GHAMRO To Start Paying Royalties

The Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) released a statement about royalties. The association assured all musicians who are with the organization that they will start receiving their royalties from Monday.

The Public Relations Officer of the organisation, Prince Tsegah signed the statement. He stated that an amount of GHC500,000 is to be distributed. Also, the amount is part of collections made. However, the number is low as compared to previous distributions.

According to the statement, dwindling CDS and cassettes imports affected the revenue generated. This was from the 20 percent levy imposed on blank levy under the legislative instrument, LI 1962.

Furthermore, they assured members that steps are being taken to impose a levy on other devices such as mobile phones, pen drives, hard discs, laptop computers among others to raise funds for the music right owners.

Finally, they reminded all commercial music users, including broadcasting stations, shopping malls, banks, pubs, and hotels to renew their licenses by contacting any GHAMRO Offices nationwide
