‘Kumkum Bhagya Has Taught Us A Great Lesson’ – Kumawood Producer
Kumawood producers open up about the crisis in the industry.
Kumawood movie producer and director, Samuel Nyamekye disclosed that telenovelas worried the industry. Furthermore, he stated that the emergence of telenovela ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ pushed the Kumawood producers to work harder.
He made these statements on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM.
Moreover, Mr Nyamekye revealed that the telenovelas taught producers what Ghanaians crave for, with regard to movies.
Also, according to the renowned producer, the most important element that the Kumawood industry needs to catch up with to be at par with international standards is the quality of their movies.
Therefore, the producer doesn’t believe that the Kumawood industry is dead.
Moreover, he said all the Kumawood movie directors are ready to produce movies with higher video standards. This is to eradicate foreign telenovelas flooding television channels in the country.
Nonetheless, Mr Nyamekye pleaded with the government to support the movie industry financially to boost contents abroad.
Also, he urged various industry players to drop their ego and work hand-in-hand with producers. This is to achieve a higher purpose in the entertainment industry.

“The Kumkum Bhagya opened our eyes to know what Ghanaians want. We need the money from government to compete with the Telenovelas. Telenovelas aren’t the problem. We are trying to get the capital to improve our video qualities.
Quality i very important. We are making sure all the producers know. Now we are making them understand it’s not about the money. Now we are in for the TV series too. It won’t be a one day something but with time we would get the people”.
