Becca, Sarkodie, Kuami Eugene, King Promise & More Nominated For 2018 Soundcity MVP Awards

SOUNDCITY MVP AWARDS unveil their nominees. Moreover, the competition is stiff this year. Wizkid is the most nominated artiste in most categories. They include Best Male MVP, Best Pop, Best Collaboration, Digital artiste of the year, Video of the year, Listeners’ choice, Viewers’ choice and African artiste of the year categories. Nigerian artistes Davido and Burna Boy are close behind with several nominations. Furthermore, African artiste of the year include Diamond Platnumz, Sarkodie, Yemi Alade, A.K.A, Nasty C and Tiwa Savage.

Kwesi Arthur contends in the ‘Best Hip hop’ category alongside Khaligraph Jones, M.I. Abaga, Kwesta, A.K.A. Also, ‘Katika’ record by Navy Kenzo featuring Diamond Platnumz is up for three nominations – Best Collaboration, Listeners’ choice and Song of the Year. Several break-out, up-and-coming artistes, including KiDi, Teni, Sha Madjozi, Mbosso and King Promise are in multiple categories including the ‘Best New Artiste’ category.

There is a new category in addition to the talents. It is ‘African DJ of the Year’. This category celebrates the most accomplished DJ on the continent in the year. The the inaugural nominees are DJ Spinall, DJ Neptune, Prince Kaybee, DJ MicSmith, DJ Arafat, Black Coffee, DJ Xclusive, DJ Kaywise, DJ Vyrusky and DJ Maphorisa.

Furthermore, this year’s awards will honour excellent individuals and personalities in the areas of sports, entrepreneurship, creative arts, fashion, digital influence and socio-political development as it ties into entertainment.

The Soundcity MVP Awards is on the 5th January 2019 from Eko Convention Centre in Lagos, Nigeria.

Vice .com released a video as part of their short documentaries, Shorties. Moreover, in the video, they captured some of the best and wildest bikeriders in Ghana. The short documentary has social media buzzing. Vice explains it as

Veteran musician, Bright of Buk Bak fame talks about his music. Moreover, he says he will never compose a song that is not suitable for his children.

According to singer, every musician must pay attention to the content of their music. This is because there’s a possibility that it would affect them later in life.

He made these statements in an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM with Andy Dosty

“I wouldn’t want to put myself in a place where my kids can’t listen to my songs. I think the musicians must watch the contents they put out.”

He further added that,

“Some of the songs we did in the past, you listen and you be like I did not do that. As musicians we are creating today’s music but how’s it gonna reflect in the future?”

Yaw Dabo Fires Sister Deborah For Dissing Medikal And Fella Makafui

Kumawood actor, Yaw Dabo wades into the Fella-Makafui-Medikal-Ster-Debbie brouhaha.

Moreover, he joins many other celebrities who shared their views on the breakup. He made these statements to Nana Romeo of Accra FM. Furthermore, Dabo stated that he misunderstands why Deborah Vanessa recorded a diss song for Medikal and Fella.

He questioned why Sister Derby recorded a diss song because Medikal dumped her. Moreover, it was even a relationship but not marriage. Dabo further asked her what she would have done if what they had was marriage. He stressed that he felt very disappointed when he watched the video of the song, Kakalika Love.

Also, he stated that if Debbie believed in God she wouldn’t have recorded a diss song targeted at her ex-lover and Fella. However, she would have prayed for God to give her a new man who is very rich.

Africa Needs Drastic Measures To Survive – Sarkodie

International awards-winning Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie has shared his

views on the current state of the African economy.

For the past 15 hours, he has been venting

The ‘Highest’ album maker through a series of tweets has shared his

displeasure at how African leaders have failed their people.

In one of his posts, he suggested that what could possibly be the solution to

Africa’s problems is dictatorship.

What we need at this point might seem like dictatorship and will feel uncomfortable since we have enjoyed temporal [sic] freedom for a minute but we need drastic measures to survive,” he tweeted.

It is evident that ‘Gbooza’ hitmaker is worried about Ghanaians reposing their

hope in foreigners, especially those that led them into colonialism in the past.

In another tweet, he wrote: “We can’t be taking orders from the oppressor… it will never be in our favor.”

Making more allusions to the penchant to defer to powers from foreign lands, he tweeted:

“Lemme predict what’s gonna happen: they will come in with money to buy our rights again and build their labels here … sign 90% of us and control the revenue… And our survival instincts might not help with the best decisions.”

He further noted that he was looking forward to detoxing the younger

generation of ill intentions and rather empower the next generation.

“At this point , to make a change , let’s forget about the older generation, even our generation and impact the next,” he added.

He cited the aggression by the younger generation of musicians in breaking boundaries as an spirit worthy of emulation.

“Let me use music as an example: African music has been in existence for a long time but why is the world paying attention now??? Because at this point we took things into our hands, United and invaded… wasn’t an individual,” he stated.

“Those feelings are coming back again as always … My dream is for Africa to realize our power and care for our people … We need to take our pride back,” he said in another post.

Meanwhile,Sarkodie has been very opinionated on issues of governance and leadership.

In the past he has done songs about pertinent issues plaguing society, he has

taken leaders on for their mistakes and given hope to the youth in similar compositions.

He is currently out with a cypher ‘Biibiba’ which features 10 up and coming

rappers.

Former Managers Of Lilwin And Patapaa End Turf War Over ‘One Corner’

Former managers for Kwadwo Nkansah popularly known as Lilwin and

famous ‘One Corner’ hitmaker Patapaa Amisty have finally buried the hatchet

after series of media war over the original owner of the song.

Zack GH formerly of Lilwin’s camp and Godfred Bokpin who used to manage

Patapaa the Swedru-based artiste were brought together in Kumasi over the

weekend after a studio discussion on Metro Fm.

There was drama after the Host of Metro Entertainment Extra, Tony Montana

invited the two unknowingly for a discussion after which he asked them to end

their feud.

Godfred Bokpin who had come all the way from Accra at the initial stage of the

negotiation was a bit furious and did not understand why the host had invited

him all the way from the capital just to be told he has to make peace with Zack GH.

It was almost the same with Lilwin’s former manager Zack GH who was

reluctant to the peace agreement.

The peace process however took almost an hour for them to forgive each other

especially Godfred who thought Zack GH disrespected him first before his

retaliation.

Both of them later realized the boys they fought for were no more with them,

therefore, there was no need to keep grudges and had to allow peace prevail

Meanwhile, the whole saga started after Godfred accused Lilwin of stealing

his boy Patapaa Amisty’s song following their refusal to collaborate with him.

But Patapaa later revealed that he called Lilwin’s manager and was told the

artiste had already recorded a song titled “Two Corners” similar to his “One Corner” hit.

Godfred later threatened to sue Lilwin and his manager Zack GH should they

release the song which heightened the divisions between them.

Both have ceased managing the artistes they worked for with Godfred out with

new artiste Kwame Nkansh whiles Zack Gh is also working hard on his music

career with new songs.

Sista Afia Releases Video Effect Of Song With Shatta Wale

Ghanaian songstress, Sista Afia continues with her album promotion. Moreover, she dropped the official animation video for her song with Shatta Wale. The song is soon to be club and streets banger. The title of the song is Potato.

‘Potato’ comes off her ‘Queen Solomon’ album. She recently launched the album at the Westhills mall. The song was produced by MOG Beatz.

This joint with Shatta Wale is just one of the many other hits on the album. The ‘Queen Solomon’album also has songs which feature big names like Sarkodie, Bisa Kdei, Shatta Wale, Medikal, Kelvynboy, and many others. Her album is already a fan favorite

#D2R2018: Stonebwoy, Kuami Eugene, Kidi, Others Billed To Perform

One of the biggest events in Ghana during the yuletide is Decemba 2  Rememba.

This year’s event however returns with a line-up of top artistes performing for the night.

The programme will come off on December 24, 2018 will be held at the

Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

For the past years, Citi FM has been providing quality entertainment through

the D2R platform for revelers particularly listeners and fans of the station.

It is the only music show that has over the years kept its audience in a uniform

attire of white top and jeans.

Last year’s patrons had a rollicking experience as they got served quality

entertainment from Lynx Trio, Kuami Eugene, Kidi and MzVee.

The concert also had B4Bonah, Magnom, Adomaa, Fancy Gadam, Kurl Songx

and the late Ebony on the bill.

Ghana Beach Festival Launched

The maiden edition of Ghana Beach Festival was successfully launched at the Laboma Beach Resort in Accra last week.

The event is under the theme “Best Escape Anyone Can Have”.

This event will however be held annually with the vision to stage a

lifestyle event with a broad appeal and raise the bar in the tourism industry.

At the launch, the Chairperson of the Ghana Beach Festival, Nana Okatakyie Anim lauded the initiative.

He further urged Ghanaians to partake in local tourism to boost the economy and generate employment.

Sarkodie Currently Leading As Most Streamed Ghanaian Musician With 9 Million Streams On Spotify

Multiple awards-winning rapper Micheal Owusu Addo, popularly known as

Sarkodie has released his analytic overview of his performance on music

streaming platform, Spotify.

Sarkodie who dropped his ‘Highest’ album last year, garnered 9 million

streams on Spotify with 1 million fans listening to his music on the platform

from 65 different countries in the world.

The fans spent 602 hours listening to his music on the platform. With the reports we’ve seen so far from Ghanaian musicians, Sarkodie seems to be the most streamed Ghanaian artiste on the platform.

Earlier Uncle Ebo Taylor released his and he had 8 Million streams on Spotify. At the time of this post, Sarkodie seems to have the highest number with 9 million streams on the music platform.

No wonder, he bragged about his daughter enjoying the revenue from his ‘publishing’ (streaming) revenue in his diss song ‘My Advice’ to Shatta Wale.

Meanwhile, about Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy has 4 million streams and Shatta 6 million streams.

 

Gospel Musician KODA Reveals Why Recording At His Studio Is Expensive

Award-winning- Ghanaian gospel artiste KODA has explained why the charges for recording

in his studio are relatively higher than what other studios take for the same service.

According to him, there are two main reasons which account for the high charges at his studio.

The Takoradi-based musician gave the first reason as, differential pricing. He explained this point to mean that because he has trained many young guys, he does not want his fees to be at the same level as them. He adds that if he did that it will prevent these talented young men he has trained from getting business and as such the reason why his rates are a little higher than theirs.

KODA, born Kofi Owusu Dua Anto made this revelation during an interview on Hitz FM with host Andy Dosty.

He further explained that because the people he usually works with in the studio will have to

travel long distances for recordings, he will have to pay them very well.

This factor also results in the need to charge high rates in order to be able to adequately

cater for the financial needs of all the people he works with.

Ghana Is Indeed A Village, Cowards Are Afraid To Say It – Rapper Donzy

Ghanaian rapper, Donzy Chaka, has rallied his support for dancehall act, Shatta Wale

following his comments about Ghana being a village.

Charles Nii Armah, popularly known as Shatta Wale recently said during his performance

at the Indigo O2 Arena in London for his ‘Reign Album’ concert that Ghana is a village.

Many took to social media to condemn him for his comments.

But Donzy, speaking on ‘Zionfelix Uncut’ stated that it is a fact that Ghana is an actual

village which cannot be denied by anybody.

He told Zionfelix the host of the show that there are many people who have spoken to him

behind the scenes, who agree that it is true that Ghana is a village but will never make their views public. He also stresses that such people are cowards because they know the truth but will never admit it.

The ‘You And The Devil’ hitmaker further stated that many of our leaders travel beyond the shores of our country and are very aware of the successes in other countries. They see the developments many of these countries they travel have seen in these years in terms of its infrastructure and other areas which is not the same in Ghana.

Donzy was, however, quick to add that even though he totally agrees with the Shatta Movement boss, he believes the platform he used to put out his views was not the most appropriate.

Kwaw Kese Resolves Not To Smoke In 2019

Ghanaian Rapper Kwaw Kese has already revealed what his new year resolution is.

According to him, he has been smoking for 20 years now and believes that the time is

right for him to take a break.

The rapper, who faced the full arm of the law in 2014 for smoking weed in public, is asking

God to help him achieve his goal.

“I smoked for over twenty years, eii 2019 biggest resolution, I go go break small so help me God #GoodMan,” he said in a tweet.

The rapper, during an interview on Behind the Fame on Drive Time on Joy FM with Lexis Bill,

disclosed that he relaxes with a ‘spliff’ (weed).

Shocked by the disclosure, Lexis Bill asked, “You still do ‘spliff’?” to which he responded, “of course.”

“That issue is a public issue but if I am doing it under my bed that that is me,” Kwaw Kese offered as a defense.

The ‘Katiboom’ rapper was tried for narcotic offences and sentenced to a day’s imprisonment after he was arrested by police in Kumasi on November 22, 2014, for smoking cannabis in public.

He was also fined with an amount of Ghc1,200.

I Don’t Believe In Prophecies – Donzy Chaka

Ghanaian hiplife artiste, Donzy Chaka has in plain terms stated that he does not believe

in the prophecies of these men of God.

Donzy’s comment follows recent incessant prophecies especially concerning the death of

Ghanaian artistes by some Prophets.

According to Donzy, he was recently approached by a fan of his who told him that a

prophet had told him that he (Donzy) was going to die very soon through a motor accident.

The Tema-based rapper stated that he quickly told this fan that he should tell the so-called

man of God that he does not like such prophecies because he does not believe in them.

The ‘Crusade’ hitmaker was speaking in an interview with Zionfelix Uncut.

Donzy Chaka also added that he is sometimes surprised when he hears prophets put fear in

Christians because of death. Donzy questioned the logic in why a Christian should be afraid of death because it is believed that death is to the benefit of a Christian.

Donzy continued to make the point that every Christian who dies is supposed to go to heaven and as such prophets should allow their members to die and stop the negative prophecies.

Partying Ways With Kofi Asamoah Has Earned Me More Money And Movie Roles – Kalybos

Ghanaian actor, Kalybos talks about his relationship with Kofi Asamoah. He spoke about it in an interview with celebrity blogger, Zionfelix. Moreover, he stated that his decision to part ways was painful in terms of business. However, it was one of the best decisions he took.

Furthermore, he revealed that he made god money while working with Kofas. However, now he makes much more money. He added that he previously shot a single movie in a year. But now after their break up, he shot about eleven films just this year. Therefore, Kalybos stressed that it means a lot more money.

Also, he stated that he has been able to ink his signature to a lot more endorsements and ambassadorial deals

Anas Welcomes Reggae Musician Buju Banton From Prison

Ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, has welcomed reggae and dancehall star, Buju Banton, from prison.

The Grammy award-winning reggae/dancehall musician was however set free from a federal prison in Georgia on Friday, December 7, 2018.

This was after he was imprisoned in February 2011 for 7 years after being charged with illegal possession of a firearm and conspiracy to possess cocaine with intent to distribute.

The Jamaican musician was therefore sentenced to 10 years, a prison term his attorneys appealed to be reduced a year later, citing his “limited participation” in the drug

operation that led to his December 2009 bust.

Television presenter, Efia Odo apologizes after he public meltdown. Moreover, the actress went haywire on Twitter following the breakup her ex-boyfriend Kweku Revloe. However, she apologized for the manner she handled it

The Ghanaian actress wrote on her Twitter page that social media is not the best place for people to release their personal issues.

“Publicly wanna apologies to all you guys on twitter for my impulsive rants last nights. Been in one of the darkest spaces and I guess I didn’t know how to deal. Social media is never the place to release personal issues. Sorry to Rev for any embarrassment I’ve caused also” 

According to her, their relationship ended about two (2) months ago. However, she kept it out of the public domain till recently.

Kumawood actor, Kwaku Manu talks about the consequences of the hardships in Ghana. Moreover, he stated that due to the many hardships in Ghana currently, many married men are afraid of sex with their wives. This is because many men are afraid of the cost of hospital fees. Therefore, they live in fear of engaging in sexual intercourse with their spouses.

Furthermore, he used the examples of the cases he witnessed when he visited the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. He disclosed that a lady told them that her husband left her in the hospital. This is because he expected her to give birth to only one child. However, the lady gave birth to twins.

Kwaku Manu, therefore, stated that the cases of these people and the many others who are out there facing many difficulties financial are the reasons why he believes men are afraid to have sex with the wives now.

Shatta Michy Successfully Organises Hairstyling Masterclass

Ghanaian socialite, Shatta Michy held her successful hairstyling masterclass. Moreover, this was in collaboration with Kush By Taylar’. The masterclass gave young women the opportunity to learn a skil.

Furthermore, about 20 young women converged for the exclusive hair styling masterclass hosted by Shatta Michy.

They divided the hairstyling master class into four segments and spanned over 7 hours.

Kush by Taylar reiterated that everybody expected to be at the program was available and those targeted were the ones who were already into hairstyling. Also, he gave needed guidelines and a few tips to become professionals.

My Father Died When I Was Just 2 Years Old – Wendy Shay

Ruftown Records signee, Wendy Shay spoke about her upbringing. Moreover, she disclosed to the guests of ‘Stars In Worship’, one sad event that happened in her life. It occurred when she was very young

Shay told the audience that her father passed away when she was just about two years old.

The “Masakra” singer continued that even though her family was hit with this sad reality, the Lord did so much for them. Even though her father who was supposed to be their caretaker passed away when she was just 2, her mother stood firm and took great care of her because the Lord was good to them.

Also, she used the platform to heap praises on her mother for being there for her through all these years. Shay also thanked God for how far He brought her. This is because she is undeserving of all the favor.
