Elephant Attacks Tourism Minister

But for the timely intervention of some tour guide, Mrs Catherine Afeku and her entourage escaped an attack of an elephant

The Minister of  Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Catherine Afeku together with her entourage after  visiting the Larabanga Mosque and the Mystic Stone in the West Gonja District proceeded to the Mole National Park, which is one of Ghana’s biggest natural parks. But things took an unexpected turn when the Minister and her entourage were taken hostage by an angry elephant.

For over 30 minutes, the convoy was held hostage and was at the mercy of the elephant that was attracted by a siren from the Minister’s convoy midway through their journey in the park.

After about 30 minutes, a lul which looked like a reprieve proved a hoax when the elephant started chasing the minister and her entourage just as they were about to lave the scene.

The situation was so scary that even the police officers were gripped by fear. One policeman leading the convoy on a motorcade was seen fleeing the scene.

Gripped by fear and panic, some persons could be heard screaming ” it’s coming to us”.

Nayiri NPP Party Office Defaced By Angry Youth

The Regional Youth Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party in Nayiri, the area that houses the paramount Chief of Wa has been defaced with red paints by some angry youth of the area.

According to the perpetrators of the defacing of the NPP party office, the President is endorsing the legitimacy of Naa Fuseini Pelpuo IV, one of the claimants to the chieftaincy title.

The Wa Traditional Area has been engulfed in a chieftaincy dispute for some time now, with three gates laying claim to the stool.

The disgruntled youth embarked on the protest over President Akufo-Addo’s unprecedented visit to the Wa Naa, Naa Fuseini Pelpuo IV, on Wednesday, October 4.

The youth explained that they do not understand why Wa Naa Alhaji Issah Seidu II, whom they say is the legitimate chief and staunch supporter of the NPP, will be treated this way as the party has been using his building for years without any charges as Regional Youth Secretariat.

According to them, the office was donated to the party by the rival chief who is loyal to the NPP, but during the President’s two-day working visit to the area, party leaders led him to visit Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV, whom they claim is in bed with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Wa Naa Alhaji Issah Seidu II told Class FM’s Valentina Ofori Afriyie that: “Traditionally, he was enskinned three years even before the rival chief popped up.”

He said he is “in support of what they did” by defacing the party office however, he is not against the NPP party and has called on the youth not to behave in any unlawful manner however, he is not happy with certain individuals whom he said masterminded the visit to the rival chief for their own selfish interests.

He made it clear that he wants the NPP government to do the right thing and “advise the Regional Chairman to stay away from royal issues because he is not from a royal family”. He further stated that he is peace-loving and waiting for the verdict of the chieftaincy dispute which is already in court, but he is confident of a favourable outcome as he has been installed legitimate chief by traditional authorities and has been discharging his duties efficiently for years.

He explained that it is for the love of the NPP party that the building was given out for use and that will not change, but the Regional Chairman should be cautious and advised to do the right thing.

“The Regional Chairman was in NDC, since when did he come to the NPP, and what good thing did he do to uplift the image of the party?” he questioned.

According to him party financiers, elders and others who have “sacrificed and worked have all been neglected and now treated with disrespect by the Chairman”.

Prophet Kumchacha Takes ‘One Coner’ Dance To Court

Many youths, with the zeal and fever to display their dance moves have exhibited many video recordings of themselves whiles performing the ‘one corner’ dance on various social media platforms. A few days ago, it was reported that the dance had landed in neighboring Nigeria country and is being highly patronized by many there as well.

Not withstanding this, The ‘one corner’ dance craze, which seems to have become a canker eating deep into many youths in the society seems not to go down well with some of our leaders. whiles some have expressed utmost  disgust towards the dance, others too have endorsed it saying it was just something to entertain people.

A recent video that went viral all over social media is that of some Islamic students performing the dance in class. This however, has landed them in serious trouble with the school’s authorities. Perhaps, this has triggered something in Prophet Kumchacha who has also strongly shown his disgust at the song.

Nicholas Osei, Founder and Leader of the Heaven’s Gate Ministries popularly known as Prophet Kumchacha has said he is heading to court to place an injunction on the “One Corner” song because the song is destroying lives in the country. The Preacher said he will pray the court to prevent any individual from playing the song in any public space.

Speaking to Kofi TV, the Pastor said there is the need to condemn the song before it destroys the country.

Prophet Kumchacha said he is of the believe that songs are supposed to inspire people and help change their ways but that has not been the order of the day indicating that current songs rather deteriorate morality in the country.

According to him, the ‘one corner’ song is not only destroying Ghanaian children and some adults but has also increased promiscuity among the youth of the country.

Say It Isn’t So? Yvonne Nelson Reportedly Pregnant

According to exclusive report from lindaikeji.com, Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson is expecting her first child. The reports state that she is heavily pregnant and will soon welcome her child.

This news comes after much speculation from people on whether or not she’s pregnant. Most of her friends have come out to deny the news and chalked it down to idle chatter.

However, it is interesting to note Yvonne Nelson herself has not come out to dispel the rumours as she normally does. Also, apart from the recent petition she started, she has been mostly quiet on her social media accounts. This leads us at Ghafla.com to believe that she is actually pregnant.

As at now, the father of the unborn baby is not known. This is due to the fact that we did not know that Yvonne Nelson was in a committed relationship. This brings us a feeling of déjà vu as with Nadia Buari.

Congratulations to her and her bundle of joy.

TV host, George Quaye has made some statements about the realities of the Ghana Movie industry. He stated that the profession does not pay well and that is why he quit.

He made these statements to substantiate what Shirley Frimpong-Manso’s statements that some actors and actresses live fake lifestyloes for the public.

George is widely known for playing the role of Aboagye in the hit series ‘Taxi Driver’. He is now the Public Relations Officer of Charter House.

Audit Of TV Stations By NCA Begins

The National Communications Authority (NCA), which falls under the Communications Ministry, has said it is poised to streamline the operations of all companies within the industry; and those that fall short of compliance with regulations will be sanctioned.

The (NCA) has sanctioned a total of 131 radio stations for violating certain aspects of the Electronics Communications Act (2009), Act 775. The offences included operating without a licence, and operating with an expired licence among others.

The sanctions ranged from fines to the total revocation of licences. Radio XYZ was fined GH¢4,090,000, while Atinka FM was fined GH¢14,800,000. Radio Gold and Atlantis Radio were fined GH¢61,330,000 and GH¢60,350,000 respectively. Kapital Radio in Kumasi, which has been in existence for about 20 years, had its licence revoked outright.

Officials of NCA have explained that their actions against radio stations that have violated their terms of authorization was not an act of political witch-hunting.

Addressing the press in Parliament, the Communications Minister explained the audit was conducted to ensure that some sanity prevailed in the radio space.

All television stations in the country are currently undergoing a special audit to ascertain their conformity to rules and regulations, and to ensure they adhere to professional standards, Communications Minister Ursula Owusu Ekuful has said.

“It will not be limited to only the FM radio stations; there is an ongoing audit of TV stations as well. Thankfully, they are being migrated onto the digital platform; so, any one of those stations which are currently enjoying test transmission, that does not live up to its obligations under the rules and regulations setting it up, will not be migrated onto the platform and would, by so doing, cease operations.

“I think this is the only way we can send a clear signal that we must make our laws work. It is critical to ensure that, as in every other civilised society, the rules and regulations we all agree to – ceding part of our own rights and obligations for the general good – are applied without fear or favour, or malice or ill-will, and dispassionately to everyone who may be caught,” she said in an interview.

Ghanaians Attack NewYork Times For “Distasteful” Description of President Nana Addo On Social Media

“If you want to hide something from a black man put it in the form of writing’, until now I used to believe that this saying was true about blacks but a current occurrence has made me realized that this saying, if was any moment true is now archaic.

On October 2, 2017, an article was published by the American News Site, The New York Times titled ” Obesity Was Rising As Ghanaians Embrace Fast Food. Then Came KFC” has stirred up anger among many Ghanaians who took to social media to express their anger and displeasure at a particular phrase that caught their attention.

“Like many of his countrymen, the round-faced president himself is overweight” was the particular part of the article written by Dionne Searcey and Matt Richtell on nytimes.com that has provoked many of Ghanaians.

This part of the article did not fall at the first, second or third paragraphs but is located somewhere almost getting to the concluding part and if Ghanaians and Blacks for that matter, were able to read an article that exceeds 32 paragraphs and noted something to their displeasure then as stated at the beginning of this article, one can no longer hide anything from a black man by way of putting it in writing anymore.
Below are some of the responses of some Ghanaians on social media in relation yo the NYT article.

The article sought to look at the causes of obesity and based their research on Ghana’s own franckise of  America’s Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) not only insult the president but also stated that “In Ghana, KFC isn’t just food. It’s a social status” did not go down well with many Ghanaians as they took to social media to express their displeasure and as well educate the NYT better.

Below are some of the social media comments about the article:

Classical Ghanaian Movies

All this talk of the woes of the Ghana Movie Industry made me sit down to evaluate the industry as a whole. In this world, it is acknowledged that without knowing where you are coming from; you will not be able to know where you to go.

We at Ghafla.com wanted to start a series to shed light of certain movies that changed the landscape of Ghanaian movies. Below are the first 4 movies:

Love Brewed in the African Pot: This movie was released in the 80’s and I remember watching it with my dad when I was young. I did not understand it then but I went back to rewatch it. I had the same experience and it is an unforgettable movie. This is a love story between Aba Appiah and Joe Quansah. Aba is the educated of the two, but instead of going to university, she becomes a dressmaker. She falls in love with Joe Quansah, a semi-illiterate auto mechanic. His love is less courageous than hers and his fisherman father warns him not to play with fire. Their relationship is further compounded by Aba’s father who would rather have her married to a lawyer.

I Told You So: This movie set the tone for Ghanaian movies. It was done in the local dialect and it was still able to cross barriers. It was a brilliant comedy that portrayed Ghanaian Ghanaian culture and lifestyle in a splendid manner. It was done in the 70’s and it was one of the true Ghanaian classics. This film is based on a story about a father who refuses to agree to his daughter’s marriage to a wealthy man. The story chronicles the conflict between a family in post-colonial Ghana as they struggle to choose between love and money.

Heritage Africa: This is the perfect post-colonial movie till date. It has won several awards and is a testament to how impressive it is. The story in the movie resonates deeply with anyone who watche it. The film is set in 1955 in the violent run up to Ghanaian independence, this ambitious political drama follows the conversion of conscience of the first black District Commissioner, an anglicised Cambridge man so dedicated to his duties that he refuses to attend his mortally ill son. Ansah presents a diffuse political analysis – he is at pains to distinguish both between the ‘enlightened self-interest’ of the Governor (Whitbread) and the cruder reactionary methods of sneering civil servant Snyper (Collier), and the rivalries in the ‘Association of Freedom’ led by Kwame Nkrumah. Stilted acting and dramatic over-emphasis make it hard going, but the complex pains and ironies of colonialism come over only too strongly.

Kukurantumi – Road To Accra: I watched this movie just last year. I had always wanted to watch it but unfortunately could not find anywhere to get it. This brilliant movie depicts the lives of everyday Ghanaians. The Synopsis of the film is about a truck driver makes runs between Kukurantumi (a rural town) and Accra (the capital city of Ghana) with few problems until he is forced to replace his truck. In order to raise the money to get a new vehicle, he sells some stolen watches and promises his daughter in marriage to a rich merchant. Rebelling against this fate, the daughter runs off to Accra with her boyfriend.

Join NPP And Win – Cwesi Oteng To Paa Kwesi Nduom

Award-winning Gospel artiste, Cwesi Oteng has some political advice for Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, flagbearer of Progressive People’s Party. He stated that he should run for President with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in order to win. He explained that there are two major political parties that dominate therefore in order to win one has to join either one of them.

The musician was among the entertainment personalities that campaigned for then Presidential Candidate of the NPP.  “I think that it would be so beautiful for Nduom to be president, but I wish that he’d enter NPP and break it through. If he enters NPP, he can win anything.”

He made these statements on Lexis Bill’s ‘Drive Time’ on Joy FM. The singer also added that for  female Presidential Aspirant, Akua Donkor to win elections on the ticket of her political party, Ghana Freedom Party, she would need to amass a huge number of supporters.

Having entertainers speak on politics has always been a huge bone of contention for many Ghanaians. A lot of Ghanaians think entertainers do not have a place to make comments on politics and should not even speak on it at all. Therefore, a lot of Ghanaians would feel a certain type of way about Cwesi Oteng’s statements.

My Educational Complex Is Collapsing – Kwaku Manu

Why can’t we all get along?
Acclaimed Kumawood actor, Kwaku Manu has revealed that his educational complex is collapsing. This educational complex is in his home ground in the Ashanti Region. He stated the reason for the collapse is jelousy, backbiting and jealousy.
Kwaku Manu is one of the most popular Kumawood actors, therefore it comes as a shock that his educational complex is collapsing.
The “Kweku Manu Educational Complex” was established in 2015 at Atwima Brogoyedu in the Ashanti Region. When he opened the school, he stated that he established the school to give back to society and not to necessarily to make profit. He then went ahead to to provide school uniforms for the needy students. He also slashed the prices of school fees to be paid.

However in an interview with Angel FM, Kwaku Manu stated that he was disappointed in the patronage towards his school. He also stated that the people whom he thought would support him were the same ones trying to destroying it. He added that he has not made any profit since the school was established. However, he keeps investing and gets ingratitude in return.

Ghanaian Actors Are Jobless –

The opinions on the movie industry is a never ending cycle.

Samuel Fiscian, President of the Ghana Actors’ Guild, Samuel Fiscian, has spoken up about the state of Ghanaian actors in recent times. He revealed that due to the low patronage of local movies, most actors are now out of jobs. He said the low patronage from Ghanaians to local productions has made production companies either reduce the content they make or stop production altogether.

This situation has created a ripple effect on the working actors in the country. Mr Fiscian further stated that the popularity of foreign productions on the market have contributed to the dwindling sales of local productions. Also, most of these foreign productions are shown on television

“We are challenged by the influx of foreign productions and we acknowledge the fact that the taste of the Ghanaian has changed,” he said.

He made these statement when the guild paid a courtesy call on the new Chief Executive of Media General Group (owners of TV3, 3FM, 3News, Onua FM, Connect FM, Akoma FM and APL Productions), Pearl Esua-Mensah, to congratulate her on her appointment.

Mrs Esua Mensah made her statements on the issues that were stated. She stated that the Media General Group has over the past two decades created local stars who have excelled. “There are a lot of stars whose careers started from TV3 and gave them the launch pad to really fly. So we can assure you that that our mandate still stays. We have to do Ghana; we have to portray Ghana but we have to show that Ghana can do it with the right quality and we’re willing to work with the actors to do that,” she added.

We hope Media General Group leads the charge to definitely show more local content because they were the first channels to bring foreign content to the society.

Free Chocolate For SHS Students- Nana Addo

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the president of Ghana, has made a promise to residents of Kumasi that the New Patriotic Party government will soon start a programme to offer every school child a free bar of chocolate daily.

In his speech at the World Cocoa Day celebration, Nana Addo  promised that students from basic to secondary level in Ghanaian schools would be given free chocolate bar or cocoa drinks under the school-feeding programme.

The President explained that as Cocoa is the chief agricultural export of Ghana and the country’s main cash crop and with Ghana being the second largest cocoa exporter in the world aside Ivory Coast, though consumption of cocoa products locally has not been up to the expected level he believes this programme would boost the consumption of cocoa products locally and stated that the provision of the free chocolate to all pupils would be reportedly run alongside the school feeding programme.

“It is for this reason that the Ministry of Agriculture through COCOBOD, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection through the school feeding programme, and the Ministry of Education through the Ghana Education Service, are to ensure the sustained provision of cocoa beverages and chocolates to school children from primary school to secondary level,” he said.

The Ghana Cocoa Board had earlier appealed to Ghanaians to patronize locally produced cocoa products instead of foreign ones at a media launch of the 2017 Cocoa Day in Kumasi.

Local manufacturing companies who are into the production of cocoa products have reportedly agreed to help government with the programme according to Nana Addo’s statements.

Nana Addo explained that the target for the NPP government was to “provide every Ghanaian student with a bar of chocolate or cocoa beverage each day whilst in school.”
