Insatiable Appetite For Fame And Money Is Driving Some Ghanaian Gospel Musicians To Use ‘Juju’-Ernest Acheampong

Ghanaian gospel musician, Ernest Acheampong has admitted some of his colleagues are reportedly engaging in voodoo otherwise known as juju in the local parlance to smoothen their way into stardom.

The Gospel Musician who is known for hit songs such such ‘Wo Da So Y3 Nyame’, ‘ Pagya Me Ko Soro’ among others is among the few Gospel Musicians who has been in the industry for quiet long now.

The Musician disclosed that the insatiable quest for cash and fame by some of his collegues without recourse to winning souls for Christ is what has crept into present day music giving credence to earlier assertions by others that not all gospel musicians are inspired by God.

Last year, Jak Alolome had also said that the situation is not peculiar to only gospel musicians but that those in secular music are worse off.  “It is true some gospel musicians are engaging in juju but those in secular music are also doing same”, he disclosed.

He observed that the practice is not auguring well for the music industry stating the he has over the years resolved not to indulge in such practices since it is in variance with his religious beliefs.

“I have heard some of my colleagues are into Juju but that is not the best for the industry. I am a true believing Christian and I know God is the only one who protects me and my music career and not any other god”, he emphasized.

He further revealed that some of  his colleagues in the present day visit shrines just to pull down others.

“Today, as we speak, about 70 per cent of gospel musicians visit shrines for juju for their musical careers and also to outdo other gospel artistes and this is a reality.”

He advised all and sundry, especially those who are aspiring to venture into the industry not to fall prey to such temptations.

“You hear some people making it big, don’t look at them or don’t envy them. Just pray and thank God for your situation. Those musicians you see doing very well, most of them cannot sleep because of what they do all in the name of God,” Acheampong revealed.

“There is juju, so much juju in gospel music more than hiplife and at the right time God himself will expose those involved in the practice.”

Ernest Acheampong added that  “To those people using Juju, expiry date is allocated for that spirit, when Satan gives, it looks all shinny and rosy but it defiantly has an expiry date…but when God gives you something, it’s everlasting. So the up and coming acts should learn from this”.

Ghana Will Not Be Represented At 2018 Oscars

Well, this is sad news for the Ghanaian movie indsutry.

It has been reported that Ghana will not be represented at the 2018 Oscars. This is due to the fact that the Ghana Foreign Language Committee could not nominate any of the films submitted. Professor Linus Abraham, the Chairman of the Committee, made this announcement in Accra.

The committee reported that none of the 3 films submitted met the requirements for the Foreign Language Category of the Oscars. That makes them automatically disqualified.

According to Professor Abraham, various anomalies were detected with the submission of all 3 films. He said, “and so the committee had not choice but to disqualify them, to preserve the integrity of the committee and of Ghana’s participation in the Oscars.”

Out of the three films submitted to the Committee’s Secretariat, Professor Abraham noted that one stood out, with the potential of being nominated; but it unfortunately did not meet the Academy’s release requirements. It was stipulated that any film submitted must have first been released in its country of origin, theatrically for seven consecutive days, before it’s VOD release. The film did not meet that requirement.

The submitted films also failed to use the committee’s standards of submission, which required submitting the films via film freeway and also supplying the committee with 20 DVD copies.

The Oscars have a very strict regime for submission of films. The Foreign Language Selection Committee held a workshop in Ghana in June 2017 with resource persons who took filmmakers through the submission process. Unfortunately, there was a dismal representation of active Ghanaian filmmakers at the workshop. This underscored the multiple mistakes made by the filmmakers who submitted their films.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released the list of foreign language films selected for next years Oscars. Among them, Kenya, Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Mozambique and South Africa are representing the African continent.

We hope next year will be a better year for Ghanaian filmmakers.

Mr. Lawrence  Abrokwah is facing five charges including domestic violence with emotional, verbal and psychological abuse, publication of obscene material, assault and threat of harm.

Moaning During Sex Should Be A Crime – Maurice Ampaw

Everyday something new comes up.

Famed lawyer, Maurice Ampaw has some thoughts on those who make noise during sex.

According to Ampaw, incessant loud moaning during sex is a crime which must be punished. He said the moaning infringes on the rights of others who would hear it.

“Why is it that you are having sex and I cannot sleep? In a compound house, they are having sex with you and everybody cannot sleep, you are infringing upon their rights to privacy and you are committing a crime and a wrong to them because you are committing what we call sexual nuisance,” he said.

Lawyer Ampaw made these statements on Joy FM. “Everything that makes noise, everything that makes you uncomfortable is a nuisance.”

He further explained his point, “There are some girls when they are having sex and you are passing on the streets, you will hear them moaning and screaming. The worst ones are the men, if you are a man and you are having sex too and you are talking and moaning; can’t you control yourself? You should have self-control. When animals are having sex do you hear them moaning like that?”

Maurice Ampaw recounted an experience in Koforidua in the Eastern region where he could not get sleep because of the excessive noise being made by a couple having sex at a hotel he was lodging at.

“After I had finished with a hard day’s work at 7 o’clock I checked into my room and this guy and this girl came to town to chill and rest. I was lying down before I could realize, their bed was making noise and then I woke up, I could not sleep and the girl was giving commentary.”

We do not know why this issue seems so important to him; however, we will be updating you.

Some Gospel Musicians Lack Fashion Sense – Celestine Donkor

Gospel musician, Celestine Donkor has some words for the way certain Gospel musicians dress. She said the reason many gospel musicians have come under heavy criticism for their dress sense is because they lack knowledge in fashion.
Although, the gospel music industry has evolved and changed over the years, the dressing of some of the musicians is nothing to write home about.

She made these statements in an interview with Doreen Andoh on Joy FM. She answered the question on why many female gospel musicians are constantly ridiculed on the way they dress.

According to her, “You can’t put on a night makeup at day and you can’t put on dinner wear in the day. It’s basically lack of knowledge to think you’ve dressed so wonderfully but you look funny. I will not blame those who do that because they do not know.
She added, “Most of us attained this our career path by chance. We don’t have education, we don’t have costume managers. We are not managed properly so we take our personal decision on what to wear and all that.”
Celestine however offered a solution to the ‘problem’. She said instead of insulting the musicians who dress this way, we should rather educate them on how to dress.
She furthermore stated that she always tries to dress comfortably in every situation.

Afia Schwarzenegger Inspires Girls(Females) On IGCD

Award-winning controversial comedienne, television and radio personality, Valantina Nana Agyiewaa popularly known in showbiz as Aria Schwarzenegger has sent a very motivational and heartwarming message to all females as we celebrate International Girl Child Day (IGCD)today.

Since 2012, 11 October has been marked as the International Day of the Girl. The day aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls face, while promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.

Afia Schwarzenegger who took to her official Instagram page posted a beautiful picture of herself under which she inscribed a motivational message to all females today about the myopic nature of the society in limiting a woman’s beauty to only her body and how society is quick in forgetting the 100 good things one does but forever remembers the one bad or wrong one does whether intentionally or unintentionally.

According to Afia Scwar, every lady or female’s “worth is in her brains” and not in her physical appearance because in the end her body will undergo changes as she ages but her brain(intelligence) is what will keep her going.

The comedienne whose nude pictures and and video leaks went viral on social media about a month ago went on to write that since “The society we find ourselves in has limited the value of a woman to her body, your beauty is still seen in that same body and if by accident someone invade your privacy n throw your nudity out…then to some low thinking weaklings… your life is over…”

According to her this is not the case because even though it is good to exercise ones body it is more important to exercise ones Brian’s through prayers and reading.

“Your strength is your beauty so no matter what happens…don’t let the world dictate to you what u should or shouldn’t have done”

The actress further indicated that she is well aware that the only thing most people know about her now is her supposed “sex tape” incident without caring to know or talk about the good things she has done and is still doing.

She highlighted on the fact that nobody ever talks or writes about her help and contributions to the society.

“I am sure all you ever know about me now is supposed “sex tape”,I am dead sure you never for once heared that I solicited for funds to build an orphanage while I was still living in a two bedroom rented apartment with my sons, nanny and my mum, I am sure you haven’t read anywhere that I with the help of ACHO placed up an education fund for orphans, you don’t know that I have a farm that only feeds orphans that I don’t even take a tomato home etc.

Afia further advised that the society we found ourselves in will only project what will make one look bad, what will bring one down but we should not give up because in the end, it is ones strength that will carry her through this wicked world and that all girls today should take their education seriously because ” there’s nothing as beautiful as an independent woman”

Below is Afia’s Message:

Otumfuo Cited In Money Laundering Case In UK

The Telegraph, a UK-based newspaper, has published a story that states that the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is alleged to have laundered £200,000 and $200,000 in cash.
This comes about after a bank official, Mark Arthur, lost his job because according to the Ghana International Bank, he “failed to follow anti-money laundering rules and had violated security policies as he was only insured to carry cash by armoured car up to a maximum of £250,000.”
The issue was brought to light during a tribunal hearing to determine whether the dismissal of Mr Arthur was legal.

Below is the full story published by The Telegraph:
‘The King of Ghana gave me £350,000 and I took it to the bank in taxi,’ sacked bank official claims
To a Ghanaian King, handing someone a holdall stuffed with more than £350,000 to deposit in a bank might seem nothing out of the ordinary.
Indeed, when Osei Tutu II, traditional ruler of the Kingdom of Ashanti, summoned Mark Arthur to his multimillion-pound residence in Henley-on-Thames and handed him a bag containing almost £200,000 in sterling as well as $200,000 in US currency with consecutive serial numbers, the bank official felt it inappropriate to ask too many questions.
However, the subsequent deposit of the cash at Ghana International Bank triggered a money laundering alert in the City of London and cost Mr Arthur his job.
The King, who once worked at Brent council, summoned Mr Arthur, the bank’s second most senior executive, to his home in August last year.
Mr Arthur, from New Barnet, Hertfordshire, a dual citizen of the UK and Ghana, drove to his own home with the cash and then took it in an Uber taxi to the bank’s City offices for deposit in the king’s account, he told an employment tribunal.
Osei Tutu II, the holder of a diplomatic passport, told him the cash had been withdrawn from banks in Ghana and brought to the UK, he said in his witness statement.
He had also instructed Mr Arthur to move $200,000 to an account at Standard bank in Jersey.
Mr Arthur, a member of the Ashanti tribe, the largest in Ghana, carried out the transfer within hours, the tribunal heard.
He was suspended and then sacked following the incident, after an investigation by outside accountants Grant Thornton. He is claiming wrongful dismissal, unfair dismissal and failure to protect a whistleblower.
The bank said he had failed to follow anti-money laundering rules and had violated security policies as it was only insured to carry cash by armoured car up to a maximum of £250,000.
Mr Arthur, an executive director of the bank, alleged the deposit and transfer were approved by Ghana International Bank’s chief executive, Joseph Mensah.
Mr Mensah told an outside reviewer of Mr Arthur’s dismissal he “didn’t even have the authority to sanction such a huge amount”.
Osei Tutu II is estimated to be Africa’s 10th richest monarch, with valuable goldmine and cocoa plantations and remains one of the most influential traditional figures in Ghana.
In his witness statement, Mr Arthur said he was not able to follow anti-money laundering rules when he accepted the cash because of the king’s status.
He said: “Without a policy to follow and did without wishing to offend a sovereign of my country, I found myself in a very difficult situation and one I had never been in before.
“I could not carry out the necessary due diligence by talking to His Majesty so decided it would be best to verify the deposits at the bank and to speak directly to Mr Mensah rather than disrespect His Majesty in a face-to-face meeting.”
The day after the bank accepted the cash and made the transfer to Jersey, it reported the transactions to the National Crime Agency as suspicious.
News of Mr Arthur’s suspension was subsequently passed to the City watchdogs the Prudential Regulation Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). The FCA sent inspectors into the bank who severely criticised its handling of cash, the tribunal heard.
Lawyers for Mr Arthur argued that his handling of the deposit was in line with the way the bank previously handled Osei Tutu II’s account and that he was aware that the king could travel on a diplomatic passport.
They cited a string of large cash deposits in 2013 and 2014 where the source of the funds was not properly recorded.
They included a $100,000 that a review of the king’s account said came from a fundraising event. There were no documents recording the source of that cash, however.
Colin Millar, a building society chairman drafted in by Ghana International Bank to adjudicate on Mr Arthur’s appeal against his dismissal, rejected suggestions that the £350,000 holdall was acceptable given the king’s history with the bank.
He told the tribunal the deposit and swift transfer offshore was a “classic” warning sign of money laundering.
Mr Millar told the hearing: “If you want to hide the sources of funds that are from a disreputable source then you move them around until it reaches the point where the authorities can’t trace them back to their original source. That’s a way of hiding the proceeds of crime.”
The hearing continues.

We anticipate the outcome of this hearing in order to ascertain the veracity of these claims.

Award-winning Ghalleywood actress Bervely Afaglo has advised all women not to depend entirely on their husband’s for all kinds of support especially financial ones.

According to the mother of two and wife, a woman who depends entirely on her husband or boyfriend for financial support is a ‘useless’ woman.

The beautiful actress who took to her official Instagram page to advice her fans and women stated that “Being a full time housewife is a full time suffering”
To her, a woman needs to work and earn a living in order to support her husband or boyfriend and not to be entirely dependent on her man for every financial support.

“No man wants a liability, every man wants an asset”.

Today’s modern woman will tell you that ” gone are the days when a man is solely responsible for the entire well- being of his family. Apart from the expensive nature of living these days, there are many bills to be paid aside school fees. A man therefore needs help in taking care of all those bills.

Beverly is therefore urging all women to think twice before venturing into full time housewife.

Pastor Accuses Diana Asamoah Of Stealing His Song

Rev. George Owusu Mensah, a Senior Pastor at the St. James Baptist Church in Kumasi, has accused Evangelist Diana Asamoah of stealing his song titled “Agya Ma Wo Nsa So”. Speaking in an interview on Ultimate ‘Inspiration and Gospel Chat’ hosted by Winfred Daniel Nii Adjaye, he indicated that Evangelist Diana Asamoah made the song her own and commercialized it after agreeing to pay a fee.

According to Rev Owusu Mensah, he composed the song “Agya Ma Wo Nsa So” years ago but the respected gospel musician stole the song and refused to give him any credit.

He recounted how Diana Asamoah approached him with the prospect of doing a remix of his song only for her to return later saying that the song was now public so there was no point paying him any money.

“After helping her to re-arrange the song, she recorded the song, but came back only to say the song was in the public domain and that there was no point showing gratitude or giving credit to me the composer,” he said.

“She said one pastor told her that the song was a public domain, in other words, I didn’t write the song, and that I told her a lie, maybe a thief as well,’ he narrated.

He disclosed to host Winfred Daniel Nii Adjaye, that he was not angry with Evangelist Diana Asamoah’s comment.

“I didn’t feel insulted by her comment. It didn’t break me down. She told me she has paid artistes like Prof. Kofi Abraham but she cannot pay mine, she’s comfortable like that,” he expressed.

Rev. George Owusu Mensah indicated that there are a majority of gospel artistes who have disrespected him by taking his songs for free.

He cited that he called ‘Jane and Bernice’ when they took one of his songs saying he collected some monies from them after some interventions by some pastors.

“She was apologetic, but I told her songs don’t drop from heaven, songs are given to men and sometimes the men may be alive and that she should have found out the owner of that song,” he stated.

Rev. Owusu Mensah further accused Akwasi Nyarko of taking his song without crediting him.

Evangelist Diana Asamoah and Akwasi Nyarko refused to comment on the claims when they were called on phone. He wrote ‘Se Me Te Ase’ for Rev Mrs Emmy Newman for a fee.

#PrayForGhana: A-Plus Mocks Kojo Yankson Over Gas Explosion Reportage

Controversial musician and satirist, Kwame Asare Obeng popularly known as A-Plus has taken to Facebook to air his thoughts on the report by Kojo Yankson as to what caused the Atomic Gas Explosion.

He seems to be making fun of Joy FM’s Yankson for the viral video in which he is seen to be given detailed accounts of the sequence events till the fire on Saturday night. A-Plus is not the first person to call out Kojo Yankson on his assertion.

Several people have come out to dispute Yankson’s chronological order of events. The reason is mainly because he Yankson was not there himself when the fire started; rather he went to the scene the next day to report on the aftermath. His report has been described as unprofessional and infantile.

These are Kojo Yankson’s statements:

“There was a leak during a loading exercise from one of the tanks here in this compound. Gas was pluming up into the sky, blowing up very fast and everybody in the area noticed it…Members of staff at the gas station evacuated immediately and called the authorities. Within minutes, our chichinga stand operator decided to start work. In spite of the fact that there was escaping gas, he lit a flame under his Khebab and the flame shot up into the air and connected with the gas that was gathering in the air above the heads of all the people standing around…this flame connected with it [the gas] and set the entire sky above the people at this junction ablaze.”

Below are some of A-Plus’ Facebook posts;

However, Kojo Yankson insists he is right in his a blow-by-blow account. He posits that critics of his report have a problem but unfortunately, he cannot offer solutions.

Ok. So I am wrong, the eyewitnesses are all wrong, the fire officers I spoke to, are all wrong, but you – who were sitting at home while we were on the ground, working to get you information – you are right? Ok, I understand your problem and I am not equipped to solve it. Let’s all wait for the official report. That ought to settle this once and for all. Thanks for your feedback, everyone” his Facebook comment read.

Since the official cause of the fire is not known; we would have to wait a while before one party is vindicated or not.
