Yes you read that right. Mr. Mohamed Ayub, a teacher in Eastleigh High School is the only African among the nominees for the Global Teachers Prize which recognizes the teachers who have made outstanding contribution to their profession.

His exemplary work in countering radicalization among the youth and the general community along with projects in poverty eradication as well as stopping environmental pollution have seen the religious teacher make it to the finalists of the award.

The Global Teachers Prize was founded in 2014 and seeks to increase the stature of teaching. The Top 10 finalists were announced form a final 50 yesterday by celebrated scientist Stephen Hawking. Here is the announcement along with his feature;
