The CEO of Big Events Ghana, Prince Mackay, has lashed out at the organizers of the All

Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).

Prince’s disappointment follows the failure of the event organizers to have

created just a single slot for gospel music.

According to him, gospel music as a genre of music is one that has been a great pillar

for the continent and he does not understand why the organizers of the awards decided

to turn a blind eye to it.

Mr Mackay was speaking in an interview with popular blogger Zionfelix.

“I was so disappointed that organizers couldn’t just provide one slot for gospel music…Africa has many top gospel acts…” Prince Mackay stated.

The Big Events boss in throwing the jabs the way of the organizers of the AFRIMA awards

also called on the ministry to help with a new awards scheme for gospel music he has introduced.

Mackay urged the ministry to come on board to make this African gospel music awards

scheme a huge success just like they have done for AFRIMA recently.

He made the point that what the ministry did for AFRIMA is just for secular music and as such, they should do the same for gospel music by investing in his awards.

Prince Mackay further told Zionfelix that his awards scheme has been already launched in Accra. He also revealed that the scheme has already signed partnership deals with top media houses like EIB, Praise TV, DSTV, and PBN Africa.

The climax of the AFRIMA was on the 24th of November 2018 at the Accra International

Conference Centre (AICC). There were 22 categories for the awards.

These categories were Album of the Year, Best Artist, Duo or Group of the Year in an African

country, Best African DJ, Best African Rapper or Lyricist, Most Promising Artiste in Africa,

Producer of the Year, Revelation of the African Continent, Song of the Year and Songwriter

of the Year and many others but none for gospel music.
