Ghana’s ‘Keteke’ Nominated Along With Films From 15 African Countries For 2019 FESPACO Awards

Award-winning Ghanaian movie, ‘Keteke’ continues to put Ghana on the map after sweeping several awards, both nationally and internationally.

The short film, which is a Peter Sedufia production has once again bag a nomination for the category of  Yennenga Gold Standard of the 2019 Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO).

The organizing committee of the Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO) revealed on January 15, 2019, at the international press conference in Paris, France, the list of feature-length feature films selected for the 26th edition.

The selection involves a total of 20 films from 16 countries: Mali, Burkina Faso, Tunisia, Tanzania, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Mozambique, Morocco, Sudan, Rwanda, South Africa, Algeria, and Nigeria.

Burkina Faso however has the highest number of films selected (three), followed by South  Africa and Tunisia, each of which has two representatives as per reports spotted on Ghanaweb.com.

This year’s selection is full of powerful and entertaining films that together celebrate the diversity and uniqueness of cultures and stories from all over the world.

Mr Sedufia, in a chat with Ghanaweb expressed his gratitude to the organizers for this nomination.

“I am truly humbled by the news and I thank the team for this recognition. It’s a prestige to see your works being acknowledged globally,” he said.

Synopsis of Keteke

Keteke tells a story focused on the 1980s rail service system in Ghana and the train is the only means of transport from the outskirts. A couple – BOI (Adjetey Anang) and ATSWEI (Lydia Forson) living in Puna is bent on delivering their first baby in Akete but misses their first train. A wrong decision finds them in the middle of nowhere. Will they make it on time for the delivery, or, risk losing the baby and mother?.

The film however stars Adjetey Anang,Lydia Forson,Fred Amugi,Joseph Otsiman,Clemento Suarez,Jeneral Ntatia,Raymond Sarfo and others

Peter Sedufia is a product of the National Film and Television Institute, Ghana with BFAdegree in film directing.

He has further directed several short films with varied awards, including FESPACO to his credit.
