Dr.Opuni has sued the TV station and Lil Win for GHC5,000,000.00 damages for defamation contained in a television programme. The title of the programme happens to be ‘Don’t think far News’.
‘Don’t think far News’ is more or less a comic news content. It however broadcasts on Adom TV station.
The show, has its producer as Daniel Nii Odoi Tutuwani and Kwadwo Nkansah Lil Win happens to be the presenter.
The suit was filed at the Accra High Court on Tuesday, 24 April 2018.
It names Daniel Nii Odoi Tutuwani and Kojo Nkansah as second and third defendants, respectively.
In the suit, Dr Opuni stated that on or about the 24th day of March 2018, on the prime evening hour of 7pm, MGL and Daniel Nii Odoi Tutuwani caused to be broadcast and published; and Lilwin broadcast and published as part of the very popular programme entitled: ‘Don’t Think Far News’, defamatory words in a mixture of the Twi and English languages.
The Programme is largely broadcast in Twi. It translates that Dr Opuni had hoarded over GHC2 billion. And had tried to run away from the country when power changed hands in 2016.
Dr Opuni is, therefore, seeking a restraining order to prevent the defendants from further publications of the said defamatory comments.
Dr Opuni is also seeking a retraction and apology on six consecutive times on Ghana Television, TV3, Joy TV, Adom TV. Plus a written publication on the website of Adom TV and Joy TV.
