Otumfuo Inaugurates New KNUST Council
The Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Otumfuo Osei Tutu II inaugurates the school’s new Governing Council.
Six new members join the remaining nine. Moreover, they include representatives from the unions.
The same representatives from the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), Prof E.K. Fokuo; the Tertiary Education Workers Union (TEWU), Mr Charles Arthur. Also, the Students Representative Council (SRC), Kevin Sah, are on the new council.
The Governing Council is made up of 15 members. Four of the members are government representatives. Also, a representative from the government chairs the council.
At the inauguration ceremony, the Asantehene expressed sadness about the recent riots that occasioned the dissolution of the council and necessitated its reconstitution, saying:
“It is a pain I do not bear likely.”
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II further address the new members. He disclosed that he will set up a five-member committee to launch a “full and transparent inquiry” into the incidents that resulted in the destruction of property estimated at GHS1.7 million.
The University shut down following the riots on Monday, 22 October by the students.
