Forget City Hall; There Are Ghost Mps In Parliament Earning Over 500k a Year
The Kenyan MP keeps on proving that he/she is a debased creature stripped of all inhibition and shame having no problem at all in finding new ways to steal from public coffers.
Well, recently, the Anti-graft commission exposed their dealings revealing some tactics that would make the guys at City Hall look like saints. While you may have heard about ghost workers elsewhere, you have not heard of ghost MPs at least until now.
Apparently, there are MPs who are still earning a salary despite having been out of parliament in the last elections for over 20 months. Whether it is them or someone else pocketing the cash is not yet established.
There are also a couple of other tricks. First chairmen of parliamentary committees, despite taking home a self assigned 150k responsibility allowance every month, they still filed to claim sitting allowances of 10,000 per sitting.
When abroad, the MPs still claim mileage allowances for vising their constituency and the best of it all is some Mps sign on the behalf of their colleagues so that they can collect their cash. Such habits have seen the blow up of the parliamentary budget but the people involved are hardly baffled as is their character.
