5 Foods That Make Menstrual Cramps Worse

Eating right is important in our everyday lives. However, it is most important during one’s menstrual period. You cannot choose to eat anything and everything without suffering the consequences. Below are foods to avoid in order minimise cramps and pain.

Salty Foods

During menstruation, there will be instances of bloating and water retention. To alleviate some the discomfort you can lower sodium intake. High-sodium foods can increase already existing bloating and discomfort, so try to stay away from foods like chips, french fries, and canned foods.

Coffee

Caffeine is a vasco-constrictor. It makes blood vessels constrict and may cause the vessels that feed the uterus to tighten. If you need a boost of energy to get you through the day, try switching to tea for the first few days of your period, as it contains less caffeine, therefore having a minimal effect on cramping and bloating.

Fatty Meats

Many heavy meats are high in saturated fats, which can worsen period pains.Certain fats contains arachidonic acid, which produces prostaglandins that can cause uterine contractions and cramping. Eating a diet high in saturated fat during the first few days of your period can lead to bloating, breast tenderness and breakouts.

Processed Foods

Trans fats, also known as hydrogenated oils, are found in junk foods such as french fries, packaged foods and desserts, and they can worsen your period symptoms. These detrimental fats cause inflammation in the body, and can worsen pains you already experience while menstruating.

Sugar

Blood sugar fluctuates during menstruation. By consuming more of the sweetener, you’re only adding fuel to the fire by letting blood sugar levels rise and drop drastically. If you’re having an insatiable craving for something sweet, try eating some natural sugars such as figs or dates, which keep your blood sugar levels more stable.

5 Foods To Eat To Ease Menstrual Cramps

Periods are no fun especially when cramps set in. Its accompaniment mood swings and low energy are just a few of the annoying symptoms. However, there are certain foods you can eat to alleviate the pain that comes with monthly menstrual cycle.

Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate is high in antioxidants and magnesium to help ease cramps and mood swings. It also stimulates the production of endorphins, otherwise known as “happy hormones” that keep you calm and cheery. Just remember: the darker the better.

Bananas

High in potassium and vitamin B6, bananas ease bloating and help your muscles relax (including your uterus!). Getting enough potassium also helps to regulate blood pressure and send oxygen to your brain – all useful in keeping your mood in check!

Yoghurt

Chow down yogurt, a hearty source of calcium. The good bacteria cultures in yogurt also promote healthy digestion to soothe tummy troubles during that time of the month.

Salmon

Salmon is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, which play an important role in relaxing your muscles and steadying your nerves. This will help to deal with cramps and crankiness.

Water

This one may feel counterproductive. Drinking more water will help your body release water retention and alleviate bloating. “Your body is retaining water because it’s afraid of not getting enough. So, if you give it what it needs, more water, it will release the water it’s holding onto.”

Counselor Lutterodt was reacting to Yvonne Nelson’s motherhood. He stated that, traditionally, women who have kids out of wedlock are described as stupid and being taken advantage of by the men who impregnated them.

Also, he stated that there was no excuse no excuse for any woman to have a baby when she is not married. He stated that such pregnancies, culturally are described as ‘stupid’. Therefore, the children who come out of it are deemed as stupid.

Don’t Rush To Get Hit Songs That Can’t Stand The Test Of Time- Akwaboah Junior

Ghanaian prolific songwriter, singer and music producer, Gladstorm Kwabena Akwaboah  Junior, who is a signee under Sarkcess Music has clearly stated that Ghanaian musicians should take their time to produce good songs, but shouldn’t rush to get hit songs that can’t stand the test of time.

According to him,  good music takes time in terms of production, but it will also last long with the people even when you are no more, so that’s why he is taking his time to do a good song that will speak to the soul and also project Ghanaian music to the world, he said in an interview with www.flexgh.com.

Akwaboah is on the same page with some old musicians who think the current crop of artistes do not do good songs that will last long and can promote Ghana as it should be. He believes the current crop of songs is of low content.

“Some of the songs we have out there are out of low standard. But some of them are of quality and projecting Ghana to the world.

Akwaboah is also looking forward to releasing his first album under Sarkcess Music titled ‘matters of the heart’. The album, he said, talks about love, relationship and issues facing people in the societies. He isof a strong believe that this album will have impact in the music industry both local and international.

Akwaboah, is known for his prolific talent not only in singing but also in writing songs for some top artistes in Ghana both in the secular and gospel aspects including the likes of Becca and ASP Kofi Sarpong. He also had a major influence on Sarkodie’s fourth album, Mary.

He further stated that Ghanaians should have patience with him not getting a hit song under Sarkcess Music, because no one thinks about his music career more than Sarkodie, so he believes it is just a matter of time and hard work that will on his part.

He continued by saying that every musician or artiste should not force themselves to be signed by any record label because of money. ‘’Even though they are into business, they should rather think of how helpful the record label will be to their music career and brand.

He quickly added that Ghana music industry is growing but some Ghanaian musicians need to learn to perform live with a band. This effort, he believes would make people appreciate Ghanaian music and also help Ghanaian musicians win more awards internationally.

6 Health Benefits Of Drinking Aloe Vera Juice

Aloe vera is a plant species of the genus Aloe. It grows wild in tropical climates around the world and is cultivated for agricultural and medicinal uses. Aloe is also used for decorative purposes and grows successfully indoors as a potted plant.

Aloe vera juice is made by crushing or grinding the entire leaf of the aloe vera plant, followed by various steps to purify and filter the liquid. With a mild, tolerable flavor, the juice mixes easily into smoothies and shakes. This makes aloe vera juice a practical whole food supplement.

Aloe vera juice is a gooey, thick liquid made from the flesh of the aloe vera plant leaf. It’s commonly known to treat sunburns. But drinking this healthy elixir in juice form provides you with a number of other health benefits.

But for health sake, we’ll like to highlight on the side effects of aloe vera juice first;

*Decolorized (purified, low anthraquinone) whole leaf aloe vera is considered safe. A recent study in mice fed various concentrations of purified aloe vera for three months, in fact, showed no adverse effects at all from the juice.

Colored vs. decolorized juice

On the other hand, nondecolorized, unpurified aloe vera juice can have many unpleasant side effects, including:

  • diarrhea
  • cramping
  • colon adenomas (benign tumors)
  • colon cancer after long-term use (rare)

Researchers have concluded that the side effects caused by unpurified aloe vera juice are a result of the presence of anthraquinone, which is considered a laxative. Though anthraquinone is an organic compound naturally found in the leaf of the aloe vera plant, it’s considered toxic and should be avoided.

Studies show that purified and decolorized juice is a safer option when compared to colored aloe vera. We therefore advice to look for the following statements on the label when shopping for the gel:

  • purified
  • decolorized
  • organic
  • safety tested

*Drug interactions with aloe vera juice

Aloe juice has been shown to interact with certain medications. If you are taking any drug that is considered a substrate of Cytochrome P450 3A4 and CYP2D6, do not drink aloe vera juice. Aloe vera juice may increase the risk of side effects of these drugs.

Aloe may also add to the effects of sevoflurane, causing excessive bleeding during surgery. If you are taking sevoflurane, check with your doctor before drinking aloe juice.

*How much sugar is in aloe juice?

Unlike most juices, a 4-ounce serving of aloe vera juice contains no sugar and only a few calories. If you’re watching your sugar intake, aloe vera juice is a healthy choice.

*Where to find aloe vera juice

Since aloe can be grown as a potted plant, it can be planted in pots and kept home or yet still planted to serve as decorations in the house. In this case, you can get fresh juice by just pucking from your pot at home. Aloe vera juice can also be purchased online or in most health food markets. When shopping for aloe vera juice, it’s important to consider the quality of the product.

Look for organic, pure, and 100 percent aloe juice. It’s important to drink pure aloe vera juice rather than a blend that has fillers. Read the label carefully.

The following are 6 health benefits of drinking aloe vera juice:

1.Heartburn Relief

Drinking aloe vera juice may give you relief when heartburn attacks. The compounds present in aloe vera juice help control secretion of acid in your stomach. The effects have even been shown to combat gastric ulcers and keep them from getting larger.

2.Nutritious Boost

Aloe vera juice is jam-packed with nutrients. Drinking it is an excellent way to make sure you don’t become deficient. It contains important vitamins and minerals like vitamins B, C, E, and folic acid.  It also contains small amounts of:

  • calcium
  • copper
  • chromium
  • sodium
  • selenium
  • magnesium
  • potassium
  • manganese
  • zinc

Aloe vera is one of the only plant sources of vitamin B-12, too. This is excellent news for vegetarians and vegans. Keeping your food and drink intake nutrient-rich is key in combating most preventable diseases.

3.For Constipation

Drinking aloe vera juice helps increase the water content in your intestines. Research has shown the relationship between increasing the intestinal water content and the stimulation of peristalsis, which helps you pass stool normally.

If you’re constipated or have problems with frequent constipation, try incorporating aloe vera juice into your daily routine. Aloe also helps normalize the healthy bacteria in your gut, keeping your healthy intestinal flora balanced.

4. Hydration

The aloe plant is very water-dense, so it’s an ideal way to prevent or treat dehydration. Staying hydrated helps your body detox by providing a way for you to purge and flush out impurities. The juice also packs a hefty punch of nutrients that optimize your body’s organ output.

This is crucial, because your kidneys and liver are largely responsible for the task of detoxifying your blood and producing urine. For this reason, you need to keep them healthy. Recovery from heavy exercise also requires rehydration through the intake of extra fluids. Your body requires more fluids in order to flush and rid itself of the lactic acid buildup from exercising. Try aloe vera juice instead of coconut water after your next hard workout.

5.Beauty Hacks

Keeping aloe vera juice on hand can also be good for a number of beauty and health needs.

Try using it for the following:

  • makeup primer (apply before foundation)
  • makeup remover
  • sunburn soother
  • lightweight moisturizer
  • treatment for irritated scalp (mix in a few drops of peppermint oil)

6.Liver Function

When it comes to detoxing, healthy liver function is key. Aloe vera juice is an excellent way to keep your liver healthy. That’s because the liver functions best when the body is adequately nourished and hydrated. Aloe vera juice is ideal for the liver because it’s hydrating and rich in phytonutrients.

For a health boost, drink up to 8 ounces of aloe vera juice per day. You can pour it over ice, mix it in with your smoothie or favorite juice, or just drink it from the bottle.

Sarkodie

He is currently the most awarded rapper in the whole Africa. He is our biggest import in music.

Becca

She recently celebrated 10 years in the music industry. This shows her consistency in the industry.

John Dumelo

Hear me out? We all know he campaigned for the NDC. However, this can be a way to bridge the gap between political parties.

The Four Human Temperaments- Check Out Which One You Belong To

Temperament refers to the characteristics and aspects of personality that we are born with. For this reason, they are similar to traits in that they are both innate (born with these things) and enduring. Infants who are anxious and nervous tend to be the same way when they are older.

Basically, the human temperament is divided into four types, namely, Choleric, Sanguine, Melancholic and Phlegmatic.

Four temperaments is a proto-psycological theory that suggests that there are four fundamental personality types, sanguine (enthusiastic, active, and social), choleric (short-tempered, fast, or irritable), melancholic (analytical, wise, and quiet), and phlegmatic (relaxed and peaceful). Most formulations include the possibility of mixtures of the types where individual share two or more temperaments.

Choleric

Choleric personality temperament is associated with testosterone and although every temperamental makeup is represented by members of both sexes, most choleric people are men.

Generally Cholerics are money-oriented people – they are fascinated by stocks, investments, money markets and all kinds of revenue generation methods, just like others are fascinated by art and poetry. These people are very practical and they make for naturally gifted businessmen. Constantly looking for opportunities and always working on themselves, they build successful businesses that thrive and benefit others.

This doesn’t mean that these people are greedy for money, by any means! From their perspective, work is considered to be fun. However, they never do well in subordinate position – they are all about independence, financially and otherwise.

Women of this type are very rare, but strangely enough are very popular people that, quite simply, have very different ways of dealing with issues. They can and do frustrate their partners by being unavailable, but this is exactly what makes them so desirable. They wouldn’t make mistake most other women do, for example, when they smother their partners with love eventually repelling them.

This type of people is very analytical and logical. These people are kings and queens of figuring out things. High testosterone activity in these men and women makes them straightforward and generally, they don’t strive to be polite, respectful or friendly – they do stuff according to what is convenient to them and, most importantly, is in line with their goals. Wasting words and repeating the obvious seem pointless to them. Forcing them to do so is a surefire way to annoy them!

Sanguine

The Sanguine temperament personality is affected by chemical called dopamine, which makes these people intensely curious and creative. Their curiosity can be expressed in their love for reading and different kinds of knowledge and they usually possess high amounts of energy, so they may seem restless and spontaneous.

This type of personality loves the life of luxury; they like to impress others by their expensive clothes, designer accessories and sport cars. If choleric people thrive on money-making process itself, sanguine people know how to enjoy money, luxury and comfort like nobody else.

They are big spenders and when given the ability to have anything they want, they will travel the world staying in splendid hotels, enjoying exciting safaris and luxury cruises; deriving full happiness and pleasure from their wealth.

They will indulge in their rich, comfortable and sumptuous living effectively ignoring world problems and crises.

People with sanguine personality adapt easily and generally can play many roles – buoyant, lively and optimistic, and they have the ability to absolutely charm the pants off anyone that seeks their attention. Their need for variety and luxury explains why they prefer to live in big cities where they can satisfy their desires much easier.

Sanguine people are very poor at tolerating boredom. Routine jobs, repetitive experiences and boring companions annoy and irritate them, and for the most part, they will try to avoid routine and monotony at all costs. In actual fact, they love and thrive on interruptions because they get energized during these small changes in course.

Phlegmatic

People with phlegmatic personality are unassuming, agreeable and intuitive and they possess the ability of “web thinking”, i.e. to see the relationship between many bits of data they collect.

Phlegmatic Skills

They have a wonderful skill to gather the facts, classify them into categories, and then see the relationship between seemingly contradicting elements. Basically, it is the ability to read between the lines. These men and women don’t do very well at memorizing separate unrelated facts, they grow bored and annoyed and to be excited by the process, they need to be able to generalize.

It’s all about the estrogen!

Phlegmatic personality traits are linked to estrogen, which is present in both men and women. However, phlegmatic people are predominantly females. The two hemispheres of the brain are connected by millions of nerve fibers, and estrogen builds more nerve connections between the remote areas within each hemisphere, in turn, this assists the ability of “seeing a bigger picture” or “web thinking”.

– These people are imaginative – they like to think abstractly about the things that only can be imagined. For example, they will try to read your body language and tell you what you were thinking from your half smile.

– The Phlegmatic person will want to know other people’s deepest feelings and strive to build intimate attachments with about everyone in their lives. They are interested in cooperation and interpersonal harmony, and this is why they preserve their family ties and friendships. When there is a conflict, they seek to agree, to satisfy the needs of everyone involved.

– These men and women are very empathetic and compassionate. They try to understand what the other person is thinking and feeling, then to respond accordingly, which allows them to connect with that person. Moreover, people with phlegmatic personality are agreeable.

– They could be described as cooperative, considerate, charitable, sympathetic, trusting and warm. They like to express their feelings, sometimes dramatizing their experience (another evidence of high estrogen activity).

– Phlegmatic men and women seek to contribute to society at large. They strive to fight cancer, donate to orphanages and help the poor and more than that, they also strive to a greater self-knowledge which they see as a must.

On the negative side, people with a phlegmatic personality can be indecisive, unable to focus on important details while ruminating on the bigger picture. Their talkativeness can be annoying and because they seek for a connection, they may appear needy, constantly demanding reassurance.

While trying to understand you, they also may assume that you see and feel the world the same way they do. They might take criticisms as an insult and pout for days, weeks and months and finally, they are very prone to depression.

Melancholic

Men and women with melancholic personality share many traits – they tend to be loyal to their family and friends and extremely careful. Respectability and moral issues are particularly important to them and they will often love to follow typical “norms” of society and family traditions.

They are respectful to authority, follow rules and feel comfortable in hierarchies, where structure, rules and order are implemented. It is important for them to feel themselves a part of the larger community. They see their loyalty to it as a duty.

Melancholic personality traits are associated with serotonin, which suppresses aggressive tendencies. This explains why melancholic people are calm and self-confident, deeply attached to their family and community and loyal. As it was mentioned, they are very orderly and don’t like unpredictability – they enjoy making definite plans and keeping schedules. They love routines, which they find relaxing and this should not come as a big surprise – any repetitive motion increases serotonin levels. It is relaxing in its nature, but nobody enjoys it more than a melancholic!

These people pay attention to details:

  • They remember special dates, anniversaries and events
  • They will remember details about their neighbors and colleagues.

Family and social ties are not seen by melancholics as something that limits their freedom and flexibility, as this could be with a sanguine or a choleric. In fact, to them these are safety nets, kind of a soft place to fall but in a much grander scale. It is also something that adds meaning to their life. Since society and family ties are such an important part of their daily lifestyles and routines, they absolutely can’t see themselves without it. Take this part away from them and they will be devastated. This is why the melancholic temperament personality is not likely to be somebody who would marry a foreigner or leave to another country for permanent residence.

Melancholics need to be orderly even in their speech – they will express themselves precisely, accurately, providing all of the relevant information and if you interrupt them or ask them a question they will think you are not interested in what they are talking about.

Unlike the Sanguine personality temperament, they hate distractions and get frustrated by them. If you want to impress them don’t talk about your big ideas, instead give them precise information and stick to details. Their need for order is expressed even in their jokes – they won’t be a fan of nonsense humor or unresolved humor, their jokes reflect order, predictability and closure.

Melancholics are persistent and patient. They don’t get bored easily and excel at tasks that require attention and repetition. Interestingly, repetitive actions raise levels of serotonin even more and this is why some people repeat one and the same action over and over when they are anxious, like checking to see if the door is closed well or if they turned off the stove or re-checking their suitcase before going to the vacation. Sadly a misbalanced melancholic personality temperament is most susceptible to OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder), where a person engages meaningless rituals, like counting, washing hands or excessive cleaning in order to prevent some disaster he imagines. Some of them may suffer in a less obvious way, but probably the hardest – ruminating over and over about the same thought and rethinking it hundreds, if not thousands of times each and every day.

These people do excellent managers and administrators because they follow the rules, stick to the facts, they are reliable and maintain the social ties. They are superb at managing people whether it is at work or at home. One of their strongest needs is the need to belong and this is why they want to be reliable, respectable and charitable. Their emotional well-being depends on their social networks.

Melancholics are proud of their accomplishments – they will display their trophies, medals, diplomas, certificates and photos with influential people. Generally, they want to do the things in an accepted way; they prefer to plan things in advance and to know ahead of the time what they are going to do.

On the negative side, people with a melancholic personality temperament may become close-minded, dogmatic and stubborn. They also tend to turn to pessimism which may turn into fatalism, believing that nothing will ever change for better. Sometimes they get overly critical, judgmental, expressing their own moral superiority.

Their frugality may turn into stinginess. As well as this, some melancholics can become fixated on the past, where they ruminate for hours how their life would be if they did or choose something else in the past. Also they may have difficulty with stopping what they are doing, so hoarding is often a very common problem.

Note however, that most people are actually a mix of several personality temperament types that make them much more flexible. In geometrical shapes the particular favorites of melancholics are pyramids.

First Date No No’s For Females

Going on a first date can be nerve wracking. The idea of it makes a lot of people break out in cold sweat. And for females, it can be more nauseating, especially trying to figure out what to wear and how to act. However, it does not have to be this way. This list is a simple guidelines on the things girls must not do on their first date.

Don’t Use Social Media The Whole Time

We are aware that you want to Snap the food and the restaurant. However, don’t spend the whole first date on your phone updating your social media. The act of obsessively checking your phone every two minutes is a huge no no. There’s nothing more rude than trying to have a conversation with a person who’s constantly stating at a screen.  That’s just weird and you could have stayed hime.

Don’t Wear Things That You Can’t Walk, Eat, Breathe, or Talk in

Obviously, you want to look your best, but a first date isn’t the time to take try new shoes or clothes. The answer is simply because you are not aware of the fit of the dress or shoes just yet. Wear clothes that you’ll be most comfortable in and won’t lead to accidents. Do look nice and sexy however, do not overdo the sexy. Also, wear comfortable shoes that you can walk in.

Don’t Drink Too Much

Don’t be that person. Keep this in mind: Having to be carried home by someone you barely know isn’t fun. Do not use the date as an opportunity to display your lushness. Also, don’t be caught slurring your word due to too much alcohol.  A cocktail or two can be fun and loosen the mood, but know your limits.

Don’t Obsess Over Your Appearance

Who wants to waste precious date time running to bathroom to brush their hair, reapply your lipstick, or check the mirror every half hour? Put as much effort into your appearance as you want before you meet your date, but focus your energy on making solid conversation instead of worrying about how you look.
