After that incident, Agya Koo said all movie producers and directors in Kumawood ganged up against him and boycotted all films in which he starred or had anything to do with.

“I have no equal in the movie industry”, Agya Koo boasted to journalists recently during the launch of he TV, adding: “I’m a real heavyweight with no worthy contender”.

“My acting talent towers above all in the industry; not even Lil Win comes any close to me”, he said.

Video: A Meeting Between Agya Koo And Film Makers End In Chaos

There was a stakeholders meeting in Kumasi on March 20,2018 between a section of film makers and actor Agya Koo.

The meeting, which was purposely to find an alternative solution to revamp the Kumawood industry rather ended in a heated argument.

Agya Koo claimed he was recently called to be part of some key personalities in the creative arts industry. And has therefore been tasked to expedite action on resolving the movie industry challenges.

Agya Koo, who recently launched his Agya Koo Tv, urged movie producer to form an alliance. This alliance according to him, is to aid in creating one platform where all locally made movies would be uploaded on.

He added that this technological initiative is a pre-eminent choice to revive the ailing film industry.  And as well as support producers to recoup the huge sums of money they invest in their movies.

“For me I’ve my own Agya Koo TV that is why I’m advising producers to team up and subscribe to one channel, where local movies will be uploaded and the returns come to us. That is the only option that can save our dying industry.”Agya Koo said.
However, some of the producers and directors were not in support of his digitization initiative.According to him, the monetisation of their movie contents is directed to a different source. Therefore film makers cannot influence that course.

“There are so many sabotages with regards to these online channels. Once we as film makers don’t have control over the search engine it becomes so difficult for the movies to be popular. We did a research to look out for online websites where Ghanaian movies are uploaded and we had 623 websites but the money doesn’t come to the owners of these movies.” One of the producers told Agya Koo.

The meeting was held at the Kumasi Culture Center.

I’m Returning To Revive Dead Ghana Movie Industry- Agya Koo

Popular local actor and comedian, Alex Kofi Adu aka Agya Koo says he is coming back in full swing to revive the dead Kumawood movie industry.

Agya Koo who has been off the screens for a while now made this pronouncement at the extraordinary national delegates conference of the NPP  which took place over the weekend.

According to him, the individuals who took over from him did not do a good job and that has made Ghanaians miss him.

Agya Koo’s speech

“I am coming back to the screens because as a landlord, I need to come and take over my house because those who took my place have left the room with a lot of cobwebs and I need to come and make things right in order to bring joy to homes like I used to during my hay days”.

He further indicated that in his absence, the Nigerian movie industry took over the movie on the continent but his return will bring back the lost glory of the Ghana Movie Industry.

“People have asked for my return and I have considered their calls and I’m coming back in full swing next year. My return to movie will make the Nigerian Movie Industry put their hands on their head and cry because I am bringing something new and great to the industry in Ghana,” he told Kwame Adinkrah of Abusua FM.

“Next year, you just have to download 2c TV because we will be loading all Agya Koo movies on there for your viewing pleasure. We will also load all the new movies that promises to take over the screens of the country so Ghanaians should just be on the watch out for me”.

He further pleaded with Ghanaians to remember him in their prayers and also support him to achieve his aim.

Movie Industry Needs POP – Agya Koo

Ghanaian actor Kofi Adu popularly known as Agya Koo has given his thoughts about the Ghana movie industry. He acknowledged that the movie industry is not dead as many are speculating but rather facing a lot of new challenges. He humorously stated that the movie industry need Plaster of Paris (POP).

He said that telenovelas are not to blame for the failings of the movie industry. He said that telenovelas have always existed in the past yet they could not match the local movies he was featured in. He urged movie producers to try as much as possible to revive the industry by going back to the days when Ghanaian movies were exciting and something worth writing home about.

However, what Agya Koo fails to remember is that in the past, the telenovelas did not have Twi translations. Therefore even though people were watching; it did not have this mass appeal. Granted telenovelas have always been in this country; however, it seems like almost every television station in Ghana shows telenovelas.

It is true the movie industry needs help but at this point it is going to be an uphill battle to get viewers to shift their focus to Ghanaian content.
