Stop Referring To Our Songs As ‘Old School’ – Highlife Legends Warn DJs

Some Highlife legends have cautioned presenter to stop referring to their songs as ‘Old School’.

According to these legends, they are not a bit pleased at how their songs have been classified as ‘Adadamu songs’, to wit old school.

Three of such Highlife Legends who have protested the reference as derogatory include; Abirekyieba Kofi Sammy, Teacher Boateng and Baffour Kyei.

They made this known in interview with Christian Agyei Frimpong, the host of Anigye Mmre – an entertainment talk show on Accra-based Onua 95.1 FM.

Abirekyieba Kofi Sammy, Teacher Boateng and Baffour Kyei protested the reference as derogatory.

Veteran musician, Baffour Kyei, noted that though there has been increase in airplay for indigenous in radio stations dedicating a day for highlife music, “they play for only a few hours”.

“Then, the presenters keep referring to our songs as Adadamu songs,” he said in Twi.

Abirekyieba Kofi Sammy, Yellow Sisi hit maker, on his part said it is about time Ghanaians understood that “highlife music is Ghana and Ghana is highlife music.  So we must endeavor to give highlife music more prominence and stop referring to our songs as Adadamu song”.

‘Oheneba’ hitmaker, Teacher Boateng also appealed to event organizers to include them in their various events.

According to him, when presenters keep referring to their songs as old school, it will not encourage event organizers to include them in their events.

He asked event organizers to include them in their events with the new crop of artistes. This, he believes will help revive highlife music. As well as revive the waning careers of many veteran musicians.

The three musicians expressed gratitude to host, Oyokodehye Kofi, privately known as Eric Owusu Gyimah.

He was crowned the Best High-life DJ of the Year at the 2018 DJ Awards.

Meanwhile, Oyokodehye Kofi had earlier presented his award to Chief Kofi Sammy, Baffour Kyei and Teacher Kofi Boateng.

It was songs by these veteran musicians that earned him this award.

Hence, to show gratitude, he donated undisclosed sums of money as well as hampers and other items to the legends.

I Rejected Ghc50,000 To Compose A Gay Rights Campaign Song In Ghana — Ex Doe

Ex Doe talks about turning down money.

Ghanaian rapper, Ex Doe says a group offered him a whopping amount of Ghc50,000. Furthermore, the money was for him to compose a song for homosexuals in Ghana.

Ex Doe shared his views on homosexuality in an interview with Joy FM’s Lexis Bill

“I was contacted with an amount of 50,000 Ghana Cedis to do a gay rights campaign song for the gay community. I am not gay but I don’t have anything against gay people.

There are prostitutes out there whom some people don’t like but they are there. Let’s leave people to live their lives how they please. God will judge us all at the end.”

Moreover, the rapper stated that he didn’t want to step on anyone’s toes with his views on homosexuality.

“If you asked this question about 5 to ten years ago, the answer would have been ‘No’ but now, unfortunately, as much as we don’t want, the world is evolving, things are changing and everybody is thinking wide and outside the box. As an artiste, I have a lot of things to do and I wouldn’t like to step on toes.”

Stop Insulting Stonebwoy And Support Him – Shatta Wale Tells ‘SM’ Fans

Shatta Wale has been off the headline boards for some days now but looks like he’s back.

This time round, he seems to be for ‘peace’ and with his arch rival, Stonebowy – surprising right!

The Shatta Movement (SM) Boss has issued a directive to all his SM fans to stop ‘insulting’ his label mate and arch rival, Stonebowy.

Charles Nii Armah, aka Shatta Wale’s directive follows trolls from his fans at the BHIM Nation Boss’ alleged ‘poor’ performance in Miami.

Stonebowy, born Livingstone Etse Satekla performed in Miami at the Best Of The Best Reggae Music Festival which happened on Sunday, May 27th.

However, SM fans took to social media to mock and troll the ‘Tomorrow’ hitmaker for being unable to get the audience at the festival dancing and cheering him, when he claims to be a ‘Global artiste’.

The fans of Shatta Wale kept reposting the video of his performance at the music festival and repeatedly mocked him for his inability to get the crowd on their feet.

But Shatta Wale has tackled this issue in a very different and shocking manner, hence his new directive.

The SM President in a Facebook post, urged his fans to support Stonebwoy’s music as they would support his.

“Nobody should insult Stonebwoy on his recent performance ..If his fans won’t support us let’s support him anyhow we can ..GHANAIANS isn’t it ? Let’s educate the Bhims…Shatta movement didn’t start this comparison, they started God knows …Let’s support our own !!! Whoever say shit here BIG F–K YOU…” Shatta Wale maintained.

From his speech, one may conclude that, perhaps, Shatta is ready to bury the hatchet with his long time nemesis and label mate. Or yet still, that he believes it is time to put away the lyrical battle in the industry to push Ghana’s music onto the international map. But seems it’s too early to conclude since Shatta can be unpredictable most of the times.

Some Ghanaian Artistes Are Too Greedy — Kwesi Ernest

Ernest Kwesi comes for Ghanaian artists.

CEO of Media Excel Productions, Ernest Kwesi Ennin slams musicians who leave their record labels with the excuse of establishing their own record labels. Furthermore, he says it doesn’t bode well for the industry.

Moreover, he made these statements to Showbiz yesterday. Also, he sated that the practice smacks of greed and ingratitude on the part of the artistes.

Kwesi Ernest on record labels and Ghanaian artists

“Musicians want to see themselves on television and see their works promoted. However, they don’t stop for a second to check how much money goes into all of that. That is why when they leave, their careers take a downward turn.

What is causing this pandemic? We keep losing big talents, big musicians and it is becoming a worry for the industry. It is ugly and distasteful to walk away from your winning team.”

Furthermore, according to Ernest, there are countless examples of artistes whose careers suffered after they left the record labels that brought them into the limelight.

“Cwesi Oteng became huge under BBnZ, after the record label had made him successful, he went his way and he has dropped ever since, Erico of Mentor fame accused Bandex of spending his money and never became big after that.

Joyce Blessing was doing great with Media Excel and now that she has found her way to Zylofon, she has released about three albums and she is still not doing well.

Wutah finally had to come back together and with Praye, you should see the euphoria in the auditorium when they came on stage at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, they don’t need anybody to advise them to come back together.”

Moreover, he said sometimes external pressures contribute to some artists leaving their record labels.

“Family, lovers, concubines, radio presenters and other industry people will call the artiste and say, ‘your manager is not doing well, how much have you got? Has he bought you a car?’ The artiste tends to believe the industry person and the next thing you know, he or she is on her/his way out.”

Another factor for the increase in this practice in Kwesi Ernest’s view is contractual obligations.

“Most of the musicians don’t understand what they sign. Often times, they are anxious to become a hit so they don’t care what goes into the contract. When they leave, they leave without hundreds of thousands of fans and they are burdened with having to build their own fanbase.

Most of our Gospel musicians have gone through this with. Most of them say that their husbands want to manage them. Cecilia Marfo for instance, was doing so well till her husband pops up and says, I want to manage my wife and in the process she lost everything.”

Ten(10) Crucial Things One Must Do Before Turning 30

Life needs to be more than just work and that can include so many wonderful things. You should feel alive instead of feeling dead and tired already when you are under 30. It could be going on a bike trip to Ladakh with your friends or go trekking in the Himalayas, the choice is yours.

Here are a few options that you should definitely explore before hitting the big 30.

1. Invest time in education as it is a lifetime pursuit

You do not stop learning after you graduate. As a matter of fact, you face more sophisticated problems in life after you graduate. So you need to keep learning.

2. Invest in your body

Hire a proper, certified trainer who can teach you exercising techniques. Most people keep doing it wrong and finally abandon the process when they do not see the results. How can you get results when you are doing it wrong? Instead, get someone who can show you how it’s done.

3. Learn a new language

Learning a new language sharpens your mind. It makes you understand people much better and know how to relate with them.

4. Date widely & wisely

Love, at first sight, is a very rare phenomenon. Isn’t it? Finding the ‘right’ mate does not go well without making a few trials and errors.

5. Meditate

10 minutes of meditation a day is enough to keep you going for the day. Meditation cleanses your mind and helps you to enjoy the present. If you are a beginner and want to learn how to meditate, Headspace app is the right deal for you. It allows users to practice meditation and mindfulness through daily exercises.

6. Set up an automatic saving and investment account

Who does not wish to be financially independent? Make sure you start saving for life they say begins at thirty. Not forgetting retirement at 60, it’s just some few years away. Invest and do so wisely.

7. Do more things that scare you

Do things that are scary for you. Remember, what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger. If you fear to be on stage, then join a club to learn public speaking. If you are an introvert, go and network with people attending different events in your city.

8. Choose wisely with whom you spend your time

There is a scientific reason why extraordinary people stand apart from the crowd and prefer surrounding themselves with others who think like them and avoid the mediocre.

9. Read like a maniac

Read fiction, non fiction, just read anything you get your hands on. This way you will become an avid reader. Warren Buffett reads for 5 to 6 hours daily. Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg read like a maniac and you can see for yourself how successful they are.

Knowledge pays dividends that cannot be lost.

10. Take action

More than anything else on this list, is this point. Do not overthink and just do it. Yes, that is it. Just taking a concrete step is the most important part. All talk and no action is worth nothing in life, if you do not work hard and smart to achieve your goals.
