Former Ogopa Deejays’ Producer’s Official Response To Artist luring Allegations.
Competition is the name of the game, and often times when someone makes forays into a field that boasts of mainstays, feathers are ruffled.
That was the case recently when an ‘ensuing’ battle’ was ‘played out’ on our web pages after Jeff wrote that two former Ogopa deejays’ employees were using their former employers’ brand to make in roads into the market.
The two, Banda and Phillip Makanda (Philo) were mentioned, and Philo not only vehemently denied the charges, he emailed a statement to that effect. I have shared it verbatim below.
‘Rumors that we were using ogopa deejays logo to attract business opportunities is a fallacy. Main switch Group Limited being an events company through its proprietors has invested heavily in Concert equipment. And with its directors, affiliates and other industry stakeholders, aims to grow the live sound, music and entertainment in kenya to greater heights. It organized its own concerts dubbed Tetemeka concerts which were done in partnership with Ogopa deejays last year. Main switch has also supplied concert equipment for major concerts including the pamoja peace concerts organized by Emmy kosgey and Daddy Owen.”
Are we still together thus far? The email continues to say, ” There are also alleged rumors that Main Switch is luring artistes to come record at its newly built studios purporting to be ogopa deejays. In response,, Phil being a renowned music producer formerly at Ogopa deejays, felt it was in the interest of his personal ambition to pursue music production months after he left ogopa deejays late last year. “I left Ogopa in good faith to pursue personal interests and concentrate fully on Main Switch. I am not in direct competition with Ogopa. I value the time that I served Ogopa deejays in my capacity as a producer and I wish them all the best.”
He is currently working with several artistes and has recently produced a major collaboration between frasha -(punit) and Wyre. Other artistes currently working with him, include Gospel artiste Ringtone, Canibal, Syd, and renowned businessman/artiste Jaguar just to name a few, all of whom are free lance artistes not signed to Ogopa Deejays. He welcomes all artistes to his recording studios “It would benefit the entertainment industry at large if talented Kenyan artistes could live comfortably off their music.” Main switch exists as an independent company and is not affiliated to Ogopa deejays.
Banda is not a music producer as alleged by some reporters but a renowned talent and events manager. He is among the longest serving talent managers in the kenyan entertainment industry and has managed the likes of chameleone, namelss, redsan, kleptomaniax, longombas and is currently managing Ogopa artistes including popular female singer Avril. No official communication has been made to the effect of his departure from Ogopa.
Main Switch is a registered limited company in kenya registered duly under the kenya company act. Its logos and trademarks are registered under the Main Switch Group limited.’
