Organisers of Golden Movie Awards Africa, NMJ Ghana unveil the hosts of the 4th edition ahead of the event. Furthermore, the event is on Saturday 2nd June 2018.

Golden Movie Awards Africa selects its hosts

Ayo Makun (AY) returns to host the GMAA for a second successive year. Moreover, he is a multi-talented showbiz personality. Furthermore, he is expected to bring on board his comic side, acting abilities and mastery over show hosting. These are the expectations when he mounts the stage to host the biggest film awards on the African continent.

Furthermore, co-hosting the show with AY is actress and broadcaster, Joselyn Dumas. The actress has a great reputation for herself. Also, she is undoubtedly one of the go-to MCs in the country.

The event will take place at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra. It will start with a Red Carpet session for celebrities from all over Africa from 4 pm. However, the main event takes place immediately afterward from 7 pm.

The awards ceremony expects to attract a large number of stakeholders in the movie industry across Africa.

GMAA is an annual event that seeks to award excellence in movie making on the African continent and the African Diaspora.

Instituted and organised by NMJ Ghana and its partners, the GMAA brings together professionals in filmmaking in Africa once every year to celebrate, promote and reward those who have excelled in their area of filmmaking.

John Dumelo highlights benefits of agriculture.

Ghanaian actor, John Dumelo has some advice for African Presidents. Furthermore, according to him various leaders within the continent of Africa should focus on making Africa an agricultural continent. Therefore, this will stop us from begging for food.

Moreover, he made these statements on his Twitter handle while observing the African Union day.

However, Mr. Dumelo said its very sad and bad for Africa to be begging for food when we have all it takes to grow crops to feed ourselves and make money out of it.

Therefore, John Dumelo charged all African leaders to invest in agriculture.

“It’s sad that some African countries still need food aid. On the occasion of AU day, I charge African presidents to invest in agriculture. It’s billion dollar industry and that can save African economies. Let’s feed ourselves whiles making money out of it.”

Hammer and Kaywa define what makes a hit song.

Two sound engineers, Hammer of the Last Two and Kaywa exchange words over the correct definition of a hit song.

Initially, Kaywa defined a hit song. However, Hammer shredded his response and gave his own understanding of the term.

Furthermore, Sarkodie recently said that getting a hit song is actually a very easy thing to do.

That led to Kaywa’s views on his comment being solicited. He stated

“[A] hit song has to appeal to a larger audience, has to stay in the system for a while or stand the test of time and should have a great production, great videos and great lyrics.”

However, Hammer has also debunked that definition and said what Kaywa means is a classic.

“Kaywa is confusing classic with a hit song.

Classic is the song that survives the test of time and not a hit song… a hit song is a hit song. What makes up a hit song is basically simplicity. Simplicity helps a song go all out. You do not need to have very great idea to come out with a hit song, a hit song is relative. A song like ‘Gamgam style’ has no content but it was just about the dance. You don’t need have too much knowledge to come out with a hit song.

But a classic is a classic so in Kaywa’s submission, what he meant was a classic not a hit song. In my submission the popularity of the song rather makes it a hit. Once majority of the people love it, it becomes a hit song.

There are great songs which don’t make the news but gradually grows in your heart and over time becomes a good song but they don’t enjoy the attention hit songs get. They become hit songs eventually but ultimately they become classics. A hit song is song that burst out and get all the attention.” 

The road to superstardom isn’t easy.

Ghanaian actress, Gifty Adrah talks about some of the challenges she faced pursuing acting. Furthermore, she talks about how she became the popular actress she is today.

Moreover, according to her she had to choose between having sex with a producer or paying for a role. Also, she explained that these ‘money na hand, the role assigned’ movie producers weren’t paying her. This was even after the movie comes out. Furthermore, they claimed she was an underground actress.

Actress Gifty Adrah on acting journey and paying for roles

“The journey has not been easy. You know nothing good comes easily. I sometimes go for auditions and you will have to pay them before you get a role and sometimes you will be asked to sleep with them, which never happened.

But so far, I can say the journey has been great, it has challenged me in so many ways.

From the beginning, it wasn’t financially rewarding because I had to be paying for someone to cast me but as it is now I don’t need to pay but rather I get paid for it.

But when we talk about the passion the money matters don’t really count because my talent will pave way for me and I’m happy I get to eat from my talent.”

Fiifi Banson opens up about his experiences.

Veteran Ghanaian broadcaster, Fiifi Banson recounts the tale of a broken heart. Furthermore, he stated that he suffered a break-up so bad that he was virtually bed ridden for three weeks.

According to him, to this day doesn’t know the reason why the lady broke it off with him. However, having his heart broken in such a manner left him in tatters.

After the break-up, Fiifi said he could not work or do anything else for three weeks, instead weeping uncontrollably in his room.

Feli Nuna talks about performances.

Ghanaian afrobeat female artiste, Feli stated that her worst stage performance was at Sarkodie’s Rapperholic Concert in 2017. Furthermore, the artiste is a signee of Bee Hyve entertainment. Her real name is Felicia Nuna Akosua Tawiah.

Feli Nuna talks about Rapperholic stage performance

“I had my worst flop at Sarkodie’s rapperholic in December 2017. Sarkodie called and said he wanted us (Freda Rhymes, Eno and I ) to do 16 bars each rap song for performance on the night.

I ended writing and recording my part that 25th morning …… So I had to memorize before the show, I had several engagements that day….. I went on stage and I forgot my lyrics, no one realized it”.

Nana Boroo explains his lightened skin.

Social media trolled Ghanaian Hiplife artiste, Nana Boroo. Furthermore, this was after he appeared at John Dumelo’s traditional marriage looking significantly lighter. Moreover, a lot of people believed that he bleached his skin to look like a white man. Also, others described him as Michael Jackson.

Nana Boroo on skin lightening rumours

“I have not bleached. Anyone who knows me and is close to me will testify that in my family, we are light skinned.

And you know being fair is expensive, it is not easy, it comes with its own issues. I should be able to take care of myself and get my complexion right but that does not mean I apply bleaching creams.

I just got back from the United States after staying there for a long time so you know, the weather and all got my skin looking lighter. It will, however, get back to its normal state after a while”.

Efia talks about herself.

Ghanaian actress, Efia Odo says she is still the same. Furthermore, she says she has no plans to change anything about her style. Currently, she is a co-host on Head Start and The Arena on Kwese Free Sports.

“ My new pictures don’t mean anything. They do not mean I have changed or regret anything about myself. I host a TV show now and the thing is, I cannot wear bikinis to the office so I take photos in what I wear to work.”

It is interesting ohh, please I have not changed. There is nothing to change about me, I am still the bubbly and I -don’t-care- kind of person. It is normal for people to expect that I take on some kind on rebranding just because I have taken up a new role as a TV host but no, I’m still me. The same old Efia Odo.”

However, while Efia Odo, real name Andrea Owusu, insists she will not swap her lifestyle for any other.

Efia disclosed she is happy with where she is now in her life,

“I love what I am doing right now at Kwese TV. I don’t have any formal training in hosting a TV show but I enjoy what I do. I had to learn on the job and the team has also been amazing.”
