Creative Arts Should Be Separated From Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry – Barima Sidney

Ghanaian Hiplife artiste, Barima Sidney has bemoaned the neglect of the creative arts industry.

Sidney is therefore calling on President Akufo-Addo to decouple Creative Arts from

the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry.

The Ministry was created by the Mahama administration in 2013 to foresee and

regulate organisations and activities under tourism and creative arts in the country.

Few years after the creation of the Ministry however, many stakeholders have accused it

of being biased towards the Creative Arts sector stressing that all attention is on only tourism.

Current Minister of the sector, Catherine Afeku, has had her own share of the criticism.

Sidney said there was a need to alienate Tourism from the Arts to yield the desired results.

I think she is doing well but the only thing I will say is, it is not her fault but I think

combining tourism and creative arts is something the president needs to look at

because tourism is taking everything from the creative arts. Tourism is big and

they are pumping a lot of money in tourism and neglecting creative arts,” he said.

“So we will plead with the president to separate the two. Put the Tourism somewhere and let’s have the creative arts too,” he added.

Sidney, recently released a new single “One Day” which highlights the woes of his 2018.

Optimistic, this year will be better; Barima Sidney disclosed he will feature many of

his comrades on songs this year.

Also on March 6, the “Obia Nye Obia” hitmaker will release “State of Affairs,” which is

his assessment of the Akufo-Addo government.
