Driver’s Mate With No Training Caused Fire – NPA Interim Report

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has released an interim report about the October 7 gas explosion. According to report, the explosion happened after a driver’s mate with no training in handling LPG was given the task of discharging the highly inflammable substance at a station.
However, the driver’s mate took to his heels after he failed to stop the gas from leaking at the gas station at Madina Atomic Junction in Accra.
This failure to stop the gas from leaking, allowed the gas to spread which led to the tragic explosion that has left seven dead in Ghana’s eighth gas explosion in the past three years.

Kweku Baako read the 8-page preliminary report on Newsfile on Joy News channel on Multi TV. The contents were corroborated by NPA Chief Executive Hassan Tampuli who called into the show to make a submission.
He explained that a driver with the LPG Truck Drivers and Installers Association parked the gas tanker at the Atomic Junction premises of the gas station. For reasons yet to be explained, the driver “moved away and left the exercise of discharging the gas in hands of the mate.”
After encountering challenges with the discharge, the mate whose name is undisclosed, immediately took to his heels.
Hassan Tampuli said the gas-charging truck was not among the recognised Oil Marketing Companies.
What this means is that, the gas station went against the standard operating procedure by engaging a third party without special clearance from the NPA. The revelations could fuel calls for the operators of the gas station to be sued in the wake of accusations of negligence.

Sexual Harassment In The Movie Industry Is Real – Lydia Forson

Award-winning actress, Lydia Forson has spoken about the sexual advances and power play that goes on behind the scenes in  the movie industry. She spoke about how as a young and upcoming actress, she was once accosted by a producer. She said the producer demanded to see her breasts during an audition in order to get a role.

She made these statements during an interview on BBC. She said, “Earlier in my career just once, small-time producer who asked to see my breast for a role I was auditioning for and I said no, and walked out.”

Forson’s views were sought in the wake of the sexual scandal involving Harvey Weinstein, heavyweight Hollywood producer. He faces accusations from an increasing number of actresses, younger associates and interns.

Lydia Forson said she stormed out when the producer made that demand on her body. She continued by saying that sexual harassments are common in other professions; and many women face unrequited sexual advances from men in powerful positions.

She stated, “It’s unfortunate that it’s very common but it cuts across everywhere. Women are subjected to unwanted sexual advances from men in powerful positions especially who want to take advantage of their vulnerability. Especially in Africa where there’s a lot of poverty and people are looking for jobs, they know how to feed on peoples desperation.”

Additionally, she spoke about an experience a young lady shared with her about harassment.

“Just last week, an actress walked up to me and said she’s been trying to break up into the industry for several years but every producer wants to sleep with her and they named dropped some big actresses that they slept with before giving them roles. They threaten them, blackball them in the industry if they refuse to cooperate.”

She ended by saying that the abuse in the industry has to end. However, the people who speak up about the abuse are the ones with the means to stop them.

Fake Luxury Life: Celebrities Demanded To Pay Car Loans

It seems the reports of fake stunting and luxurious lives are true.

The Micro and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) has come out to issue an ultimatum to celebrities. The loan entity has given celebrities who have refused to pay their car loans 10 days to settle the loan. It said refusal to settle would lead to their names and pictures published in the newspapers.

According to MASLOC, they have no choice in this issue than to treat the ‘celebrities’ like any other person. This is due to the fact that they have refused to pay their car loans even after several grace period given to them.

As at this moment, over 50 celebrities which include actors, actresses and musicians have defaulted in payment of car loans granted them under the previous government.

The Deputy Executive Secretary Of MASLOC, Maame Afua Akoto, was surprised at the attitude of these celebrities. She made these statements while speaking to Kasapa News. She explained that she did not understand why they would refuse to pay even with the status they have in society.

IT APPEARS THESE GHANAIAN CELEBRITIES ARE DIFFERENT WHAT WE KNOW OTHER CELEBRITIES TO DO GLOBALLY. ELSEWHERE ABROAD, NO CELEBRITY WORTH HIS SALT WILL DO SUCH A SHAMEFUL THING LIKE IT’S HAPPENING HERE IN GHANA. THESE CELEBRITIES HAVE HIGH SOCIAL STATUS AND SO WE EXPECTED THEM TO BE LAW ABIDING FOR OTHERS TO EMULATE. BEYOND MASLOC TRYING TO GET THESE DEFAULTERS TO PAY UP, WE’VE ALSO MET WITH THEIR LEADERSHIP IN A BID TO GET THESE DEFAULTERS (CELEBRITIES) TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT BUT ALL EFFORTS HAVE BEEN IN VAIN.

“THESE CELEBRITIES DON’T QUALIFY FOR OUR CAR LOAN SCHEME, SO IF THE GRACE PERIOD ELAPSES AFTER THE 10-DAY ULTIMATUM, MASLOC WILL BE LED TO APPLY BOTH LAW AND FORCE TO RETRIEVE WHAT BELONGS TO THE STATE.”
