H1N1, Swine Flu, Reported To Be Behind Deaths at Kumasi Academy

Over the past weeks, troubling reports have come out of Kumasi Academy. There were reports that students were dying after a short illness.

Furthermore, there are fears of a swine flu outbreak in Ghana. This is because the studentswho have been falling ill and in some cases been dying over the past few days were diagnosed with swine flu.

Noguchi Research Institute carried out tests. They found out that the students are infected with Type A Influenza, more commonly known as swine flu.

The strain of infection is the H1N1. This virus caused a massive pandemic in 2009.

Currently, it’s unknown how many students have contracted the virus. However, it is known to rapidly spread amongst infected populations. This would explain the massive number of students infected.

Currently 44 students are receiving treatment whilst close to a dozen have died.

Initially, some parents withdrew their wards from the school during the chaos. Later, they brought them back for inoculation.

This raises questions of how far the virus could travel in the general population. It can be assumed that any parent or anyone else has contracted it from a student.
