The month of March is the ‘Wear Ghana Month’.
Wear Ghana Month,” a national campaign to promote the country’s cloth cultural heritage and boost the local textile and fashion industries.
The launch for this year’s took place in Accra under the theme,“Wear Ghana to promote the fashion industry.”
This is to be celebrated every March, Ghana’s independence month. The campaign is in honour of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of Ghana who was passionate about the Ghanaian cultural heritage.
Spearheading the event are; the National Commission on Culture (NCC), the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) and Street Fashion Train.
The month-long activity include a seminar for industry players, fashion show and exhibitions.
Other activities are a social media challenge which involves the public.
Here, the public are expected to flaunt their made in Ghana attires under the tag #wearghanamonth on all social media platforms. There will also be prizes and an awards ceremony to recognize various personalities for their contribution to the industry’s growth.
The month so far has been very ‘Ghanaian’. No coat, no International designer saga, only made-in Ghana products.
It has been all colorful one as social media was filled with Ghanaian products.
Many Ghanaians took turns to showcase their talents in the craft industry. A visit to the social media pages of some designers shows amazing products.
And when it come to the ‘slayers’ too, they never disappointed us.
One thing that was also predominant about the month was ‘Kente Weddings’
I call them ‘Kente Weddings’ because the couples indeed ‘Slayed’ in the Kente cloth.
