Old Parliament House To Be Re-Constructed at GH¢15m

Four years ago, portions of the Old Parliament House, opposite the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum in Accra were ruined by fire. The building is now being pulled down to make way for a new facility.

According to YEN News, after the destruction of the Old House of Parliament, the new facility will be erected. It will cost GH¢15 million. The building was built at the beginning of the 1950s. It definitely was one of the most popular historical buildings in Accra.

Cymain Ghana Limited firm will undertake the destruction process. All works have already been started. The building was first barricaded, and local people were advised not to go close to it. Only Cymain Ghana Limited representative have right of entry to the site.

The Judgment Debt Commission, the Economic and Organized Crime Office, the Citizens Vetting Committee, and the CHRAJ were all housed at the building. In 2013, it was partially destroyed by fire. As a result, people could not occupy it any longer.

Officials have refused to divulge their plans to destroy the Old Parliament House. However, on anonymity, a source declared that the whole process would take about three days. No more information has been revealed.
