Focus On Stagecraft, Not Studio Recordings – Kojo Antwi Advises Budding Musicians

Veteran Ghanaian Highlife musician, Kojo Antwi has charged modern musicians to focus on polishing their inability to stage live performances.

Kojo Antwi, also known as the  Music Maestro is well known for his entertaining live performances.

He further noted that unlike him, the current crop of musicians focus on studio recordings rather than learning the art of stagecraft.

“The difference now is that you have musicians who come out of the studio before they become musicians. And you hear a lot of people complaining of their inability to play live shows”. He told Becky on ‘E With Becks’ on Joy Prime.

“I started on stage before entering the studio. They enter studio before coming on stage, so they have to be groomed for the stage,” he said.

The ‘Adiepena’ hitmaker believes artiste managers must make a conscious effort to groom their new artistes. Thus, with the skill of live stage performances.

That notwithstanding, Mr Music Man, recommends that until an artiste has a repertoire of songs which can sustain a live audience, he/she must not mount the stage.

‘…even when you have just a single out, it is not the time for you to go out there and play, that’s my advice. You need a repertoire of about 30 minutes that you can sustain an audience with’, he stated.

Meanwhile, Kojo Antwi was the first Ghanaian ever to be nominated for Best International Act at the BET awards. That was when the category was first introduced in 2010 also recounted his experience.

I have banned all [musical] concerts at the stadium. No more [musical] concerts until further notice.”

Snakebites Kill More People Annually And It Is The Poor Who Die – Kofi Annan

According to statistics, between 81,000 and 138,000 people lose their lives every year as a result of snake bites.

Furthermore, according to former United Nations Secretary-General, snakebite is currently the biggest health crisis plaguing the world. Moreover, in an article he addressed the disturbing statistics. Also, he expressed concern at the alarming rate of death by snakebites globally.

Kofi Annan on the snakebite phenomenon

“A few years ago, a local doctor in Ghana drew my wife Nane’s and my attention to the devastating impact that snakebites had on his community. We were shocked to learn that snakebite kills between 81,000 and 138,000 people globally every year, with many more suffering lasting mental and physical impairments. By comparison, the mosquito-borne Dengue fever claims roughly 20,000 lives annually worldwide. Despite its huge impact, snakebite is the biggest public health crisis you have likely never heard of. To date, it has been largely overlooked.

“Snakebite is essentially a disease of the poor. It mostly affects populations living in some of the poorest, most rural communities of Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Oceania and Latin America. Smallholder farmers, their families, herdsmen, and displaced peoples are particularly vulnerable. These groups often lack even the most basic protections such as snake-proof footwear or bed nets.

“Once bitten, even if the victim survives, he or she may be unable to provide for their family. The knock-on effects are felt by children who must work instead of going to school. Or by relatives who need to share their limited resources to help care for the affected family.

More on the article

“In many remote areas, a lack of transportation and poor roads hamper the prompt treatment of snakebite victims. Even when victims reach a hospital, they may find that there are no trained staff or the right equipment to treat them. These chronic challenges are compounded by the shortage of safe, effective, and affordable antivenom in regions of the world where the risk of snakebites is endemic. The decision of some manufacturers in recent years to cease production altogether and the simultaneous spread of poor quality anti-venoms has worsened the problem.

“I strongly believe that snakebite envenoming poses a serious public health challenge. But it is a challenge that can be surmounted. This is a forgotten crisis, and we need to take immediate, robust, and sustained action to confront it. We can save lives of thousands of fellow humans by working together to tackle snakebite.”

There’s Nothing Wrong With Exposing My Banging Body On Stage – Wendy Shay

Fast-rising musician, Wendy Addo, best known by her stage name, Wendy Shay has said that she sees nothing wrong with a performer revealing part of her body on stage.

According to the singer, exposing one’s body as an entertainer is part of the package because artistes are meant to entertain their audience with what they’ve got.

“If Mzvee or I, dress to the stage with things that bring out my body because of my figure I don’t see anything wrong with it,” she said in an interview on Accra FM.

Wendy believes that, all that is just an act to entertain her audience.

“A nurse wears her uniform so that one can identify that this person is a nurse. If you are an actor or singer you are an entertainer and you have to entertain your audience. For me, I call it an act it’s just an act,” she said.

She however, indicated that “everyone admires something beautiful but I didn’t say we should be exposing our bodies. I didn’t say when you expose your body that’s fine, like going extreme”.

The ‘Uber Driver’ hitmaker added she will however not wear revealing cloths when she is not on stage.

“I won’t dress like that to the market, it is just for the stage.”

We all know we cannot underestimate the value of the breast to women and even to we men. We’re organizing this event to create awareness and to make everybody know that it is important to take care of their breast to maintain their health. And to also ensure that they live longer not because of anything but to take care of themselves especially their breasts. The breast is very delicate and sensitive and must be catered for”. Mr Augustine said.

He lamented that most women do not know how to prevent breast cancer. He also added even when they get the disease they are oblivious of how to take care of it. Former Presidential staffer under HE John Dramani Mahama administration, Stan Dogbe strikes at Okyehene Amoatia Ofori Panin II. Furthermore, the Okyehene revealed how the former Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur was taken to the 37 military hospital.

Moreover, Stan described the revered chief’s narration as an attempt to score cheap popularity.

Okyehene’s narration of what happened

“There was no ambulance to convey the former vice president to the 37 Military Hospital.”

“As it’s been for 14 years, any time I go there, I meet my friend and we’ll talk, shake hands … and then go to our different machines… I heard ‘bang’! Three women in the gym were screaming, I left my machine and went and there laid my friend trying to find some air to breathe.

“We gathered around him and pumped his heart as hard as we could, yelled out his name; his wife was calling out: ‘Jesus, save him!’ I just said: ‘call the ambulance, let’s take him to the hospital.’ There were about seven, eight of us, and something dawned on me. When we took him out, there was no ambulance, there was no car, so we threw the former vice-president in the back of a pick-up and drove off to 37.”

However, Stan classified the narration as a ‘unreal popularity seeking story’. Also, he stated he has some questions for the Chief.

10 Things Ghanaian Girls Would Say Instead Of ‘I Love You’

Women, by nature are shy to be the ones to propose especially Ghanaian women. Although this act seems to be depreciating, there is still a greater number of Ghanaian women who wouldn’t dare to propose to men. Instead, they devise their own ways of doing so and then comes the part they have to admit that they are in love with a guy. They just can’t tell you to your face “I love you” because of some archaic societal norms.

No matter how much they have fallen for a guy, they will still beat around the bush whiles using shyness as the excuse to express their feelings.

Luckily, there are several expressions they use when they are into you and want you to approach them with a love proposal.

Here are 10 basic things Ghanaian Girls Say Instead Of ” I Love You”.

1. ‘ I don’t want your girlfriend to come and beat me o!’

Women are clever creatures. She wants to know if it’s safe for her to keep crushing on you. You know not every lady want to share a man. She asks you that question to find out if you have a girlfriend or not.

2. ‘Is there a light in your house?’

This expression really came up when Ghana experienced the power shortage (Dumsor). It’s no surprise she may not have a light in her house —but the issue here is, why you?

She most likely has girlfriends she could have easily visited but she chose to call you and ask that. The answer is simple. This means she wants to come over to your house and hang out, but she is looking for an excuse to avoid making it obvious.

3. ‘You can’t even call me sometimes’

Genuinely it could be she just wants to hear from you but 9 out of 10 times, She misses you and wish you are in her life. Don’t miss the chance bro. ‘You can’t even call me sometimes’ is the code for ‘I miss you’.

4. The little thing you do, then she gets angry

She gets angry easily with the little things you do. Little things you do she gets pissed at you. If you decide to ignore her too she gets angry. Look closer, she is definitely in love with you. She is just frustrated you don’t see it.

5. ‘Won’t you come and take me out?’

If she keeps nagging you with ‘Won’t you come and take me out. It’s her own way of asking you to ask her on a date.

6. ‘You just forgot about me’

When a lady friend of yours keep asking you this, it means she wants you in her life. She wants you to keep thinking about her and possibly ask her out. Don’t miss this chance. It’s her way of saying “I miss you”

7. ‘Have you eaten?

Bro, she is not your mother neither is she your wife so why always that question. Look sharp. She is communicating something to you. She cares about you a lot and wants you to see it.

8. ‘I hate you’

One thing about Ghanaian ladies is that they are the queens when it comes to reversed psychology. The constants ‘I hate you’ is her way of telling you she loves you.

9. ” How is your family”

It’s normal for her to ask once in a while if your family is ok. But if it becomes an obsession, then she is telling you she wishes to meet them in a special way one day. She is definitely sending you ” I love you ” message.

10. She keeps judging your appearance”

When what you wear and how you look constantly matters to her. She is indirectly tailoring you to fit her desires. Be bold and tell her what you think about her. She has already fallen for you.

These are some of the ways a Ghanaian ladies say ” I love you’ or already in love with you. She just needs you to take the first step.

Are there some other ways we missed? Let’s get interactive in the comment section. We can always update the list.
