Journalist Shamima Muslim Gives Reasons Why She Likes And Dislikes Kuami Eugene’s “Wish Me Well”

Broadcast journalist, Shamima Muslim Alhassan talks about Kuami Eugene’s song.

She offers insightful reasons on why she dislikes the song.

Moreover, she stated that she loves the lyrics of the song. However, she dislikes some aspects of the last verse. In a Facebook post, Shamima said every human being is fallible. Therefore, she doesn’t agree when the singer says “Mi menye obia mpo boni” (I have done no evil against anyone).

According to her, the song would have been more empowering had the last line been ‘I dey wish you well, so wish me well oh’, instead of ‘If you wish me well, I dey wish you well oh.’

Shamima Muslim on her like and dislike for Kuami Eugene’s ‘Wish Me Well’

Greetings all… Why I Love and dislike Kwame Eugene’s ‘Wish me Well chorus!

So some years ago, when the late Komla Dumor (may he continue to rest in peace) was still hosting the Joy SMS, I sent in a message on a matter they were discussing. It must have read somewhat like “everyone says someone is doing something to them, so who is doing what to whom!

Don’t get me wrong, Hell exists for a reason, whether you get a taste of it here or in the hereafter! There are bad people and they will get what they deserve as determined by their choices and life path.

But take a cursory look around you! Too many people taking the high stand and pointing fingers at all their very many enemies wishing them ill. Hardly any ever confessing to any instance where they may also have hurt, spoken ill, betrayed, disappointed…others. It will seem as if ‘many’ people think themselves near perfect or overate their ‘goodness’ and believe themselves justified for their ‘little’ sins.

So what has Kuami Eugene’s song gotta do with this long epistle. Like I said I love the song but I dislike the last line of the chorus! See Chorus – Kuami Eugene} ‘Mi menye obia mpo boni’ (I hold no evil against anyone) I no do them anything Enti wosei mi ah na ay3 d3n (so what do you gain by destroying my name) ## if you wish me well I dey wish you well O##

So here is my thing, I think the song would have been more empowering and different, if this last line had read… ‘I dey wish you well, so wish me well oh…’
See we must all be trying to set examples by mirroring as much as we can the actions we expect from others. The world will be a better place if we do. Don’t you think?
So You, you and you…I wish you well, so wish me well oh…. #stillgotmadloveforkwameugene #lunchtimerandommusings #bethenchange Thanks for reading…
