GHAMRO Drags Telcos, GBC To Court Over Non-Payment For Music Use

Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organisation, Rex Owusu Marfo has revealed that the organization has taken all telecommunication companies in the country and the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation to court for not paying to use music.

He made this revelation in an interview with Regina Van Helvert on GhOne TV. He mentioned that the attitude of people not wanting to pay to use music was an obstacle to the progress of the music industry in the country.

“We have to be factual and solve our problems in the Music Industry. We don’t have support systems and we must build it,” he said.

Meanwhile, this has been a major challenge the organization and some industry players have pinpointed in the past.

Rex Omar, has further stated that his office will nonetheless ensure to put a stop to this problem for the progress of the organization.

“We are still doing a lot of work and restructuring at GHAMRO. We now have the best welfare policy” Rex added.

Members Of GHAMRO To Enjoy Certain Welfare Policies

Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO), Rex Owusu Marfo, popularly known as Rex Omar, has revealed that, the organization is set to launch a welfare policy for its members before the year ends.

This is coming after members raised issues concerning measures GHAMRO is putting in place to ensure that veteran musicians are comfortable and appreciated for their work in the music industry.

According to him, Metropolitan Insurance was unanimously selected to carry out this task after inviting four different insurance companies to pitch their proposals which is said to cover the areas of health, life and personal pension for members.

Speaking in an interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Rex Omar said the Welfare Policy has been endorsed by the General Assembly and is hoping to launch the policy by the start of December this year.

“Before the end of November or early December, GHAMRO is going to launch a Welfare Policy that covers health, life and personal pension. The Board has unanimously chosen Metropolitan Insurance and the scheme has been endorsed by the General Assembly,” he announced.

He appreciated his board for the support they have given him since he assumed the seat as Chairman of GHAMRO.

According to the constitution of GHAMRO, the Chairman and Vice-Chairmen of the Board shall serve for a term of four years and may seek re-election as Chairman and Vice-Chairmen for another term only.
