Do You Think Radio Presenters Are ‘Celebrities’? We Ask Double O
Now Olivia Otieno is back in the country and it looks like she’s cut out quite the niche for herself. What we want to know is what she’s up to now and exactly what’s her inspiration each day she gets to go what she does.
Also, do you think radio presenters are worthy of the title ‘celebrities’? Here’s what Olivia thought about it:
Ghafla!: You are now the Head of Radio at One FM. Kudos! What has been the experience so far as head of radio in an urban ‘hippy’ station? Is it what you have always wanted?
Double O: I love working with young creative superstars. It’s a very positive, vibrant and spontaneous environment. I am thriving and having just launched 91.5 HITS I’m on top of the world.
Ghafla!: There has always been the never ending argument that radio personalities do not qualify to be called celebrities? What’s your take on that?
Double O: Having met Jennifer Lopez, Morgan Freeman and Ludacris I don’t consider myself a celebrity. It’s a title people have to give you. It’s hella lame when you go around giving yourself a title.
Ghafla!: Who are your mentors and role models in the radio scene both locally and abroad?
Double O: My role model locally was Zane Virjee. The biggest compliment I ever received was having my former boss compare me to her. I also have a lot of respect for people who’ve been able to keep it real forever like Rick Dees. He crosses boarders with his content and humour and is as relevant in Kenya as he is in the other countries where his show is syndicated.
