Ministry of Arts, Tourism And Creative Arts To Launch Television Channel – Catherine Afeku
Exciting times are ahead for the tourism industry in Ghana.
The Ministry of Arts, Tourism and Creative Arts will be launched soon. The television channel is going to show made-in-Ghana products, the rich culture and tourist sites.
The Minister, Catherine Afeku, says showcasing Ghana’s rich culture and tourist sites to the world will help boost the performance of the economy.
Over the years, tourism has not been given much attention. However, this initiative by the Ministry will help in the renovation and maintenance of the numerous tourist sites in the country.
The sector Minister, Catherine Afeku revealed this in an exclusive interview with Citi Showbiz. She said this at a symposium organised by Black Star International Film Festival.
Words By The Tourism Minister
“We have a lot of creative content. Also, we are competing with a foreign country which is saturating our media platform. So 9 months ago, I came up with a concept that we need an outlet for our creative art people.
It didn’t come easy. However, we finally have our license. This will give a platform for our festivals, the music, and the shows that never get airtime. That is what the TV is all about.
“Under our democratic dispensation, it is not possible to censor movies like some have been calling for. What we can do is to find creative ways to make local content competitive and commercially viable and that is what my Ministry has set out to do.”
Hopefully, this move by the ministry will be helpful for the industry as a whole.
