Ghana Film Industry Will Pick Up Again – Ekow Smith Asante

The Ghana movie industry is currently doing very poor. Many industry players have shared

their views on what is actually crippling the industry as well as ways to revive it.

The latest to add his voice to the matter is actor Ekow Smith-Asante.

Speaking with Showbiz last Tuesday, the good-looking actor admitted that the industry had slowed down.

“I think we slowed down a bit but a lot of talks are currently going on to make the industry vibrant, again—the Film Bill and the passing of the LIs etc.

“A lot is going on behind the scenes to get the government’s attention; so much work is being done to get things in place,” he said.

Ekow added that he had shot three movies this year, including Game of Class which was

premiered in Kumasi in the middle of the year, saying:

“I am currently on location shooting a television series which will hit the screens very soon.”

Answering a question on as to why he has not featured in any Kumawood movie, Ekow

said he hadn’t been tried even though he was among the pioneers who did local movies way back.

“Nobody has approached me, I haven’t been tried because I am seen as an English-speaking actor.

“I am Akuapim and Fante so I can easily communicate in Twi but I just haven’t been tried,” he explained.

For someone who started from the stage and still does stage productions, Ekow believes

that the challenges with the stage have to do finances and passion.

“Groups that can pay are very limited so those who pay are very few,” he said.

If he were to come back in another life, would Ekow still be an actor?

“As an actor, it opens a lot of doors for you, you meet a lot of people all over the world and become an international icon. I am a trained teacher, acting comes to me naturally.

“If I am to come back and be born in Ghana, I will read law and act, and if I am born in another continent, I will still be in show business,” he said.

Ekow had a piece of advice for aspiring actors, especially those who were in a hurry to become stars.

“It’s been a bouncy road, it’s been a no-go area from childhood where parents will oppose but things are different now.

“I wanted to be like Fred Amugi, David Dontoh and Oscar Provencal, fortunately I got the chance to act with them.

“With gradual training, you can be better than me, fortunately for you systems are being put in place to make things work for you.

“Don’t rush to come on television, if you are desperate, especially the females, people will use you and dump you. Take your time, master your craft and you will get there,” he said.

My Father, Mother, Nobody In Ghana Has Done Anything For Me – Shatta Wale

Dancehall act, Shatta Wale has finally released his venom on Ghanaians for attacking him over his comments a few days ago in London.

The SM Boss during his performance at Indigo, 02 in London said Ghana is a village.

His comment, obviously didn’t go down well with many Ghanaians who took to social media

to blast the ‘My Level’ crooner.

Reacting to the social media trolls once again, Shatta Wale claims nobody helped him survive the industry.

Check:https://www.ghafla.co.ke/gh/shatta-wale-embarrasses-himself-during-a-bbc-freestylevideo/

“Let me make it clear to you – I don’t respect anyone in Ghana.

Nobody has done anything for me including my father, mother and the media. Don’t try me because you can’t survive if we start a fight.

I am the only one who can close down a radio station, let the president and Ghana police beg me,” he was heard saying in a video which has since gone viral.

He also stated that he has never received royalties from his music but made all his money

being humble and begging people.

He descended on Ghanaians, calling them all sort of nasty names out of frustration. He threatened to teach Ghanaians lessons when he returns from his album tour.

We’re however wondering if Shatta Wale’s fans are not Ghanaians or yet still if it hasn’t been Ghanaians attending his shows which they pay monies for or not.

Beefing With Chicago Affected Me Negatively – Ex Doe

Many artistes have aired their views on whether or not beefing is good for showbiz or not.

Whiles some believe that beefing in the music industry is okay and makes the scene vibrant, others share opposite opinions.

One of the artistes who believe beefing has a negative impact on whoever is involved is Hiplife artiste, Ex Doe.

Ex Doe believes it is wrong because he was negatively affected by it some years ago.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, the Daavi Medekuku hitmaker shared how

he personally suffered years ago all because of beefs.

According to him, he was deeply affected by the beef with his colleague, Chicago,

and would not encourage any artiste to get involved in any beef.

Although I got the buzz, it was for a short period. In the long run, I was tagged as a beefing artiste and lost a lot of corporate shows.

“At some point, fans of Chicago started attacking my fans and vice versa. I was even scared to go to some shows where I knew there would be a lot more of Chicago’s fans,” he said.

Explaining why he thought beefing was not the best, Ex Doe said an artiste who was

constantly beefing might end up losing great shows.

“Otumfuo or Ex-President Kufuor will not invite such an artiste for a dinner dance. They will prefer the likes of Wiyaala, Kuami Eugene or Efya to perform at such functions,” he said.

He added that an artiste who liked to beef would most likely lose the majority of his fans.

“What most musicians don’t know is that if they beef each other, they end up splitting their

fans because you can’t tell who the fan likes to listen to.

“For instance, a fan of Stonebwoy or Shatta Wale can easily move away when they

realise all they do is to beef each other,” he said.

Read Also:https://www.ghafla.co.ke/gh/3333-3/

He is certain that beefing is a cheap way an artiste uses to get to the top which he

thinks is not the best.

“If you are talented, why diss another artiste just to get to the top. Do good music and your works will be appreciated,” he added.

Citing an example, Ex Doe said he supported artiste manager Bull Dog for preventing

Stonebwoy and Samini from performing at Shatta Wale’s Reign album launch because anything could have happened.

Ex Doe has credit with songs such as Maba and Gogowoho.

He is however and is currently promoting his latest single, Cash and Carry.

Being a Church Goer Doesn’t Make You a Good Christian: Efia Odo

Actress and Instagram model, Efia Odo talks about her relationship. She went on her social media to school her followers on who a good Christian is. Moreover, according to her, going to Church does not make you a Christian. However, it only makes you a Church goer.

In the video, the actress mentioned that people always argue with her when she says going to church

“Going to church does not make you a Christian, it only makes you a church goer. Being a christian is not about how many times you go to church, or how much you donate, or how much money you give to orphans just to feed homes. It has nothing to do with that, if your heart is not good, then all of that action that you’re doing, has no reaction to when it comes to God”

“To be of God, you have to have the attributes of God. Your heart must have the attributes of God”.

However, Efia Odo revealed in interviews that she is having a hard time staying a Christian. She has also admitted to not been a perfect Christian.

I Write My Own Lyrics – D-Black

Ghanaian rapper, D-Black has revealed that he is the brain behind the lyrics of every song

he has released since his journey in music began years ago.

The Black Avenue Music boss added that the reason he writes his own lyrics is because his

songs relate to incidents he has experienced personally.

According to him, it will be difficult for him to ask a fellow musician to write his lyrics

because they can’t relate to his lifestyle and experiences.

“It’s something I cannot do… it’s not a part of me. I feel like as an artiste you should tell your story from inside you, so another person writing for you would take away that vibe, so I will tell the story myself in whichever way I can,” he disclosed in an interview on Hitz FM.

However, the rapper, known in private life as Desmond Blackmore says if he was to hire a Ghostwriter he would select either M.anifest or Obrafour because of their storytelling abilities.

“…If anybody is to write for me, it has to be someone who is telling a story I have not experienced. So, it depends on the song I’m trying to create, M.anifest is a great story writer, Obrafour… if anything, those two.”

The multiple award-winning artiste clarified that, he was not against rappers who employ the services of Ghostwriters to pen their raps.

“Everybody is different, I’m talking about me, it’s really difficult to have another person write for me.” he explained.

Evangelist Aning Explains Meaning Of ‘Bobolebobo’

‘Bobolebobo’ is a song which currently enjoying massive airplay in Ghana now.

Many have however been wondering what the term  ‘Bobolebobo’ in the song, which also happens to be the title of the song actually means.

This is due to the fact that, though lyrics of the song are all in the Asante Twi language, that particular word isn’t.

The composer of the song, Evangelist Isaac K. Aning, has however come out to explain the word came about and what it actually means.

According to the singer, the term was couched from a Dagbani word ‘bom’ which literally means fire.

In an exclusive interview with citinewsroom.com, he said he had to play with it to sound

good so he dropped the ‘m’ and made it repetitive so it would flow with the rhythm.

“Bobolebobo is a Dagomba language. ‘Bom’ in Dagbani means ‘fire.’ But I took off the ‘m’ because I realised if I used ‘bom’ for the song, it would not sound good. As a musician, I wanted to play with it, that is why you hear a repetition of the ‘bo’ and a ‘le’ somewhere,” he explained.

The ‘Bobolebobo’ song was massively played over last weekend during the the congress grounds of the NDC.

There is another version which has goaded the evangelist to take action against the

NDC former President John Mahama’s name in it.

Apparently, it is a campaign song that has been composed for the former president who has

announced his intention to contest for the NDC primaries ahead of the 2020 elections.

ever offered sex in exchange of movie roles.

entertainment industry when actually the situation is ubiquitous.

slammed journalists and program hosts been in the

Baby Blanche, who has been in the industry for a decade is is certain that she has worked hard to get to where she is now.

As such, she gets ticked off whenever media persons ask her whether she has offered

sex with producers in order to get roles

“I am just tired of being asked if I exchange sex for roles or anything. See, about two weeks ago, I went to a media house to promote my television show and the host asked me about sponsorship then after I answered, the next question was whether I was sexually harassed or offered sponsorship in exchange for sex.

“Please some of us have worked hard to get to where we are. Honestly, I felt ridiculed, I felt bad. It’s like they paint the picture as if these things only happen in the movie or entertainment industry; it happens everywhere, in every career.

“I’m sorry, that question is a dumb question. Wherever males and females converge, there will always be proposals, requests, soliciting, demands; even in the animal’s kingdom it happens.

“In the medical fraternity, it is there, law, in politics, it is everywhere,” Baby Blanche told Showbiz.

She added that: “It is not just me. I have listened to and watched a lot of shows and it was always the females they threw those questions to.

“What about the men? Are they not part of the human race and who says they

do not face similar things we go through?

“It is time we do away with such questions; you hear some asking if a female musician has slept with her manager or something. I have been thinking about it and I do not get it.”

Baby Blanche advised the media to focus on promoting the content they bring to them instead of focusing on sex.

“The interesting part of all this is that even when you try to dodge that question, they have a way of being persistent. It’s like they want to hear something by all means.

“It is just not encouraging at all; we have gone past those kinds of questions. I come to you because I have something good I want the world to know about and you are the mouthpiece.

“You are to help me push that good thing out there and it should end there. Ever since I got into the industry, it has been like that and it is time we put a stop to it”, she said.

Baby Blanche was discovered by Socrates Safo of Movie Africa Productions and has appeared

in several movies helmed by the producer/director, including Hot Fork, Adults Only, What S*x Can Do, among others.

She now has her own television show, Girls Girls With BB.

According to him, no substantial achievement in the music industry can be credited to Obour

for his eight years of stewardship.

“Obour has done nothing, what has he done, not that I know of. If he’s done something I stand to be corrected. He’s done absolutely nothing profitable.” He told Andy Dosty on Hitz FM.

Criss Waddle added that they (Musicians) had immense trust in Obuor being one of their own.

They were therefore confident then that he upon assuming power will promote the

welfare of musicians but sadly he’s woefully failed his colleagues.

“We believed in Obour because at the time we felt that this guy had been with us and so when he gets to the Presidency of Musiga he’ll fix all the things we had been complaining about, but after he got to the top, he’s only been ‘chopping’ that’s about that, he’s not been doing anything apart from ‘chopping’. I’m saying so because nothing is becoming big, the industry is not becoming big, it’s only his stomach which is becoming bigger.”
