Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s Son Lauds President Akuffo Addo’s ‘Free SHS’ Policy
The son of Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah has for the first time made open remarks on President Akufo-Addo’s Free Senior High School policy.
According to Dr Onzy Nkrumah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), administration must be commended for its bold decision in rolling out the educational programme. To him, Ghana cannot afford not to educate its human resource especially the younger generation.
Speaking to Accra FM on Thursday, Onzy Nkrumah said it was a laudable idea for the Akufo-Addo government to have removed the main hurdle preventing many Ghanaian children from being educated at least to the SHS level. He also urged all Ghanaians and various stakeholders to give the President a push to make the policy sustainable.
“I congratulated him when he first came up with this. By the way, all the policies of Kwame Nkrumah are available to be copied, so Nana Addo should use all of them. Free education was one of the pillars of my father, and if Nana will allow himself to use all of the ideals of Kwame Nkrumah, that will be terrific and I will support him all the way,” he said.
Onzy Nkrumah also added that, “Free SHS is absolutely a necessity, it is overdue. I think even with the overthrow of Nkrumah, the people should have continued it. Can we really afford not to educate our people? No …So I think this is a step in the right direction.”
