Denkyira Obuasi SHS Students To Enjoy Full Scholarship

All continuing Senior High School Students of Denkyira Obuasi in the Central Region have been offered full scholarship by the Scholarship Secretariat in Ghana.

The Scholarship scheme is said to form part of measures taken by the government together with other stakeholders in a restoration process of the town.

Denkyira Obuasi, the town that became popular after some residents in the area lunched an army officer, Major Maxwell Manama of the 5th Infantry Battalion (5BN) on the 29th of May this year.

According to reports that emerged after the incident, the residents were said to have suspected the late Officer to be an armed robber and had therefore taken the law into their own hands by hitting him with stock, blocks etc until he passed out.

So far, a total of 60 suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder. The case is still in court whilst the suspects awaits their final judgements.

Though the incident has led to a public disdain for the residents of the area, Chiefs and residents of the town have come out to apologize and showed remorse to the bereaved family and Ghanaians and as well decided to change the name of the town from Denkyira Obuasi to New Obuasi.
