Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament Is Deluded Over His Anti-gay Sentiments – UN

Mike Ocquaye makes his stance clear.

Speaker of Parliament, Mike Ocquaye declared that member of parliament are against homosexuality. Furthermore, his comments came after Nana Addo had an interview about the same issue.

Moreover, he stated that the public that elected them and therefore Ghanaians should rest assured that they were never going to legalize homosexuality under any circumstances.

However, his response didn’t go down well with the UN. Therefore, they’ve their response. The United Nation’s Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty and Human Rights, Prof. Philip Alston made his comments in an interview. Furthermore, he undertook a Human Rights fact-finding visit to Ghana to assess government efforts to eradicating poverty.

Prof. Alston said Prof. Oquaye’s comment is a sign of delusion because the number of gay people in Ghana is quite significant.

“I believe that if he thinks there is not a very significant proportion of gay people in Ghana, he is deluding himself. You cannot wish away a physical fact. The percentage of gay people in any population is significant… I don’t think it is appropriate for politicians to publicly align themselves with hateful positions against any other population…I think if he comes out and says that people with a certain kind of sexual orientation are not allowed to be themselves in this country that is equally unacceptable, that is what human rights are all about.”

Becoming An Artiste Has Given Me More Recognition Than Producing – Magnom

Ghanaian record producer cum artiste, Magnom says he has gained more recognition from being an artiste than producing.

According to him, the artistes he was working with were not ready to release their songs. As a result, he wasn’t getting recognition for his works.

“I was working with a lot of artistes but they were not ready to release their songs and that way I was not getting recognition for my work, ”he told 3news.com.

Born Joseph Bulley, he switched to being an artiste in 2017 with his hit song ‘My baby’. He is noted for works such as Sarkodie’s hit song ‘Illuminati’ and Edem’s ‘Koene’

His ‘Baby’ song has been making waves since its release. It even got three nominations at the recently held Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

Magnom noted that recording a song with beats he created himself, allows him to present the beat better instead of having another artiste work with it.

“I just wanted to have control over my beats because you can have an idea for a beat, and no artiste will be in agreement,” he stated.

According to him, there was a point in time where a lot of the artistes he was working with were not ready to release songs. He added that this however  limited him as his production was not out there as often as he wanted.

“Everyone has their own timetable they are working with so you can’t push someone to put out a song if they don’t want to.”

Magnom noted that recording his own music is a way to put out the kind of beats he likes.

Asked between producing and singing which one would he choose, Magnom stated that he prefers his artiste role.

“Being an artiste is new to me, so I am kind of enjoying that now. It has added another avenue for me to make money. I think I will pick the singing for now,” Magnom stated.

VGMAs Killing Musician’s Career – Gospel Musician

The VGMA’s are over. However, people still have qualms about it.

A lot of people keep questioning the credibility of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. Furthermore, a gospel musician, Bra Paul of Tetelestai fame has some frustrations with the awards.

Moreover, the artiste accused Charter House of killing and frustrating talents in Ghana. According to him, VGMA is the most enviable award scheme in Ghana. However, it has contributed massively to the collapse of artistes’ careers over the years.

Bra Paul about VGMA leading to collapse

“I commend Charter House for a successful event once again. But, I believe they are doing the opposite of their aim. This is to reward and encourage musicians to work hard in order to put the Ghanaian music on international platforms. I am a concerned musician and I can’t just keep mute on some of this issues.

Though I am not a secular artiste, I don’t think I would be encouraged to do more if I was Medikal who after being nominated in about seven different categories but won none. The mockery he had after the awards alone can deter him.

Take Patapaa and wutah last year, which songs were bigger than theirs in the category they found themselves? Why this frustration VGMA?

Many musicians have given up on their careers after an award scheme(VGMA) which should be rewarding efforts failed to recognize them, this alone is frustrating.

In fact, I was shocked last Saturday with some of the results I heard, this is Just not fair to some of our hard working musicians. It’s about time we set up our own award’s scheme as gospel musicians because the kind of treatment we get every year is just uncalled for. They always bench us together with these secular acts in the same category and in the end, give all the awards the secular artistes creating the impression that, gospel musicians are just lazy.

More on his comments

In the year under review, my song (Tetelestai) together with Patience Nyarko’s ‘obi nnyani me’ and Akwasi Nyarko’s ‘bo mpae’ made the most waves as gospel songs but in the end, Akwasi Nyarko and myself weren’t nominated and now Patience didn’t win an award? This is shocking.

We are building industry together. However, with such untruthfulness, we will only collapse as an industry and I am very worried about this trend.

The gospel minister further encouraged all musicians not to lose hope anytime they are ‘mafied’ by Charter House.

“I would like to encourage my fellow musicians to not to give up anytime they are denied any award. However, let’s keep working harder and the Lord himself will reward us in the good time.”

Kumi Guitar Says His ‘Dream’ Music Video Is Better Than Captain Planet’s ‘Obi Agye Obi Girl’

Kumi Guitar calls out Captain Planet.

Zylofon Music signee, Kumi Guitar says his music video ‘Dream’ should have won the ‘Best Music Video’ on the night.

Furthermore, he explained that Captain Planet’s ‘Obi Agye Obi Girl’ music video didn’t deserve the award. Moreover, his music video was far better in terms of video quality than ‘Obi Agye Obi Girl’.

Also, Kumi Guitar stated stated that the songwriter of the year award should have be given to him.

“I stood the chance of winning all four categories. However, songwriter and video of the year should have gone to me. I had most legends in the video I shot, we put a lot of effort into it and it came out very well. Compared to all videos in the category, My dream video was the best. However, I don’t know why it went to a different person.

Also with the songwriter, If you study how I wrote the song and how it was arranged, I should have won it. Anybody who first listens to the Dream song will think it is a love song but you will later realise it is about highlife music genre and that is the mark of a good songwriter.

I don’t really know why I didn’t win any of them, maybe it’s because of the votes.”

Strongman Drops ‘Life’ Freestyle Video

Sarkcess Music signed artiste, Storngman has released  a freestyle video tagged ‘Life’ as he earlier promised his fans.

The rapper talks about life from its perspective and how one has to believe in themselves in all they do.

This comes off as a slight spin-off from his main projects after releasing the ‘Baby Girl’ song which featured Kuame Eugene.

Accorded the accolade ‘The Country’s Favorite Wordsmith’, Strongman uses this freestyle to satisfy his long hiatus from hardcore rap with his well-known command over the Twi dialect.

The rapper flows in the usual Twi language to get all music and rap song lovers satisfied. But to spice things up, he   adds English, bits of Fante and pidgin.

Fancy Gadam Should Have Won Artist Of The Year Award — Socrate Sarfo

Socrate Safo offers his two cents.

Controversial movie director, Socrate Sarfo wades into the endless debate from the just ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

Furthermore, the awards has come under debate. This is about the various categories and their winners. Moreover, a lot of people give their opinion on who should have won.

Socrate Safo made his comments to TV Africa’s entertainment desk reporter, Araba Aggrey.

According to the Director of Creative Arts, the Tamale based artiste, Fancy Gadam was his pick for the category of artiste of the year. Moreover, this was due to the definition of the category. Therefore, it should have been Fancy Gadam and not Ebony.

Socrate Safo on Artiste Of the Year winner

“I think that even somebody like Fancy Gadam was robbed of one key category which is the artist if the year. Per the definition of artist of the year… if you look at the definition, Fancy Gadam stands poles apart from all the nominees there.

Can you pin point any of the nominees there including the ultimate winner, Ebony who did half of what he [Fancy Gadam] did?”

However, he congratulated Charter House for a splendid concept. Moreover, he added that it wasn’t rare for any music award show to receive a backlash, critique, criticism or setbacks. Therefore, his comments clearly passes as one of them.

“I think the VGMA is a good concept and it has its own challenges like any award scheme the world over; so its normal when in Ghana we have our VGMA’s and people are not happy, but in the end we are all winners.”

Provide Evidence Of Bribery Or Apologize — Charterhouse To Patapaa

Charter House calls out Pataapa

Charter House, organizers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, called on Patapaa. Furthermore, they want him to apologize for his claim that the board took a bribe to cheat him out of winning the most popular song of the year award.

According to PRO George Quaye, Patapaa should provide evidence of his assertion or apologize to the organization for tarnishing their image.

Moreover, after the VGMAs, Patapaa lashed out at Charterhouse. He claimed they had taken a bribe to give his rightful award to Fancy Gadam.

However, Quaye said the singer should walk back his claim and apologize to Charterhouse.

Charter House telling Pataapa to apologize

“If Patapaa has an evidence of us taking money from any nominee, he should release. Otherwise, he should apologise to the board, academy and the general public for that comment.

We will release the votes very soon so that we all see how everybody performed on the night. It is a very unfortunate statement from him.”

Ebony’s Management Neglected Her – Ebony’s Father

Nana Opoku Kwarteng, father of the late Dancehall musician Ebony Reigns, has been making some shocking revelations after his daughter’s burial.

A few days ago, he revealed that Ebony was molested by Bullet, her manager.

However, today, he’s accusing the whole management team of negligence which has eventually led to the death of his beloved daughter.

According to him, Ebony management team’s failure to monitor her movement was a clear dereliction of duty.

He added that they should have known her location and itinerary at every point in time and should have stopped her from embarking a journey at that late hour.

Ebony, born Priscilla Opoku Kwaerteng died in a road accident on the Kumasi–Sunyani road on February 8. In her company were her driver, her friend, Franky Kuri, and a Military Man, Atsu Vondee, who was said to be her bodyguard.

Unfortunately, all passengers perished when their jeep collided with a VIP bus heading towards Sunyani from Kumasi. Only the driver survived.

After her death, reports later stated that Ebony traveled without the consent of her team management.

But Ebony’s father, Nana Opoku Kwarteng in an interview on Peace FM says he blames the management for not keeping track of her movement.

Nana Opoku maintained that  he’s grateful to Ebony’s management for unearthing her talent and making her a star. However, in his perspective, they woefully failed in doing a good job. He said that his daughter had no right to make that trip without permission from her management.

Ebony’s father’s speech;

“Nana Hemaa (Ebony) traveled very late in the night when Bullet (her manager) was abroad, according to him. A good management team handling a 21 year old super star should have taken good care of her. Somebody should have been with her on that journey, somebody should have corrected her as she shouldn’t have made that journey on her own. That is proper management, Ghanaians take things too easy. There’s more to the word management, I’m not being ungrateful but management should not be only about the music aspect of the artiste.

“When you’re managing someone, the person’s movement and all that concerns her is your concern. You don’t care the strength of that person, you take the decision for the person that’s why you are the manager. You’ve taken her from nowhere and you made her a star, if you’re her manager then your concern couldn’t have been only the music aspect.

“As a father I did my bit, I expected management to do their part. The bit about my daughter embarking on that journey, means someone failed woefully in doing his job, she didn’t have that right to say she was traveling to visit her mother without any management member knowing or accompanying her. Management should have arranged that journey and make sure she was safe.”

7 Types Of Lips And The Personality Traits They Reveal. What’s Yours?

Just like our body shapes and heights, our lips also come in different shapes.

Lipsology is a relatively new pseudoscience that claims a direct relation between the shape of your lips and your personality traits. Jilly Eddy, after studying lip prints for over 3 decades, put forward this theory that had many people nodding along. The following are the most common lip shapes and the personalities their owners possess.

First of all, there are four areas that are important and should be noticed:

1. Wide lips

J Roberts

Wide lips cover a good portion of the lower half of the face. They are usually wide in length and sometimes in breadth.  Such people have an extroverted nature. They are good at making friends and are non-conformists. They have leadership potential and are driven to be perfect.

2. Round lips

These lips are almost circular in shape and are very prominent on the face. Women with these sort of lips are charismatic and have an adventurous streak. People with such lips are usually very confident and also risk-takers; therefore they can reach the heights of success or end up miserable failures.

3. Thin lips

Anushka Sharma

Both the upper and lower lips are thin; they may or may not have a pronounced Cupid’s bow. These lips usually belong to unsocial people who like to stay in control of their situation. They are known to have a high drive to succeed and can be ruthless to get there. They have a soft side that they rarely reveal.

4. Heart-shaped lips

Shraddha Kapoor

With a pronounced Cupid’s bow and full lower lips, these people are strong willed and independent. Women with this kind of lips are passionate and even glamorous. Heart-shaped lips reveal an artistic, creative, intelligent and energetic personality. These people are often very witty.

5. Full lips

Angelina Jolie

These lips are noticeable for their thickness much like round lips; however, they have a more prominent lip shape and aren’t merely round. These lips show a compassionate and helpful personality. These people are strong and competent. They make good friends and great parents.

6. Goldilocks lips

Kareena Kapoor

These lips are neither too thin nor too thick; they don’t have a very pronounced Cupid’s bow either. People with these lips are considered to be very undemanding and level-heading. They are rational beings who are considerate of other’s feelings and make good life partners.

7. Plump center

Priyanka Chopra

These lips are more thick and full at the center, specially on the upper lip. Such people are natural performers and enjoy being the center of attention. They are very dramatic and their relationships suffer many ups and downs. Women with these lips like being constantly pampered.

PHOTOS: 4 Celebrities Who Went ‘Braless’ To The 2018 VGMAs

Events like the just ended Vodafone sponsored Ghana Music Awards have always been an occasion to look forward to.

One thing most people cannot afford to miss about such events are the ‘Red Carpet’ sessions.

The ‘Red Carpet’ seeion is where celebrities get to exhibit their apparels for the night. It usually precedes the main event.

This year’s VGMAs has come to a successful end with the ‘wows’ and ‘oops.’ We saw our celebrities display their apparels for the night. Majority decided to go the foreign way with their dresses. A few however, were spotted in beautifully designed Ghanaian Kente cloths.

As usual, the men were classically simple and dashing. The women too were, but we all know women cannot afford to be ‘simple’ no matter how much they may try. Some did their best to but became the ‘toast’ for the year.

One thing that we couldn’t miss about some of our female celebrities were their their ‘side attractions’- b**bs. You can’t blame us too much, after all, that’s one part of women that can never go unnoticed.

There were some who covered theirs from the prying eyes of the public. Others too decided to show their cleavages. A few also went ‘braless’ as well. So we’re concentrating on those that went ‘braless’

What do I mean by ‘braless?’ Ok, they were not in brassieres. It seems our female celebrities are gradually accepting and becoming comfortable with the whole ‘braless’ thing.

We spotted a few of them, with their b**bs on and glorifying their dresses.

We Are Worth Celebrating – Reggie Rockstone On VVIP@20

Hiplife/Hiphop group, VVIP, formerly VIP is a group that has really come far. Looking at their consistency and other achievements, they can best be recommended as the group that fits to be called ambassadors for our music industry.

VVIP is a good example of brotherly love and unity because, not every music group in Ghana has made it this far.

It has given us some of the biggest hits in the country, has stood strong in the face of exits by some group members and still retains relevance in the industry.

For these and many more reasons, as the group turns 20-years, Hiplife Grandpapa, Reggie Rockstone believes they are worth celebrating.

VVIP

Reggie Rockstone became a member of the honorable group in 2013. His addition, led to the name change from VIP to VVIP.

“I am happy to be alive and part of a group I have seen grow from strength to strength. This group started from scratch and has been able to hold the fort till now,” Rockstone told Showbiz in an interview on Tuesday.

According to him, VVIP has a very inspirational story, especially coming from a place like Nima where no one expected anything good from them. He added thathis support to the group is not because he’s now a member but would have done that even if he wasn’t.

“If even I was not part of the group, I would still have supported wholeheartedly. I feel proud of them and I think they are worthy of a documentary or a movie telling a story of how they started and their future plans.

The new Hiplife artistes can learn a lot of stuff from this group I have personally admired. There is more we have up our sleeves and we want Ghanaians to watch out for us,” he said.

In a personal testimony, Rockstone told Showbiz joining VVIP has been one of the greatest things to ever happen to him. The group has released hit songs like ‘Selfie’, ‘Skolom’, ‘Dogo Yaro’, ‘Koliko’ among others since Reggie became a member.

He maintains that he had admired the group from afar. Hence, he did not hesitate to join in spite of the negative comments people made.

“Reggie as an addition to VVIP is like bringing together Daddy Lumba and Amakye Dede and evidence why the group is always moving forward,” he said.

According to VVIP, on the 20th anniversary, another member, Zeal, will mount a huge stage at a concert that will celebrate their achievements and also thank Ghanaians for their support over the years.

VIP

He said that the concert will be launched on April 27 at Holiday Inn Hotel.

“The VVIP group made up of Zeal, Prodigal and Reggie has a lot coming up. And very soon Ghanaians are going to experience it,” Zeal told Showbiz.

Initially known as VIP, the group started with other members like Friction and Promzy. However, they later left to pursue other interest.

Indeed, the group has come a long way and its name will be written in gold in Ghanaian music history. It surely is worthy to be celebrated.

Kiki Banson to manage reunited Praye

Praye is back together with a new manager.

Hiplife trio, Praye are back together. Furthermore, this is after years of a split between the group.

Moreover, they have a new manager. The manager is Kiki Banson who used to manage Becca.

Also, the group performed together at the VGMA.

Moreover, Choirmaster, a member of the group made some statements to Citi FM’s Kwame Dadzie on Celebrity Radar.

He stated that the group is back for good.

Praye’s reunion with new manager, Kiki Banson

“We’ve resolved our issues. There is no confusion anymore. We are ready to play as a group and I have always said that when there is that opportunity to perform with my former group, I don’t see anything wrong with that. I know there are a lot of opportunities to follow what we did at the VGMAs.

My manager, the manager of the other team in addition to Kiki Banson who is fronting the whole thing, have really helped in making this happen.

For now, we are working with Kiki Banson, Jerry Bonsu and another person. They are three.”

The group’s performance at the music awards was filled with super excitement and nostalgia as they thrill music fans to their old hit songs.

Background

The Praye group comprises of Choirmaster, Kente and Big J Cartel. The group was formed in 2004 after they emerged winners of the maiden edition of the Nescafe African Revelations talent hunt.

They produced hit songs such as ‘Shordy,’ ‘Angela,’ ‘Jacket’, among others.

In 2014, members of the group went their separate ways but two of them (Kente and Big J) came back later to keep the group.
