organizers of the award scheme thought he was a Nigerian artiste. But had to remove his name from the nominees when they realized their mistake.

‘’They told us that they made a mistake because ‘Odo’ had hit so much in Nigeria that when they were putting together the songs, they assumed Kidi was a Nigerian,’ he said.

‘So they added him to a nomination which is meant for only Nigerians. When they realized that he was a Ghanaian they had to take his name out,’ he continued.

The oversight, according to Richie, is a great sign that Kidi’s ‘Odo’ song had dominated the Nigerian market. And even to a point where organizers thought he was even a Nigerian.

Meanwhile, Rapper Sarkodie was also nominated in the ‘African Artiste of the Year’ for the Headies.

The SarkCess Music boss is in keen contest in this category with Casper Nyovest, Nasty C, Sauti Sol and Vanessa MDee.

Headies are honours established in 2006 by the Hip Hop World Magazine of Nigeria. It aims at recognizing outstanding achievement in the Nigerian music industry.

This year’s event, will come off on May 5, 2018.
