Film About Tourist’s Horrific Ordeal in Kenya Set to Begin Shooting

A film we reported about last year, Mzungu, has already set the production date after raising the $40,000 (plus $900) that it needed through its Kickstarter page.

The feature film will explore an American traveler’s unexpected nightmare while vacationing in Africa. Olu Odebunmi will make his directorial debut on Mzungu, which was written by Tolu Awosika (The Fourth Kind) and Olatunde Osunsanmi (The Cavern). The synopsis for the film reads:

Mzungu is a scripted feature film that explores an American traveler’s unexpected nightmare while vacationing in Africa. Inspired by actual events, the story chronicles Jesse Bloom, a charming, young man who wakes up after a night of hard partying and is arrested for a grisly murder. Suddenly thrust into the underbelly of Kenyan society, he is forced to contend with the kinds of people that would normally go unseen by an outsider (a tourist). The film honestly examines our perceptions of good and evil while delivering an enthralling and taut thriller.

The film is set to begin shooting in Kenya this March and release in December.
