Marijuana Legalisation Should Be Considered – GSA Boss

The Acting Executive Director of the Ghana Standards Authority, Professor Alex Dodoo has called for the legalization of marijuana in Ghana.
According to him, the economic potential of marijuana for the country was huge.
There has been increasing discussion in public circles on the tenets of legalization of marijuana in Ghana.

Prof. Dodoo call is believed to be borne out when he appeared before the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament to answer some infractions in the Audito-General’s report.

According to him, in advanced countries like the United Kingdom, United States of America (USA) marijuana use is legal.
He said “In UK, for instance, one can purchase nicely and neatly packaged marijuana from stores for both medical and social use.”
“Even though Ghana does not need the medical use of the drug, it will gain immensely from its exportation if it is legalised,” he added.
He said “A full dose of medical marijuana, if you buy it in the pharmacy, bottled and packaged, will cost close to £ 600 which is a lot of money. So my considered opinion was that the discussion and the debate about if there is a market out there for a product that we have. I don’t think we have a medical need for the use of medical marijuana in Ghana. The conditions for which it is needed do not prevail here.

“However, the export potential can be real and Ghanaians are Christians so we don’t talk about some of these things but from a medical perspective, it’s a medical product just like morphine which comes from opium. If the country can open the debate and say we have the potential to produce, it’s a natural resource, its organic, we have the potential to package it and to legally export it to raise income from countries where they need it and they are being forced to produce under artificial conditions, then I think it’s a debate worth having and I stand by that.”

“How can you live without wearing your dross? Even doctors advise women to wear cotton panties. So, I don’t understand her if she says we should not wear panties. I strongly disagree,” the presenter added.

Ghanaian, Sebastian Osmanu, Photoshopped PhD Award

This story first appeared on Pulse.com.gh

Say, you have been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you most probably know how Sebastian, a Ghanaian student in Amsterdam, made headlines after he was given 5 awards at a recent graduation of the University of Amsterdam.

It sounds like a beautiful success story.
Reportedly having grown up in a village in central Ghana, Osumanu tried to find his way up in the academic world. Something that he could not do as in 2007 he was rejected by the University of Ghana.
The University of Cape Coast, however, sees his potential, where he is successful in his economics study. He is even named the best student of the university.
He is also a winner of the Erasmus Mundus Nobel Economics Prize in 2014. The organization of the price would even call him an example of what the African economy needs.

However, investigations by Pulse.com.gh have revealed that Sebastian Roy Osumanu DID NOT win any such laurels at the University of Amsterdam.
We contacted the University of Amsterdam Press Office on suspicions that the story as reported by many media houses was not accurate.
The officials of the university outrightly told Pulse.com.gh that they had no records of the student by the name, Sebastian Osumanu.
They subsequently revealed to Pulse that there was no such incident where a student swept that many awards in a single graduation ceremony.
In response to our query on how such pictures used to corroborate Sebastian Osumanu’s “feat”, the official replied, “There are photoshopped”.
That single answer confirmed our suspicions and opened our eye to the truth that was always lying in front of us.
The photos which have been used by almost all media houses to accompany the story of Sebastian Osumanu were indeed photoshopped.

A quick search on Google revealed that the image is indeed from the Doctoral Degree Ceremony from the 2015 Commencement of the University of Rochester.

The picture which was clearly edited to superimpose head of Sebastian Roy Osumanu on Ralph Locke, Professor of Musicology at the university.

The original picture showed President Joel Seligman presenting Professor Ralph Locke (right) with the University Award for Lifetime Achievement in Graduate Education.

In another report, UVA states that the academic year had not yet begun on September 1. They also revealed that PhD students also do not wear a gown during their graduation ceremonies.

Also, the prize he said he won in 2014 is unthinkable.

Even though the Erasmus Mundus exists, the Nobel Prize is not awarded by the organization.

Again, Osumanu did not get a mention on the success stories pages of any of these institutions save the home page of the University of Cape Coast.

He is mentioned in the spotlight section on the university’s website alongside supposed success stories of the institution.
Pulse.com.gh reached out to Sebastian via the official World Bank Group email address listed on his social media.

However, we got a response saying that the email address listed does not exist.
It would look like the story of Sebastian Osumanu is actually no better than that of legendary Ghanaian trickster, Fauster Atta Mensah who tried to lie to Ghanaians that he had won a Nobel Peace Prize among other laurels.

Self-acclaimed king of Dance hall music in Ghana, Charles Nii Armah Mensah better known for the stage name Shatta Wale has given some reasons why he has not dropped another song after his hit songs “Ayoo”, “Forgetti” and “Taking Over”.

In a Facebook post on his wall, the musician indicated that he was slow in dropping another viral song because he was waiting on his other colleagues in the music industry to also drop songs that can make headlines.

The “Forgetti” hit maker captioned his post, “The reason I have not dropped any song is that I am still waiting to see what they can do as they claim but hey ….I don’t do this myself cuz it’s my GOD that does this …He always puts a new song in my mouth…seek and you shall find him..#THEMAKER OF ALL THINGS.

UTAG to strike nationwide in solidarity with UEW

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has hinted of a nationwide strike from Monday, 18 September 2017 in solidarity with their colleagues at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).
The strike is to ensure that the matter which resulted in a strike action by lecturers on that campus is addressed.
Lecturers of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) have since July this year laid down their tools after a Winneba High Court ordered the Vice Chancellor and the Chief Finance Officer to hand over to the Pro-Vice Chancellor.
The two were asked to step aside as per a suit filed by Kofi Kwayera.
The suit was seeking a dissolution of the University’s Governing Council and, as such, rendering the positions of Vice Chancellor and Chief Finance Officer vacant.

The UEW branch of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has since indicated that it cannot offer services per the court order.
The lecturers say they are now in a state of confusion following the ruling.
The local president of UTAG at the UEW, Dr Samuel Bekoe is hoping that a nationwide strike by UTAG in support of the lecturers will find an amicable solution to the issues.
“We are on contract to teach within a certain environment and if the environment in which we are to perform our function as employees of the university is not conducive then it will not be effective for us to do our work and so that is exactly the situation we find ourselves. Currently we are not in a good environment to do our work effectively. So for the students who will suffer, if they have any concerns they should address it to the university because the university gave them admission and promised to give them tuition.
“We are staying out of the lecture room until two of the [suspended] officers are brought back and also, hands stay off completely from our private fund and investment.
“Yesterday, we [UTAG] had a national executive committee meeting and the decision we took there was that UEW UTAG should continue with the current strike and then on Monday, UEW will be joined by all other public universities in Ghana. So from Monday it’s going to be a total national strike,” he told Accra-based Class FM.

Actress Who Went Seven Years Without ‘Dross’ Launches Yeast Infection Campaign

Ghanaian actress Blanche Worae wants ladies not to wear underwear. According to the actress this will prevent ladies from catching yeast infections if they go without pant. The actress who claims she last wore a panty seven years ago, argues this will ensure ladies stay healthy.

Speaking at a short ceremony to outdoor the Blanch Foundation’s ‘Operation Remove Your Dross’ crusade, the actress disclosed that the female sex organ is a sensitive part of the body, which needs a breathing space, but ladies deprive it of this chance hence the campaign.

She noted that her campaign will encourage ladies 18 years and above not to wear panties. She says this will prevent the spread of yeast in the female organ. “I Blanche Worae ( Baby Blanche) and my foundation can say on authority without fear a lady without panties can leave a healthier life. So am entreating all Ghanaian ladies to join me in going pantiless for healthy life.”

Meanwhile, according to a family Physician, Dr Grace Obon, “too much moist in the female organ area can lead to vaginal yeast infection, most commonly due to the fungus candida albicans which can be detrimental to the hygienic sustenance of the female organ.”
