Censor Music Before You Play On Radio – J.A Adofo To DJs

Veteran Highlife artist J.A. Adofo has urged DJ’s to censor music before they play them.

According to him, authorities in the music industry need to pay close attention to the lyrical content being churned by the current crop of musicians.

J.A. Adofo, in an interview on Citi TV said, the lack of quality control in the industry has

allowed music with what he described as unwholesome lyrics to flood the airwaves.

“What I have to tell the key stakeholders and government is that during the days of Kwame Nkrumah, when we produced music we took it to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation and they kept it in their library,” he said.

He further added that; “there was a listening session which allowed for songs to be censored for abusive and inappropriate language and as a result, there was a check on the music that reaches the youth and society at large.

He however stressed that, these days there is no quality control on what song goes on air so

musicians get away with all manner of lyrics but the presenters must be firm and ensure to play the clean songs.

a conscious effort to check them if we want our society to be progressive,” he added.

Reacting to the debate in a conversation with Joy News’ MzGee, Kojo Antwi alluded such debate was healthy.

“It is good for the industry. I have a lot of respect for Kwadwo Fosu [Lumba], he is a brother, I believe God has a purpose for bringing him here the same time as me. I respect him because with Kwadwo Fosu, Nana Tuffour, Amakye Dede, George Darko we were able to breathe life into Ghanaian music”.

“The comparison and all that is good because it injects some new blood into the system and for me it is cool,” he added.

He says that’s an assertion that should be left to the fans. He added that time will also vindicate the better musician.

“I think that is for the fans to judge. I don’t think I said I do better songs than him. When it comes to what I do, I have a different target and he may have his own different target and it is not up to me to judge that my songs are better than him or vice versa. I try as much as I can that I don’t allow the media to create some kind of rivalry between us because we have existed in this industry for two decades…It is for the crowd to judge or time will judge us.”

“Akwaaba” Was A Build Up For Not Being Accepted”- Guilty Beatz

Award-winning music producer, Guilty Beatz talks about his career. Moreover, he revealed that his hit song “Akwaaba” was because no one accepted and recognized him in the industry.

He made these statements on the Cosmopolitan Mix on Joy FM Tuesday. Furthermore, he stated that he felt unnoticed, and that hurt his feelings.

“Every time I produced for an artiste, they hardly noticed me. I can produce a hit song like I did with the Jesse Jags and Wizkid track (Bad Girl), still, nobody knew who I was”

Also, he spoke about the fact that certain artists reproduced beats he worked so hard to make for them.

“The most challenging thing was when artistes you have produced songs for, let another producer reproduce everything you have done without your knowledge”

According to him, this made him stay away from the big stars in the industry and focus on his friends.

“It was bringing me down so I stayed away from the big stars and started doing beats for some of my friends”

Therefore, he produced the “Akwaaba” song as a cry for the recognition

“when I produced ‘Akwaaba’, I decided to put my name first before everyone else’s. Akwaaba came from my heart; it was a build up for not being accepted, the suffering and being pushed to the background.”

“So now if artistes are coming to me, they know they’re coming to a big producer, they will not take the beat and go to another producer to reproduce”
